Book Land of the Cold Sky Book 2

Download or read book Land of the Cold Sky Book 2 written by Bruce Dunavin and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emotional and deeply spiritual conclusion to Book 1. This is an epic Christian love story to rival that of Romeo and Juliet. A mountain man (Shane McQuaid) found the love of his life (Becky) in a Ute village and with the grace and blessing of God, marries her. This second book begins where book 1 left off as they leave the Indian village that has been Beckys home for many years. The newlyweds set out on a dangerous journey to a cabin on the slopes of Buffalo Peaks. Shane hasnt seen his folks for over two years and they think he is dead. He wants to stop by the ranch and see them on the way to Buffalo Peaks. The threat continues as evil men seek to own the horse Shane rides and will do anything to possess this magical mare. They succeed in kidnapping Becky and are on their way to Denver where they will turn her over to the head of The Syndicate, Lou Blonger. He will trade her for the horse or sell her into slavery; whichever will make him the most money. He would also kill Shane, take the horse and keep Becky if that is an option. He is the personification of evil. The setting for this magnificent story is central Colorado in the latter half of the 1800s before law and order was established and before the railroads brought politicians, bankers, businessmen, lawyers and hoards of people that will eventually be the beginning of the end of the American West. Along the way there are other exciting tributaries to the main plot such as an unimaginable flash flood, tales of survival, death, western justice, supernatural healing, humor, hot springs, other mountain men, a rancher who has no use for politicians or lawyers, fur trappers, bandits, preachers, a dog with near human qualities, cruelty, loneliness, unmitigated happiness and more. There is even an improbable chess game. This book was written by a devout Christian for other Christian believers but will be an unforgettable read for anyone who likes to see good triumph over evil. This book will bring tears to your eyes; it will make your heart sing! This love story is painted against the backdrop of the awesome grandeur that is the Rocky Mountains. The author describes in great detail the feeling of standing on top of a 14,000-foot mountain to look down on eagles in flight. There is so much more to this book than can be described on one page. If you want a book you will cherish and be proud to give to a friend; pick this one up and read it. You will enjoy reading it more than once. It would make a movie the likes of which only comes along once in a lifetime.

Book Hip Hop And Other Things

Download or read book Hip Hop And Other Things written by Shea Serrano and published by Twelve. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HIP-HOP (AND OTHER THINGS) is about, as it were, rap, but also some other things. It's a smart, fun, funny, insightful book that spends the entirety of its time celebrating what has become the most dominant form of music these past two and a half decades. Tupac is in there. Jay Z is in there. Missy Elliott is in there. Drake is in there. Pretty much all of the big names are in there, as are a bunch of the smaller names, too. There's art from acclaimed illustrator Arturo Torres, there are infographics and footnotes; there's all kinds of stuff in there. Some of the chapters are serious, and some of the chapters are silly, and some of the chapters are a combination of both things. All of them, though, are treated with the care and respect that they deserve. HIP-HOP (AND OTHER THINGS) is the third book in the (And Other Things) series. The first two—Basketball (And Other Things) and Movies (And Other Things)—were both #1 New York Times bestsellers.

Book Cajun and Creole Music Makers

  • Author : Barry Jean Ancelet
  • Publisher : Univ. Press of Mississippi
  • Release : 1999

Download or read book Cajun and Creole Music Makers written by Barry Jean Ancelet and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 1999 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The virtual renaissance of all things Cajun and Creole has captivated enthusiasts throughout America and invigorated the culture back home. Who, just fifteen years ago, could have predicted that this regional music would become so astonishingly popular throughout the nation and the world? This new edition of a book first published in 1984 celebrates the music makers in the generation most responsible for the survival of Cajun music and zydeco and showcases many of the young performers who have emerged since them to give the music new spark. More than 100 color photographs, show them in their homes, on their front porches, and in their fields, as well as in performance at local clubs and dance halls and on festival stages. In interviews they speak directly about their lives, their music, and the vital tradition from which their rollicking music springs. Many of the legendary performers featured here--Dewey Balfa, Clifton Chenier, Nathan Abshire, Dennis McGee, Canray Fontenot, Varise Connor, Octa Clark, Lula Landry, and Inez Catalon--are no longer alive. Others from the early days continue to perform--Bois-sec Ardoin, Michael Doucet, D. L. Menard, and Zachary Richard. Their grandeur, humor, and humility are precisely the qualities this book captures. Featured too are young musicians who are taking their place in the dance halls, on festival stages, and on the folk music circuit. Cajun and Creole music makers, both young and old, still play in the old ways, but as young musicians--such as Geno Delafose and the French Rockin' Boogie, and Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys-- experiment and enrich the tradition with new sounds of rock, country, rap, and funk, the music evolves and enlivens a whole new audience. Barry Jean Ancelet, a native French-speaking Cajun, is chair of the Department of Modern Languages and director of the Center for Acadian and Creole Folklore at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Among his many books are Cajun Country and Cajun and Creole Folk Tales (both from the University Press of Mississippi). Elemore Morgan, Jr., is an artist and retired professor of visual art at University of Southwestern Louisiana.
