Book Ethnoepidemiology on Cancer

Download or read book Ethnoepidemiology on Cancer written by Kajima and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-12-27 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethnoepidemiology, a new area of study in the field of cancer prevention and treatment, considers characteristic behavior patterns and physical and cultural factors that may be associated with some types of cancers. This exciting new field, which brings aspects of epidemiology, ethnology, ecology, virology, immunology, and molecular biology together in search of global cancer patterns, was the subject of a recent symposium of the Japanese Cancer Association. This book reports and expands upon the topics discussed at the symposium.

Book Cancer Mortality and Morbidity StatisticsJapan and the World 1993

Download or read book Cancer Mortality and Morbidity StatisticsJapan and the World 1993 written by Tominaga and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-06-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cancer statistics are useful for identifying the magnitude of cancer problems in populations and to evaluate the effects of cancer control measures. Analyses of cancer statistics often provide etiological clues and suggest methods for countermeasures for cancer prevention. This book presents detailed cancer mortality statistics and features many illustrations designed to help researchers better understand trends in cancer statistics. It gives cancer mortality data in Japan through 1990 and cancer incidence data from 1987-1989.

Book Regulation of Human Cancer by Cytokines

Book Cancer Treatment and Survival Site Specific Registries in Japan

Download or read book Cancer Treatment and Survival Site Specific Registries in Japan written by Watanabe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-11-09 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Japan, the diagnosis and effects of treatment of cancer patients is tracked and evaluated through a registry of the patients. Rather than a demographic or population-based tracking, the Japanese medical community has developed a number of site-specific cancer registries. The registries are administered by the research group or association of medical specialists for the site-specific area. Their promotion of the registries has resulted in national improvements in the diagnosis, surgical techniques, and treatments for cancer. This monograph provides, from each site-specific registration committee, a description, history, number of patients and their clinical characteristics, survival rates by TNM stage, and their time trends in relation to the development of diagnostic methods and elaboration of new treatment. Through greater knowledge has come greater understanding for the medical community of the current diagnostic and therapeutic results for many Japanese cancer patients.

Book Chemical Induction of Cancer

Download or read book Chemical Induction of Cancer written by Joseph C. Arcos and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Induction of Cancer: Structural Bases and Biological Mechanisms Volume IIB deals with the organic and biochemical principles behind cancer. This volume includes Part III of the work, which covers structure-activity relationships of chemical carcinogens, the effect of chemical reactivity, molecular geometry, and metabolism on carcinogenic activity. Under this is Chapter 5, which tackles conjugated aromatic systems. The text is recommended for doctors, organic chemists, and biochemists with an advanced knowledge in biochemistry and organic chemistry and would like to know more the biochemical processes of cancer.

Book Unfiltered

    Book Details:
  • Author : Associate Director Eric Feldman
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 2004-08-15
  • ISBN : 9780674036789
  • Pages : 416 pages

Download or read book Unfiltered written by Associate Director Eric Feldman and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2004-08-15 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tobacco, among the most popular consumer products of the twentieth century, is under attack. Once a behavior that knew no social bounds, cigarette smoking has been transformed into an activity that reflects sharp differences in social status. Unfiltered tells the story of how anti-smoking advocates, public health professionals, bureaucrats, and tobacco corporations have clashed over smoking regulation. The nations discussed in this book--Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States--restrict tobacco advertising, tax tobacco products, and limit where smoking is permitted. Each is also struggling to shape a tobacco policy that ensures corporate accountability, protects individual liberty, and asserts the state's public health power. Unfiltered offers a comparative perspective on legal, political, and social conflicts over tobacco control. The book makes a unique contribution to our understanding of how scientific evidence, global health advocacy, individual risk assessments, and governmental interests intersect in the crafting of tobacco policy. It features national case studies and cross-cultural essays by experts in health policy, law, political science, history, and sociology. The lessons in Unfiltered are crucial to all who seek to understand and influence tobacco policy and reduce tobacco-related mortality worldwide.

Book Development and Demographic Change in Taiwan

Download or read book Development and Demographic Change in Taiwan written by Roger Mark Selya and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and analyzes the demographic changes that took place in Taiwan between 1945 and 1995. It uses an interdisciplinary methodology so that different approaches to demographic change can be compared and contrasted. It attempts to evaluate Taiwan''s experience so that lessons for the Third World can be extracted. The content and presentation of the material are deliberately designed to replicate the 1954 work of Barclay, Demographic Change and Colonial Development in Taiwan. As such the book seeks to provide the reasons that economic development without demographic change took place under the Japanese while development with demographic change took place under the Chinese. The volume is richly illustrated with some 82 original maps and graphs.

Book Mutagenic Effects of Environmental Contaminants

Download or read book Mutagenic Effects of Environmental Contaminants written by H.E. Sutton and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mutagenic Effects of Environmental Contaminants investigates the mutagenic consequences of environmental contaminants, such as pesticides, industrials, food additives, drugs, and biologicals, as well as the possible relationships between mutagenesis and carcinogenesis. It describes the monitoring of chemical mutagens in the environment and the ways that genetic mutations cause disease in humans. Organized into 14 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the current burden of human genetic disease and the biochemical mechanisms of mutation. It then discusses practical and feasible methods that use a variety of organisms to screen potential mutagenic agents, increased mutation rates in human populations, mutagens that are currently used commercially, and the interrelationships between mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, and teratogenicity. The reader is also introduced to genetic toxicology, detection of chemically induced mutations in experimental animals, and chromosome and somatic mutations in humans. This book is a valuable resource for scientists, policymakers, and administrators of environmental programs.
