Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By John R. Rice I cannot introduce Dr. J. Frank Norris, but I gladly say a word about his sermons, “Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.” A mighty preacher of a mighty gospel, bold defender of the faith, campaigner for righteousness, seeker for sinners and my beloved friend and brother that he is, I am delighted that you can have his message in print. Here is great preaching! Whether it is Dr. Norris at his greatest, I cannot say, when I remember his sermons on “The Prodigal Son,” on “Going to the Well,” or “And When the Morning Was Come,” or those on the eighth of Romans, or “Elijah at Mt. Carmel,” or the Twenty-third Psalm. Those who have read his seven hundred printed sermons or heard him in his own pulpit and in great revivals this almost a quarter of a century can best say. But here is great preaching, preaching to the heart as well as the head. Though my mind marveled at the riches from which Dr. Norris drew when I heard these sermons and then read them, and then again, my poor hungry heart was fed.

Book God s Rascal

Download or read book God s Rascal written by Barry Hankins and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2015-01-13 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colorful and outrageous, influential yet despicable, J. Frank Norris was a preacher, newspaper publisher, political activist, and all-around subject of controversy. One of the most despised men in traditional Southern Baptist circles, he was also the man most responsible for bringing hard-edged fundamentalism to the South. Barry Hankins traces Norris, the "Texas Cyclone," from his boyhood in small-town Texas to his death in 1952. Despite scandals, Norris was a man of considerable public influence who traveled the owrkd, corresponded with congressmen, and attended president's Hoover's inaguration at Hoover's invitation. Through his preaching career he battled anyone and everyone he saw as part of the leftist conspiracy to foist liberalism and immorality on America. This account reveals a remarkable man who helped shape the current American religious landscape.

Book Practical Lectures on Romans

Download or read book Practical Lectures on Romans written by J. Frank Norris and published by Solid Christian Books. This book was released on 2016-05-10 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the climax of God’s revelation of His will to a lost world, and given through the greatest mind of all times. What a blessing it has been to my soul, these studies, made on our tour clear around the world. I studied it night and day. It was my meditation on land and sea. Whether in the snow-capped majestic Alps or in the desert sands of Arabia, whether in the storms of the Atlantic, or in the quiet calm of the “Pacific, my soul fairly rejoiced in this the greatest, the highest mountain peak of divine revelation. Often I would bow my head in humiliation, confess my sins, that I would ever complain or hesitate one second’s time to proclaim the gospel of the Son of God. I could wish I could roll back the hands of time and begin once more the simple ministry of an earnest country preacher.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1920s saw one of the most striking revolutions in manners and morals to have marked North American society, affecting almost every aspect of life, from dress and drink to sex and salvation. Protestant Christianity was being torn apart by a heated controversy between traditionalists and the modernists, as they sought to determine how much their beliefs and practices should be altered by scientific study and more secular attitudes. Out of the controversy arose the Fundamentalist movement, which has become a powerful force in twentieth-century America. During this decade, hundreds (and perhaps thousands) of young girl preachers, some not even school age, joined the conservative Christian cause, proclaiming traditional values and condemning modern experiments with the new morality. Some of the girls drew crowds into the thousands. But the stage these girls gained went far beyond the revivalist platform. The girl evangelist phenomenon was recognized in the wider society as well, and the contrast to the flapper worked well for the press and the public. Girl evangelists stood out as the counter-type of the flapper, who had come to define the modern girl. The striking contrast these girls offered to the racy flapper and to modern culture generally made girl evangelists a convenient and effective tool for conservative and revivalist Christianity, a tool which was used by their adherents in the clash of cultures that marked the 1920s.

Book The Gospel According to Isaiah

Download or read book The Gospel According to Isaiah written by Timothy J.E. Cross and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2018-08-19 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Martin Luther once said that Isaiah 53 ‘ought to be written on parchment of gold and lettered in diamonds.’ If you read this book you will see why! Isaiah 53 is one of the most amazing chapters in the whole Bible. Although written some 800 years BC, it actually contains one of the clearest views of the Person and Work of Christ in all of the Scriptures. This ancient Old Testament prophecy gives a distilled New Testament theology. Isaiah 53 directs us to the Cross of Christ and the Christ of the Cross. Its central theme is the sacrificial, substitutionary and saving death of the Lord Jesus Christ at Calvary, and the infinite blessings and benefits which accrue to the believer from this. Isaiah is justly known as ‘the evangelical prophet’, and Isaiah 53 encapsulates his ‘evangel’. Isaiah 53 is THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ISAIAH. Grasp the message of this book and you will be blessed indeed, and eternally rich with ‘the unsearchable riches of Christ’ – Great Riches At Christ’s Expense.

Book J Frank Norris

Download or read book J Frank Norris written by Michael E. Schepis and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "J. Frank Norris was one of the most fascinating and controversial figures in the first half of the twentieth century. This biography highlights some of the thousands of words and deeds of the man referred to as "The Texas Tornado", "The Fighting Parson", and most often simply "The Preacher." He is most well-known as the pastor of the first two mega churches in America. He survived several attempts on his life, was tried in court for perjury, arson, and murder, and spoke to millions in person and by radio. He possessed a rare combination of superior charisma, intellect, ability as a speaker, persuasive power, and leader. He was a pastor, evangelist, educator, author, publisher, world traveler, and as much as anything else he was a sensationalist. Many of his opponents hated or feared him. His friends admired and revered him. J. Frank Norris takes us from early in his career to the deepest tragedy and sorrow, and on to the triumph of becoming the friend of some of the most powerful men of his time. Throughout his life, he courageously opposed anti-Semitism and took up the cause of securing a homeland for the Jews in Palestine after World War II. His views on the Palestinian question were sought by President Truman. "The Preacher" answered the president in a document outlining the reasons for America to support a sovereign homeland state in Palestine for the Jews."--Inside jacket flap.

Book Innocent as a Lamb Christ s Atonement in Isaiah 53

Download or read book Innocent as a Lamb Christ s Atonement in Isaiah 53 written by Robert D. Norman and published by North Star Ministry Press LLC. This book was released on 2019-12-11 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bruised for Our Iniquities In his intriguing Bible biography, Abraham: Faith's Eye to the Future, Robert Norman writes that "Isaac eventually realized what would happen, and he was willing to go to his death . . .. Isaac could have overpowered his father, but he did not." We know that the boy who was substituted for a lamb was spared. However, the truly innocent Lamb, Jesus Christ, not only submitted to his Father's will, he was stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. As Christians we call this the substitutionary or vicarious atonement for sin by the shed blood. Without this essential truth, the entire edifice of Christianity collapses. There is absolutely nothing left. The sheep, lost forever. That said, in six chapters of practical meditations on Isaiah's prophecy, Norman shows us how and why the silence and slaughter of the Lamb is essential to the believer's only comfort in life and in death. The urgency of the message resounds throughout with an unwincing call to faith for those who have not yet truly heard the voice of the Good Shepherd. Robert D. Norman was born in Welwyn, Garden City, England, and his family later moved to Inverness, Scotland. After studies at the Highland Theological College UHI, he is sharing the Good News of the Cross on the mission field in Dorohoi, Romania.

Norris was indicted for murder and, if convicted, would be executed in the state of Texas' electric chair. This is the story of his captivating case.
