Book excerpt: From Dr. Jennifer Ashton—the Chief Medical Correspondent at ABC News covering breaking medical news for Good Morning America and GMA3: What You Need to Know—comes a doctor’s guide to finding resilience in the time of COVID, while staying safe and sane in a rapidly changing world. In March 2020, “normal” life changed, perhaps forever. In its place we were confronted with life and routines that were unusual and different: the new normal. As we’ve all learned since then, the new normal isn’t just about wearing masks and standing six feet apart—it’s about recognizing how to stay safe and sane in a world that is suddenly unfamiliar. And no one understands this evolving landscape better than Dr. Jennifer Ashton. As ABC’s Chief Medical Correspondent, Dr. Ashton has been reporting on the novel coronavirus daily, helping Americans comprehend the urgent medical updates that have shaped the nation’s continued response to this public health crisis. Now in The New Normal, Dr. Ashton offers the essential toolkit for life in this unfamiliar reality. Rooted in her reporting on COVID-19 and the understanding that the virus isn’t going anywhere overnight, The New Normal is built on a simple foundation: thriving in this evolving world demands accepting the new normal for what it is, not what we want it to be. No longer is wellness a buzzword, but an imperative for surviving this unprecedented time. Using her trademark practical, easy-to-follow advice, Dr. Ashton gives you all the necessary information to reclaim control of your life and live safely—from exercise, to diet, to general health—showing how to prepare your body and mind for challenges such as: - Taking proper medical precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones - Exercising during the pandemic, even if you no longer feel safe at the gym - Finding emotional balance through these uncertain times - Deciphering complicated medical news to learn what to trust and what to ignore With these straightforward and accessible strategies and many more, Dr. Ashtonhelps empower you to make the unexpectedly hard decisions about socializing, food-shopping, seeing doctors, and most of all, finding normalcy. At once reassuring and urgent, The New Normal is a holistic roadmap through the ongoing struggles of the pandemic, providing the guidance you need to navigate this unsettling time and take charge of your future wellbeing.
Download or read book The Infinite Game written by Simon Sinek and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of Start With Why and Leaders Eat Last, a bold framework for leadership in today’s ever-changing world. How do we win a game that has no end? Finite games, like football or chess, have known players, fixed rules and a clear endpoint. The winners and losers are easily identified. Infinite games, games with no finish line, like business or politics, or life itself, have players who come and go. The rules of an infinite game are changeable while infinite games have no defined endpoint. There are no winners or losers—only ahead and behind. The question is, how do we play to succeed in the game we’re in? In this revelatory new book, Simon Sinek offers a framework for leading with an infinite mindset. On one hand, none of us can resist the fleeting thrills of a promotion earned or a tournament won, yet these rewards fade quickly. In pursuit of a Just Cause, we will commit to a vision of a future world so appealing that we will build it week after week, month after month, year after year. Although we do not know the exact form this world will take, working toward it gives our work and our life meaning. Leaders who embrace an infinite mindset build stronger, more innovative, more inspiring organizations. Ultimately, they are the ones who lead us into the future.

Book excerpt: Start With Why has led millions of readers to rethink everything they do – in their personal lives, their careers and their organizations. Now Find Your Why picks up where Start With Why left off. It shows you how to apply Simon Sinek’s powerful insights so that you can find more inspiration at work -- and in turn inspire those around you. I believe fulfillment is a right and not a privilege. We are all entitled to wake up in the morning inspired to go to work, feel safe when we’re there and return home fulfilled at the end of the day. Achieving that fulfillment starts with understanding exactly WHY we do what we do. As Start With Why has spread around the world, countless readers have asked me the same question: How can I apply Start With Why to my career, team, company or nonprofit? Along with two of my colleagues, Peter Docker and David Mead, I created this hands-on, step-by-step guide to help you find your WHY. With detailed exercises, illustrations, and action steps for every stage of the process, Find Your Why can help you address many important concerns, including: * What if my WHY sounds just like my competitor’s? * Can I have more than one WHY? * If my work doesn’t match my WHY, what should I do? * What if my team can’t agree on our WHY? Whether you've just started your first job, are leading a team, or are CEO of your own company, the exercises in this book will help guide you on a path to long-term success and fulfillment, for both you and your colleagues. Thank you for joining us as we work together to build a world in which more people start with WHY. Inspire on! -- Simon

Download or read book Education Equality and Justice in the New Normal written by Inny Accioly and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by leading scholars and activists from Brazil, Chile, Greece, Italy, Malta, the UK, and the USA, this book shows how vitally important education is in addressing the complex social and political problems which have been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic. The growing protest and demonstrations worldwide, including the Black Lives Matter and environmental movements, have served as platforms to unmask the embedded racism, sexism, classism, and discrimination which are rooted in neo-colonial forms of exploitation. People are recognizing the intensification of the genocide of black youth, indigenous peoples, peasants and traditional communities in the global ghettos. The rising level of conscientization reached through these protests and demonstrations makes it clear that critical educators must refuse the return to neoliberal “normality” after pandemic. The chapters cover the tensions and contradictions that fuel debates in education concerning social distancing, collective illness, increasing social and economic inequality and privatization reforms. The contributors argue for social and environmental justice, the importance of educators and teacher unions, the role of environmental education, the need to guarantee cultural diversity and the strengthening of ancestral cultures. The book includes chapters by Noam Chomsky, Amy Goodman and Henry A. Giroux and a Foreword by Antonia Darder.

Download or read book Relaunch and touch the sky written by Subrata Dev Roy and published by SUBRATA DEB ROY. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are more mature with all the experiences and knowledge that we have acquired. The problem is, we focus on what we lack rather than what we are perfect and complete. There is nothing wrong with analyzing our weak points and working on them but what we overlook in the areas where we are best, perfect, and complete. There's a story about eagles, eagles live to be sixty to eighty years old. After reaching his forties, he goes into exile for nearly 100 days until the climax where he begins to pluck all his feathers and break his claws, the beak hitting the rocks. It starves for the next 100 days without any food until new feathers, beaks, and claws sprout. He resuscitates himself, lives newborns for the next 20 to 40 years. We, humans, are social animals who learn to live from the animals and birds around us. Let's practice like how an eagle works to resuscitate itself in our way to focus on the physical aspects while spending more time on our health through regular exercise, good nutrition, and disciplined life. Let's not be demoralized by age ... Age is just a number. Let's work on the positive side of improving and upgrading our skills. *Stay Hungry Stay Foolish* Let's live every moment of our life and have fun like this is going to be the last day of our lives, but keep learning every moment as if we are going to live like an immortal forever. Remember that reaching quarantine is not a curse but a blessing in disguise. Did you know that lions only succeed in a quarter of their hunting attempts - which means they fail 75% of their attempts and only succeed 25% of them? Despite this small percentage shared by most predators, they do not despair in their pursuit and hunting attempts. The main reason for this is not because of hunger as some might think, but it is the understanding of the "law of wasted effort" which was instinctively incorporated into animals, a law in which nature is ruled. Half of the fish eggs are eaten ... half of the baby bears die before puberty ... most of the world's rains fall in the oceans ... and most tree seeds are eaten by birds. Scientists have found that animals, trees, and other forces of nature are more receptive to the law of "wasted effort". Only humans think that the lack of success in a few attempts is a failure ... but the truth is: we only fail when we "stop trying". Success is not about having a life without pitfalls and falls ... but success is about overcoming your mistakes and going beyond every step where your efforts have been wasted waiting for the next step. If there is one word that sums up this world, it will simply be: start over. Always be inspired.

Nevertheless, she navigates her rocky life as best she can, not always with grace, but with her own brand of twisted humor. She joins the chess club with her friend Roy, earns a part in the school production of The Wizard of Oz, buys an awesome wig, lands a crappy job, gets invited to the prom (by three different guys!) and helps her parents re-enter the land of the living. What Tamar lacks in tact (and hair), she makes up for in sheer tenacity.
Download or read book O BRAVE NEW NORMAL WORLD Living with Coronavirus written by Steve Gleadhill and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2024-04-23 with total page 1007 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pandemic unleashed a strange half-world - not the comfortably familiar one we all knew and loved, but one in which we had to tread carefully and remain vigilant. Subsequently, it became a game of risk management that created tensions between the political desire to return to some form of normality and the need to protect lives. Inevitably, this conflict of interests led to confusion, confrontation and, sadly, deaths. Despite some catastrophic misjudgements at the governmental level, we ourselves must also shoulder some of the blame. Social media added fuel to the fire for those who chose to challenge the official guidance as an infringement on their personal freedoms and rights and preferred to interpret events as evidence of institutional conspiracies. Amid this mayhem, our planet was suffering. It was estimated that one million of our eight million species on Earth are threatened with extinction – some within decades. A report by WWF and the Zoological Society of London revealed that animal populations globally had plunged by 68% in more than twenty thousand populations of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish in the last fifty years.

Download or read book Security Awareness Design in the New Normal Age written by Wendy F. Goucher and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-07-18 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People working in our cyber world have access to a wide range of information including sensitive personal or corporate information which increases the risk to it. One of the aspects of the protection of this data is to train the user to behave more securely. This means that every person who handles sensitive information, their own or that of other people, be aware of the risks that their use can pose as well as how to do their job in such a way as to reduce that risk. The approach we use for that is called ‘Security awareness’ but would be more accurately described as security ‘un-awareness’ because most of the problems come where the user doesn’t know about a risk from their behaviour, or its potential impact. In these post COVID days of ‘New Normal’ working, in which staff spend more of their time working at home, organisations are still responsible for the protection of sensitive personal and corporate data. This means that it is more important than ever to create an effective security awareness communication process. This book will primarily consider the problem of hitting that ‘Sweet Spot’ in the age of ‘New Normal' working, which means that the knowledge about secure practice is not only understood and remembered, but also reliably put into practice – even when a person is working alone. This will be informed by academic research as well as experience, both my own and learnt from my fellow professionals, and then will be used to demonstrate how ‘New Normal’ working can improve security awareness as well as challenge it.
