Download or read book Gender and Colonialism written by Lorena Rizzo and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2012-12-29 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with colonialism on a Namibian periphery and considers both the German colonial period as well as South African rule in the country. The marginality of the Kaoko region within this colonial topography of power is analysed as a dynamic and fractured feature where power relations and constellations remained highly contested. The dynamics of gender within a regional society constituted of men and women, African and European, receive special attention within frameworks engaging with colonial photography, oral histories and gendered visions.
Download or read book Historical Bibliography as an Essential Source for Historiography written by Bernadette Cunningham and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together papers presented at the Fifth International Conference of the European Historical Bibliographies Project, held in Prague on November 7 - 8, 2013, under the auspices of the Department of Historical Bibliography of the Institute of History of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic. The conference attracted bibliographers, historians and librarians from Denmark, France, Ireland, Lithuania, Germany, Switzerland and from a number of Czech institutions and libraries, who gathered to discuss a wide range of topics. The main theme of the conference was the significance of historical bibliography for historical science. Given the diversity of professional focus among the conference participants, this topic was approached and examined from a variety of viewpoints. The most important outcomes of these meetings were, firstly, explaining the way individual participating organisations dealt with historical bibliography, and, secondly, providing a comparison of different methodological and technological approaches for processing specialized bibliographies in various European countries. This book introduces the wider public to the current shape and prospects of historical bibliography projects across a range of European countries. Obviously, such projects must reflect the needs of their users, which mainly comprise historians and librarians. The ongoing development of historical bibliography does not only involve a technical challenge, but also a methodological one, as well as a societal one when interpreted in a broader context. Mutual communication helps form the future direction of historical bibliography, which will undoubtedly face many new tasks and challenges.

Download or read book Taking on Technocracy written by Dolores L. Augustine and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2018-05-22 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The German abandonment of nuclear power represents one of the most successful popular revolts against technocratic thinking in modern times—the triumph of a dynamic social movement, encompassing a broad swath of West Germans as well as East German dissident circles, over political, economic, and scientific elites. Taking on Technocracy gives a brisk account of this dramatic historical moment, showing how the popularization of scientific knowledge fostered new understandings of technological risk. Combining analyses of social history, popular culture, social movement theory, and histories of science and technology, it offers a compelling narrative of a key episode in the recent history of popular resistance.
Download or read book Bilanzen Steuern der Limited private company limited by shares in Deutschland written by John Cleary and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book The Industrial Revolution and Work in Nineteenth Century Europe written by Lenard R. Berlanstein and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Industrial Revolution is a central concept in conventional understandings of the modern world, and as such is a core topic on many history courses. It is therefore difficult for students to see it as anything other than an objective description of a crucial turning-point, yet a generation of social and labour history has revealed the inadequacies of the Industrial Revolution as a way of conceptualizing economic change. This book provides students with access to recent upheavals in scholarly debate by bringing a selection of previously published articles, by leading scholars and teachers, together in one volume, accompanied by explanatory notes. The editor's introduction also provides a synthesis and overview of the topic. As the revision of historical thought is a continual process, this volume seeks to bring the reinterpretation of such debates as working-class formation up to the present by introducing post-structuralist and feminist perspectives.

Download or read book Religion in Ephesos Reconsidered written by Daniel Schowalter and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-10-14 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion in Ephesos Reconsidered provides a detailed overview of the current state of research on the most important Ephesian projects offering evidence for religious activity during the Roman period. Ranging from huge temple complexes to hand-held figurines, this book surveys a broad scope of materials. Careful reading of texts and inscriptions is combined with cutting-edge archaeological and architectural analysis to illustrate how the ancient people of Ephesos worshipped both the traditional deities and the new gods that came into their purview. Overall, the volume questions traditional understandings of material culture in Ephesos, and demonstrates that the views of the city and its inhabitants on religion were more complex and diverse than has been previously assumed.
