Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For simplicity the contents of this Pocket Book are divided into the five most widely used categories -- manned, interplanetary, scientific and applications, plus launch vehicles. The section on manned spacecraft includes all types of craft ever flown because all are so familiar that even the earliest are still in the public domain. Likewise, a certain historical element exists among the interplanetary spacecraft selection by virtue of the distinctiveness of each step in Man's reaching out from his planet. Among the launch vehicles, too, are a few defunct but celebrated programmes. Soviet launchers are designated according to Charles S. Sheldon's alphabetical/numerical system plus available Russian names. New Nasa-devised designators are also quoted in some cases." --Introduction, page [8].

Download or read book I LL SEE YOU IN TWENTY YEARS written by GLENN G. TUCKER and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-04-17 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People have dreamed of returning to their youth to correct their errors and naiveté. Dr. Frank Dodd acquired that chance but for a different reason. He and his wife, Dr. Beverly Dodd, are retired professors from a small north Florida College. They had just started enjoying retirement when they found Beverly had inoperable cancer and would soon die. Frank bemoaned the fact he hadn’t insisted on Beverly seeing a doctor a year earlier when she could have been cured. While in a chat room two fellow scientists heard Frank discuss his regrets at not getting his wife help in time and how he wished he could go back in time to court and marry her again, only this time get her to the doctors in time to be cured. The two scientists have been doing experiments in time travel and knowledge transfer between brains. Frank agreed to be used as a guinea pig to be sent back to the time of his youth and to implant his knowledge into himself as a boy. He arrives in 1941 with computers and other modern equipment to sell to the government and industry and invest the proceeds for the benefit of all three while living his life over, striving to have the same experiences and doing the same things from his former youth, but this time avoiding the mistakes of his former life. The dilemma occurs when he falls in love with a woman he meets in this new life. Should he remain single and wait for 15 years to meet and court his wife again or marry the one he falls in love with during his present time.
Download or read book Strike Warfare in the 21st Century written by Dale E Knutsen and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2012-05-15 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strike warfare is a term that is rarely used in the popular media even though reports of conflicts often describe its application or effects. Those brief snippets of information seldom provide a complete picture of what is happening at the time, and they almost never explain the operational or technical background that influences how such actions occur. This leaves the average reader or viewer with an information void, a gap in understanding. This book is intended to fill that gap. It does so in a logical and methodical fashion, building the picture piece by piece using easily understandable language. It begins with a discussion of the more newsworthy side of the subject, strike warfare operations. All of the key elements are addressed: targets, defenses, resources, and the several steps required to prosecute an attack. The book’s goal is to eliminate the uncertainty, the mystery and the outright fiction that sometimes exists in popular versions of the story. The second half of the book deals with an even less understood part of the subject, the development of strike weapons. The average citizen may occasionally hear of cost overruns, development test failures or some other negative aspect of military development programs, but there is hardly any background information available to the American taxpayer on how such programs function in general. Again, the book aims to correct a deficiency with respect to an accurate account of how strike weapons are actually developed. The entire development and life cycle is described, step by step, at the summary level. The author then closes with some thoughts about lessons learned and trends for the future. This is recommended reading for anyone with an interest in or a connection with strike warfare or strike weapons development. It should prove helpful to military or civilian newcomers to the field, members of the news media, and legislators or members of their staff dealing with military matters. But first and foremost, it was written to provide the average American taxpayer a better understanding of an important and powerful military capability."
