Book It Takes One to Tango

Download or read book It Takes One to Tango written by Edward L. Rowny and published by Potomac Books. This book was released on 1992 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ambassador Ed Rowny holds a unique position in American history as a key arms control advisor and negotiator for presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush. No other policy-maker has ever negotiated for and counseled five presidents and their cabinets. Ambassador Rowny's revealing memoirs contain startling and sometimes amusing anecdotes about Henry Kissinger, Jim Baker, Amy Carter, drunken Soviet negotiators, Ronald Reagan, Leonid Brezhnev, Mikhail Gorbachev, and many other U.S. and world figures. It Takes One to Tango highlights what took place behind closed doors and is highly critical of George Bush's presidency. By the man who helped negotiate and then sink SALT II, this outspoken account of events at the highest government levels is a wry inside look at five U.S. administrations and a barbed commentary on the major players in the foreign policy and national security arenas. This is the book that tells you what it's like to sit at the conference table with presidents, how Brezhnev and Gorbachev behaved, what Ronald Reagan said about Raisa Gorbachev - and which emperors had no clothes. Ambassador Rowny provides an unprecedented look at world leaders, the Washington elite, and negotiating about life and death.

Book excerpt: A San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of 2015 An NBC Latino Selection for Ten Great Latino Books Published in 2015 Arriving in Buenos Aires in 1913, with only a suitcase and her father’s cherished violin to her name, seventeen-year-old Leda is shocked to find that the husband she has travelled across an ocean to reach is dead. Unable to return home, alone, and on the brink of destitution, she finds herself seduced by the tango, the dance that underscores every aspect of life in her new city. Knowing that she can never play in public as a woman, Leda disguises herself as a young man to join a troupe of musicians. In the illicit, scandalous world of brothels and cabarets, the line between Leda and her disguise begins to blur, and forbidden longings that she has long kept suppressed are realized for the first time. Powerfully sensual, The Gods of Tango is an erotically charged story of music, passion, and the quest for an authentic life against the odds.

Nope. Nope. I might need protection from an entire MC, but I did not need to share my man. Tango From the moment I laid eyes on her, Liza was all that I could see. Book Tango And The Political Economy Of Passion

Download or read book Tango And The Political Economy Of Passion written by Marta Savigliano and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is tango? Dance, music, and lyrics of course, but also a philosophy, a strategy, a commodity, even a disease. This book explores the politics of tango, tracing tango's travels from the brothels of Buenos Aires to the cabarets of Paris and the shako dansu clubs of Tokyo. The author is an Argentinean political theorist and a dance professor at the University of California at Riverside. She uses her ?tango tongue? to tell interwoven tales of sexuality, gender, race, class, and national identity. Along the way she unravels relations between machismo and colonialism, postmodernism and patriarchy, exoticism and commodification. In the end she arrives at a discourse on decolonization as intellectual ?unlearning.?Marta Savigliano's voice is highly personal and political. Her account is at once about the exoticization of tango and about her own fate as a Third World woman intellectual. A few sentences from the preface are indicative: ?Tango is my womb and my tongue, a trench where I can shelter and resist the colonial invitations to '`'universalism,'? a stubborn fatalist mood when technocrats and theorists offer optimistic and seriously revised versions of '`'alternatives' for the Third World, an opportunistic metaphor to talk about myself and my stories as a success' of the civilization-development-colonization of Am ca Latina, and a strategy to figure out through the history of the tango a hooked-up story of people like myself. Tango is my changing, resourceful source of identity. And because I am where I am?outside?tango hurts and comforts me: '`'Tango is a sad thought that can be danced.'?Savigliano employs the tools of ethnography, history, body-movement analysis, and political economy. Well illustrated with drawings and photos dating back to the 1880s, this book is highly readable, entertaining, and provocative. It is sure to be recognized as an important contribution in the fields of cultural studies, performance studies, decolonization, and women-of-color feminism.

Download or read book Tango written by Justin Bond and published by Feminist Press at CUNY. This book was released on 2011 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Like Bond, the memoir is droll, pensive and filled with zingers teetering between funny and ferocious."--The New York Times Hailed as "the greatest cabaret artist of [V's] generation" in the New Yorker, Mx. Justin Vivian Bond makes a brilliant literary debut with this candid and hilarious coming-of-age tale. Bond recalls in vivid detail how it looked and felt to first discover Mom's lipstick (Iced Watermelon by Revlon), and how dreary it could be for a trans/queer kid to join the Cub Scouts. Always haunted by the knowledge of being "different," Bond began to create intimate friendships with girls, and to feel increasingly at risk with boys. But when the bully next door wanted to meet secretly, Bond couldn't resist. Their trysts went on for years, making Bond acutely aware of how sexual power and vulnerability can be experienced at the same time. With inimitable style, Bond raises issues about LBGTQ adolescence, parenting trans/queer children, and bullying, while being utterly entertaining.
