Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first English-language edition of International Tax Law in the Italian Legal System, is intended for students of university courses taught in English and for professionals, companies, teachers, and operators in general who, both in Italy and abroad, for various reasons (work, business, study, research) need an easy-to-use English-language tool to understand the Italian tax regulations governing transnational relations and phenomena. The first provides a systematic overview of the sources of international tax law and their interpretation, including a specific review of the main aspects of European tax law. The second part analyses the domestic rules concerning the taxation of the income of residents and non-residents, the domestic rules to combat international tax avoidance and evasion, the territoriality of VAT and the taxation of international trade for the purposes of this tax, and finally the main institutions of customs law.

In these pages, Calvino recounts his experiences in Italy’s antifascist resistance, pays homage to his influences, traces the evolution of his literary style, and, in one of the book’s most humorous and entertaining sections, provides a wry commentary on his travels in the United States in 1959 and 1960.

Book Toward a Comprehensive Tax Reform for Italy

Download or read book Toward a Comprehensive Tax Reform for Italy written by Emile Cammeraat and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2020-02-21 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper evaluates elements of a comprehensive reform of the Italian tax system. Reform options are guided by the principles of reducing complexity, broadening the tax base, and lowering marginal tax rates, especially the tax burden on labor income. The revenue and distributional implications of personal income and property tax reforms are assessed with EUROMOD, while a microsimulation model is developed to evaluate VAT reform options. Simulations suggest that a substantial reduction in the tax burden on labor income can be obtained with a revenue-neutral base-broadening reform that streamlines tax expenditures and updates the property valuation system. In addition, a comprehensive reform would benefit low- and middle-income households the most, by lowering significantly their overall current tax liability, which results in increased progressivity of the tax system.

Book excerpt: It is a common feeling for non-Italians to find great ways to do business and make money easily in Italy. It is a big country, with a strong economy, and multiple opportunities. After a good brainstorming session with your friends or fellow expats, you have finally found the next big thing in Italy, and you are 100% sure that you will make money off of it in a couple of years. You made the greatest business plan, and nothing - I literally mean, NOTHING - can stop your idea from being the next big thing. Not too fast!Your business plan did not account for two typical Italian features: high taxes and byzantine bureaucracy. Then, you start wandering around different online groups and blogs and hear horrific stories about businesses which were choked by the horrendous greediness of the tax office as well as the overall lack of business acumen of the Italian public offices in general. Those who made it have to face daily challenges and crawl through a complex, harsh, and unfriendly environment.Despite author's different take on the Italian business environment, this picture is far from being inaccurate as Italy tops the list of the countries with the highest taxation. This is discouraging, to say the least, if you want to start a business!Given that, there are multiple ways to deal through the system and prosper in this business environment, and Nicolò Bolla can guide you through the whole process of planning your tax expenditure wisely. In this book, Nicolò Bolla will provide real life examples and case stories developed through his experience to help you understand how to make the most out of your income in a legal, honest, and safe way.

Download or read book Italy written by International Monetary Fund. European Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-02-06 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Selected Issues paper uses the tax-benefit microsimulation model for the European Union (EUROMOD) to evaluate possible reforms to modernize Italy’s social safety net as well as ways to lower the tax wedge on labor. With a social safety net centered on pensions and the elderly and an array of income support schemes as well as a heavy tax burden falling on labor income, there is significant scope to improve Italy’s system of taxes and transfers to promote growth and inclusion. The paper also simulates the cost of a modern safety net using EUROMOD. The paper also provides an overview of Italy’s personal income tax regime, simulates the cost of moving toward a flatter regime that has previously been proposed by the government coalition and discusses some key reform principles. It is concluded that Italy needs a modern social safety net and a lower tax wedge on labor as part of a growth-friendly and inclusive fiscal consolidation package.
