Book excerpt: "A quirky detective heroine, a grumpy alpha hero, an adorable young niece, a cute Shih Tzu, and a dash of kink add up to the perfect light, steamy summer read!" - Misha Bell, author of Hard Code Restaurant owner and bajillionaire Miguel Santiago literally tops the list of Boston's Most Notorious Bachelors. He's also handsome as sin, a world-class a*hole, and thanks to the fickle real estate gods? My new neighbor. When my BFFs and I opened Yogasm right next to his restaurant, we had no idea he wanted the space. Nothing personal, big guy. Now that we're here, we're not leaving, no matter what kind of Epic Playboy Tantrum he throws. The best way to handle a bully is to ignore them, right? So that's exactly what I plan to do. His smoldery dark eyes? Pfft. I barely notice them. His broad, muscled shoulders? Samesies. The way he smiles that slow, crooked smile like he wants to show me exactly how he earned that spot on the Notorious List? So. Super. Ignorable. But when his feisty little niece comes to me for help locating her mother... well, that's the kind of thing a girl like me can't ignore, even if it forces me to get right up close and way-too-personal with the force of nature next door. If Mr. Notorious wants a battle of the wills, he'd better buckle up, because this girl plays to win...

Book It takes two Women s empowerment in agricultural value chains in Malawi

Download or read book It takes two Women s empowerment in agricultural value chains in Malawi written by Ragasa, Catherine and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusive agricultural value chains (VCs) are potential drivers for poverty reduction, food security, and women’s empowerment. This report assesses the implementation of the Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education Training for Women Program (ATVET4Women) that aims to support women with vocational training and market linkages in priority agricultural value chains. This report focuses on Malawi, one of the six pilot countries of the ATVET4Women; and focuses on vegetable value chains in which some non-formal training sessions have been conducted as of October 2019. This report presents (1) program experience of stakeholders; (2) evidence of program benefits and challenges among ATVET4Women non-formal training graduates; and (3) baseline data on value chain and empowerment indicators, using a pilot household survey-based instrument for measuring women’s empowerment in agricultural value chains (pro-WEAI for market inclusion) and supplementary qualitative research. Results show graduates’ satisfaction and appreciation of the training provided, and some graduates reported having access to more lucrative markets as a result of the training. However, positive changes in several outcome indicators were reported by only some graduates: 30 percent of graduates reported increased production and sales. There is no significant difference in the reported changes and levels of vegetable production and income between graduates and non-graduates. Qualitative findings suggest that constraints to accessing agricultural inputs and funds to upgrade their production may be why there are no measured differences. Results on empowerment status reveal that 73 percent of women and 85 percent of men in the sample are empowered, and 73 percent of the sample households achieved gender parity. The main contributor of disempowerment among women and men is lack of work balance and autonomy in income. Fewer women achieved adequacy in work balance than men. Adequacies in attitudes about domestic violence, respect among household members, input in productive decisions, and asset ownership are generally high for both women and men, but significantly lower for women. While this report is mainly descriptive and further analysis is ongoing, it offers some lessons and practical implications for improving ATVET4Women program implementation and its outcomes on women’s market access, incomes, and empowerment.

Book The House on Mango Street

Download or read book The House on Mango Street written by Sandra Cisneros and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A coming-of-age classic about a young girl growing up in Chicago • Acclaimed by critics, beloved by readers of all ages, taught in schools and universities alike, and translated around the world—from the winner of the 2019 PEN/Nabokov Award for Achievement in International Literature. “Cisneros draws on her rich [Latino] heritage...and seduces with precise, spare prose, creat[ing] unforgettable characters we want to lift off the page. She is not only a gifted writer, but an absolutely essential one.” —The New York Times Book Review The House on Mango Street is one of the most cherished novels of the last fifty years. Readers from all walks of life have fallen for the voice of Esperanza Cordero, growing up in Chicago and inventing for herself who and what she will become. “In English my name means hope,” she says. “In Spanish it means too many letters. It means sadness, it means waiting." Told in a series of vignettes—sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous—Cisneros’s masterpiece is a classic story of childhood and self-discovery and one of the greatest neighborhood novels of all time. Like Sinclair Lewis’s Main Street or Toni Morrison’s Sula, it makes a world through people and their voices, and it does so in language that is poetic and direct. This gorgeous coming-of-age novel is a celebration of the power of telling one’s story and of being proud of where you're from.

Book The Vegan Planet Revised Edition

Download or read book The Vegan Planet Revised Edition written by Robin Robertson and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it first appeared in 2003, Vegan Planet revolutionized animal-free cooking. Robin Robertson's pioneering book played a leading role in the passage of veganism from subculture to mainstream culinary lifestyle. Its breadth and variety of fantastically flavorful food not only gave vegans what they craved, it gave them food they could serve up happily to their non-vegan family members and friends. One decade and more than 100,000 copies later, this important classic is back in a thoroughly revised edition. Vegan cookbooks are big sellers today, but in a thicket of topical and niche titles there's a need for an everyday cooking bible on which vegan cooks can rely. The new Vegan Planet meets that need handsomely. Robertson's extensive updates cover such things as: the newly expanded range of whole grains that are available; super greens, such as kale and chard, that are rising in popularity; new facts concerning which cooking oils are healthiest and most earth-friendly; and new saucing and flavoring ideas from the global pantry. Throughout, there's the spirit of adventure and of culinary creativity that has cemented Robertson's reputation at the top of the vegan pantheon.
