Book Italian Dutch and Flemish XV XVII Century Paintings Vol 4

Download or read book Italian Dutch and Flemish XV XVII Century Paintings Vol 4 written by American Art Association and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Italian, Dutch and Flemish XV-XVII Century Paintings, Vol. 4: Portraits and Genre Subjects by English, French and German Masters; Of the Achillito Chiesa Collection Virgin Mother, half pagan, half Christian, neither too ethereal nor too sensual, is superbly portrayed kneeling before a prie-dieu within a grandiose renaissance interior, receiving the announcement and salutations from the Angel Gabriel. The architectonics and space composition suggest the very quintessence of Italian decorative genius. The Portrait of a Warrior ascribed by experts to Titian is not in a very good state Of preservation. The name of the original is unfortunately no longer legible and there is little clue as to his iden tity, but it is a fine subjective work much exalted by the personal dignity of the master. This book was released on 1998 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eight years after the publication of volume 2 dedicated to Lombardia, Centro Di publishes, in two volumes, the long awaited third volume in the series 'Repertory of Dutch and Flemish Paintings In Italian Public Collections'; this time the volume is dedicated to the almost 1000 works in Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta, and split into two parts. Initiated in 1998 and divided by Italian regions, the series, which is the result of a vast research project led by the Dutch Institute for Art History in Florence, is a great editorial feat, one that has brought outstanding works of art as well as lesser ones to the attention of the art specialist as well as to the wider public, bringing to light a huge amount of material scattered in collections all over Italy. Book Italian Fifteenth to Seventeenth century Drawings

Download or read book Italian Fifteenth to Seventeenth century Drawings written by Anna Forlani Tempesti and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 1991 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps more than any other collector of his generation in the United States, Robert Lehman was interested in acquiring early drawings. He made a great effort to add drawings to the collection of paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, and other objects that his father, Philip Lehman, had begun assembling. The 116 Italian drawings analyzed and discussed in this volume are among the more than 2,000 works of art from the collection now housed in the Robert Lehman Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Robert Lehman's collection demonstrates the variety of drawings produced in Italy from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century, a period when the purposes and techniques of drawings, as well as the aims and abilities of the artist who made them, became increasingly sophisticated. The volume includes an elaborate design for an equestrian monument by Antonio Pollaiuolo, a magnificent study of a bear by Leonardo da Vinci, a cartoon by Luca Signorelli, a study for a vault fresco by Taddeo Zuccaro, and many other drawings that are among the best Italian examples to have survived from that era. Most types of drawings, in a wide variety of techniques, are represented—figure studies, grand compositions, landscapes, cartoons, modelli, and even sculptors' studies. -- Metropolitan Museum of Art website.

Book Fifteenth to Eighteenth century European Drawings

Download or read book Fifteenth to Eighteenth century European Drawings written by Egbert Haverkamp Begemann (Kunsthistoriker) and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 1999 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Early European art was a consuming interest of both Robert Lehman and his father, Philip Lehman, an interest reflected in the remarkable number and quality of drawings they owned from the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. In addition to an important group of early German drawings, the collection includes a "Saint Paul" from a series associated with Jan van Eyck and the famous "Scupstoel" from the circle of Rogier van der Weyden, the only design for a decorative sculpture to survive from the fifteenth century. The great artists of the seventeenth century, Peter Paul Rubens, Jacob Jordaens, Claude Lorrain, and Rembrandt among them, are also represented, Rembrandt by seven drawings, including the large study of Leonardo's "Last Supper" that would stay in his mind all through his career. Drawings by Antoine Watteau, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Gabriel de Saint-Aubin, Thomas Gainsborough, Paul Sandby, and George Romney are among the many from eighteenth-century France and England. The volume discusses all 153 drawings at length, placing each in its art historical setting and complementing the discussion with comparative illustrations of related works." Book Dutch Seventeenth century Genre Painting

Download or read book Dutch Seventeenth century Genre Painting written by Wayne E. Franits and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The appealing genre paintings of great seventeenth-century Dutch artists - Vermeer, Steen, de Hooch, Dou and others - have long enjoyed tremendous popularity. This comprehensive book explores the evolution of genre painting throughout the Dutch Golden Age, beginning in the early 1600s and continuing through the opening years of the next century. Wayne Franits, a well-known scholar of Dutch genre painting, offers a wealth of information about these works as well as about seventeenth-century Dutch culture, its predilections and its prejudices. The author approaches genre paintings from a variety of perspectives, examining their reception among contemporary audiences and setting the works in their political, cultural and economic contexts. The works emerge as distinctly conventional images, Franits shows, as genre artists continually replicated specific styles, motifs and a surprisingly restricted number of themes over the course of several generations. Luxuriously illustrated and with a full representation of the major artists and the cities where genre painting flourished, this book will delight students, scholars and general readers alike.

Download or read book Drawings from the Age of Bruegel Rubens and Rembrandt written by William W. Robinson and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-02 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This superb book presents 100 notable examples from the Harvard Art Museums’ distinguished collection of Dutch, Flemish, and Netherlandish drawings from the 16th to 18th century. Featuring such masters as Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Peter Paul Rubens, and Rembrandt van Rijn, the volume showcases beautiful color illustrations accompanied by insightful commentary on prevalent styles and techniques. Genres that define this artistic period—landscape, scenes of everyday life, portraiture, and still life—are explored in detail. The book also presents the results of new conservation and technical study, including infrared analysis and scientific examinations of drawing materials. This revelatory new research has allowed previously illegible underdrawings and inscriptions in many of the artworks to surface for the first time, shedding light on longstanding mysteries of production and provenance.
