Book Integral Equations and Iteration Methods in Electromagnetic Scattering

Download or read book Integral Equations and Iteration Methods in Electromagnetic Scattering written by A. B. Samokhin and published by VSP. This book was released on 2001 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of scattering of electromagnetic waves in inhomogeneous three-dimensional bounded media is extremely important from both theoretical and practical viewpoints, and constitutes the core family of problems in electromagnetics. In this monograph the following fundamental topics relating to these problems are considered: mathematical problems and methods related to the scattering of electromagnetic waves by inhomogeneous three-dimensional anisotropic bodies and their reduction to volume singular integral equations; iteration techniques for solving linear operator equations; and efficient methods for solving volume integral equations that employ iteration procedures. Nowadays, volume singular integral equations are widely used as an efficient tool of numerical solution to the problems of complicated three-dimensional structures. Analysis of integral equations and corresponding scattering problems, including nonclassical ones, is performed in the general formulation. The necessary and sufficient conditions that provide fulfilment of the Noether property of operators and sufficient conditions for the Fredholm property are obtained. Existence and uniqueness theorems for scattering problems considered in both classical and nonclassical settings are proved. Much attention is given to iteration techniques and development of corresponding computational algorithms. This monograph will be of interest to researchers in electromagnetics, integral equations, iteration methods and numerical analysis both in academia and industry.

Book Fast Multipole Methods for the Helmholtz Equation in Three Dimensions

Download or read book Fast Multipole Methods for the Helmholtz Equation in Three Dimensions written by Nail A Gumerov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-01-27 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume in the Elsevier Series in Electromagnetism presents a detailed, in-depth and self-contained treatment of the Fast Multipole Method and its applications to the solution of the Helmholtz equation in three dimensions. The Fast Multipole Method was pioneered by Rokhlin and Greengard in 1987 and has enjoyed a dramatic development and recognition during the past two decades. This method has been described as one of the best 10 algorithms of the 20th century. Thus, it is becoming increasingly important to give a detailed exposition of the Fast Multipole Method that will be accessible to a broad audience of researchers. This is exactly what the authors of this book have accomplished. For this reason, it will be a valuable reference for a broad audience of engineers, physicists and applied mathematicians. The Only book that provides comprehensive coverage of this topic in one location Presents a review of the basic theory of expansions of the Helmholtz equation solutions Comprehensive description of both mathematical and practical aspects of the fast multipole method and it's applications to issues described by the Helmholtz equation

Book excerpt: In recent years, a variety of computational schemes have been developed that accelerate the iterative solution of the dense matrix equations that arise upon discretizing boundary integral equations pertinent to the description of electromagnetic scattering problems. These schemes largely fall into two categories: (i) fast multipole methods and (ii) wavelet/multiresolution schemes. The overall goal of this project is to develop and catalogue all practical hybrids between fast multipole solvers and multiresolution schemes useful to the analysis of electromagnetic boundary value problems. To this end, we developed (i) hybrid plane wave time domain (PWTD) multiresolution schemes pertinent to the construction of PWTD schemes for lossy media, (ii) PWTD schemes for 2D environments, (iii) PWTD solvers for microstrip structures, (iv) PWTD schemes for low-frequency solvers, (v) PWTD schemes for quasi-planar environments, (vi) PWTD schemes for periodic kernels, (vii) Time-Domain Adaptive Integral (TD-AIM) kernels for solving timedomain integral equations, (viii) TD-AIM accelerated hybrid time domain integral equation SPICE based circuit solvers, and (ix) a novel multigrid accelerator for the full wave finite element analysis of electromagnetic phenomena. Each and every of these solvers uses a multiresolution framework, either in space, time, or space-time to accelerate a boundary integral or finite element solver pertinent to the analysis of electromagnetic radiation, scattering, or guidance problems beyond what is possible using vanilla fastmultipole methods.

Book High Order Locally Corrected Nystrom Solution with Mixed Order Basis Functions for Electromagnetic Scattering

Download or read book High Order Locally Corrected Nystrom Solution with Mixed Order Basis Functions for Electromagnetic Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high-order locally-corrected Nystrom (LCN) solution of a hybrid volume/surface integral equation is presented for the electromagnetic scattering by complex targets that consist of composite homogeneous and inhomogeneous materials and conducting objects. It is found that for general scattering objects, the use of mixed-order basis functions accelerates the convergence of the LCN solution, eliminates spurious charges, and significantly reduce the condition number of the resulting linear system of equations. Fast iterative solvers based on a multi-level fast multipole method (MLFMM) and the quadrature sampled pre-corrected FET (QSPCFFT) are also employed to enable the practical solution of large complex targets.

Book Fast Multipole Methods for Electromagnetic Circuit Computations

Download or read book Fast Multipole Methods for Electromagnetic Circuit Computations written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the existence of the project, we designed Fast Multipole algorithms for the solution of the Laplace and Helmholtz equations, the latter predominately in the low-frequency regime. The principal analytical apparatus used were the new diagonal forms of translation operators for the Laplace and Helmholtz equation; such diagonal forms in turn required the use of Generalized Gaussian Quadratures, which we have also designed. In addition, we redesigned the logical structure of such algorithms, drastically reducing their memory requirements. At the present time, extremely efficient Fast Multipole Methods for the Laplace equation in three dimensions are in existence; the construction of such schemes for the Helmholtz equation in the low-frequency regime has been reduced to a purely programming task. Six publications reporting this work have appeared (or been accepted) in refereed journals; two publications have been released in the report form, and are about to be submitted to refereed journals; three publications are in preparation.

Book excerpt: At the outset of this contract, the focus of attention was the fast multipole method (FMM) for the Maxwell equations. The FMM essentially provides for a fast and accurate computation of "non-near" (in a sense made precise in fields of specified currents. The problem of efficient and accurate computation of near field effects was as challenging and needy of study as the FMM. By the time the contract was completed, we had made significant and fundamental progress on both fronts.

Book Iterative Solvers for Coupled Fluid Solid Scattering

Download or read book Iterative Solvers for Coupled Fluid Solid Scattering written by Jan Mandel and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multigrid method is used for coupled fluid-solid scattering discretized by linear finite elements. Numerical results show that using Krylov methods as smoothers allows coarser spaces than with standard smoothers, such as Jacobi and Gauss-Seidel. Block diagonal preconditioning for the 2 x 2 block diagonal matrix of the coupled system is also considered. Both multigrid and block diagonal preconditioned iterations fail to converge for frequencies when the scatterer is at resonance. It is shown how to transform the system into an equivalent one to avoid the resonance and to recover the convergence of the iterations.
