Book Direct Foreign Investment

Download or read book Direct Foreign Investment written by Kyoshi Kojima and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Direct foreign investment and the activities of multinational corporations are new dynamic elements in the international economy. This book identifies, theoretically and practically, a Japanese model of multinational business operations which has characteristics differing from the American or "anti-trade oriented" type, and casts light on important policy implications concerning direct foreign investment and multinational corporations. By developing a macroeconomic approach to direct foreign investment, instead of the prevalent explanation from the viewpoint of business administration and industrial organisation, this study adds to current knowledge of the multinational corporation. It endeavours to bridge the gap of separated treatments between international trade and foreign investment, and presents an integrated theory from the viewpoint of a dynamic reorganisation in the international division of labour. The book also includes two introductory surveys on the survey of international division of labour and foreign investment.

Book Japanese Foreign Direct Investment and Regional Trade

Download or read book Japanese Foreign Direct Investment and Regional Trade written by Tamim A. Bayoumi and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been considerable debate in Japan about the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) outflows, largely focused on whether the economy is "hollowing out." The surge in outward Japanese FDI over the last decade, together with the fact that FDI outflows outweigh corresponding inflows by an order of magnitude, has resulted in a rapid net movement of Japanese productive capacity abroad. With Japanese manufacturing firms losing competitiveness in the production of relatively labor-intensive goods, there is concern that the rise in domestic production of capital and technology-intensive goods will not be sufficient to absorb the slack, thereby eroding the manufacturing base of the Japanese economy and hurting domestic employment.2
