They coaxed every Mafioso throughout Italy to join their powerful Family. Those who would not join received a black rose, which was quickly followed by a violent death. The rest of the Families, knowing that to do nothing meant certain death, banded together and swooped down on the Monfradini Family. They were led by Angelo Procotchi, who gave orders to kill everyone, including women and children, so that there could be no retaliation. Fear again strikes the modern day Mafia Families. Descendents of Angelo Procotchi receive black roses sent by the Black Rose herself, a descendent of the only Monfradini to secretly escape the massacre. This beautiful woman, who calls herself the Black Rose, quickly becomes a major force on the East Coast, employing the same strategy as her great grandfather. John Romano fights to keep the Family members from the certain death the Black Rose has promised. This seems to be an insurmountable task as the Black Rose proves to be a very difficult adversary because of her cunning and her breathtaking beauty. Book As political soldiers we face Moscow s hordes Dutch volunteers in the Waffen SS

Download or read book As political soldiers we face Moscow s hordes Dutch volunteers in the Waffen SS written by Evertjan van Roekel and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2022-01-04 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Second World War, approximately 25,000 Dutchmen served within the ranks of the military branch of the German SS: the Waffen-SS. They volunteered to fight to secure the victory of Nazi Germany. These Dutch volunteers fought mainly on the Eastern Front, and to a lesser extent, within their own national borders. After the war, the Allied victors regarded them as part of a criminal organization and jointly responsible for the atrocious transgressions of the Nazi regime. In the Netherlands, these men were reviled, branded as traitors and became pariahs in their own country. Those who had devoted themselves to the Nazi regime caused so much grief to the Netherlands that they had to be held accountable. Despite their military achievements, their reputation was damaged forever. The Netherlands supplied the largest contingent of SS soldiers from the occupied North-western European territories. Who were these people? What led them to enlist, and what were the consequences of their choice? An important part of this study involves the autobiographical texts of nineteen Dutch volunteers in the Waffen-SS. These ego-documents recount their own immediate experiences and are mainly fragments from diaries, but there are also letters, individual notes, and memoirs. The ego-documents are placed within the larger historical context to provide an answer to the question of whether these men were only ideologically motivated and unconditional Nazi sympathizers, and for this, their criminal records are also researched. Among other topics, the book discusses their choice to enlist, their experiences at the front, and their involvement in genocide, providing a new perspective on the Eastern Front.

Book excerpt: An unlikely friendship, a four-thousand-mile voyage, and an impenetrable frontier—this dramatic odyssey reveals the chaos and cruelty US immigration policies have unleashed beyond our borders. Axel Kirschner was a lifelong New Yorker, all Queens hustle and bravado. But he was also undocumented. After a minor traffic violation while driving his son to kindergarten, Axel was deported to Guatemala, a country he swore he had not lived in since he was a baby. While fighting his way back through Mexico on a migrant caravan, Axel met Levi Vonk, a young anthropologist and journalist from the US. That chance encounter would change both of their lives forever. Levi soon discovered that Axel was no ordinary migrant. He was harboring a secret: Axel was a hacker. This secret would launch the two friends on a dangerous adventure far beyond what either of them could have imagined. While Axel’s abilities gave him an edge in a system that denied his existence, they would also ensnare him in a tangled underground network of human traffickers, corrupt priests, and anti-government guerillas eager to exploit his talents for their own ends. And along the way, Axel’s secret only raised more questions for Levi about his past. How had Axel learned to hack? What did he want? And was Axel really who he said he was? Border Hacker is at once an adventure saga—the story of a man who would do anything to return to his family, and the friend who would do anything to help him—and a profound parable about the violence of American immigration policy told through a single, extraordinary life.
