Book The Papers of Martin Luther King Jr Volume IV

Download or read book The Papers of Martin Luther King Jr Volume IV written by Martin Luther King Jr. and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-11-15 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acclaimed by Ebony magazine as "one of those rare publishing events that generate as much excitement in the cloistered confines of the academy as they do in the general public," The Papers of Martin Luther King, Jr. chronicles one of the twentieth century's most dynamic personalities and one of the nation's greatest social struggles. King's call for racial justice and his faith in the power of nonviolence to engender a major transformation of American society is movingly conveyed in this authoritative multivolume series. In Volume IV, with the Montgomery bus boycott at an end, King confronts the sudden demands of celebrity while trying to identify the next steps in the burgeoning struggle for equality. Anxious to duplicate the success of the boycott, he spends much of 1957 and 1958 establishing the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. But advancing the movement in the face of dogged resistance, he finds that it is easier to inspire supporters with his potent oratory than to organize a mass movement for social change. Yet King remains committed: "The vast possibilities of a nonviolent, non-cooperative approach to the solution of the race problem are still challenging indeed. I would like to remain a part of the unfolding development of this approach for a few more years." King's budding international prestige is affirmed in March 1957, when he attends the independence ceremonies in Ghana, West Africa. Two months later his first national address, at the "Prayer Pilgrimage for Freedom," is widely praised, and in June 1958, King's increasing prominence is recognized with a long-overdue White House meeting. During this period King also cultivates alliances with the labor and pacifist movements, and international anticolonial organizations. As Volume IV closes, King is enjoying the acclaim that has greeted his first book, Stride Toward Freedom, only to suffer a near-fatal stabbing in New York City.

"A heartfelt wake up call to not let yourselves get busy in life with jobs, kids, etc. and find yourselves drifted apart, and strangers a far cry from who you were when you fell in love. A beautiful love story of love resurrected and fealty and putting family first, when most authors would have had a quick divorce dialogue and then the main event as a new character after the finalization. I am so very appreciative." ~★★★★★ from Michaela "There are plenty of emotions to go through with Jenna and Dave and you get both sides but the best thing about this story is it is about falling back in love with the love of your life and remembering what they once were and what they can be again." ~★★★★★ from Fleur Get your copy of the first volume today and save on all three books. Book Spanish America Its Romance Reality and Future Volume 1 Illustrations

Download or read book Spanish America Its Romance Reality and Future Volume 1 Illustrations written by Charles Reginald Enock and published by T. FISHER UNWIN LTD. This book was released on 2015-01-08 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this work is twofold—to afford a broad survey of the Latin American countries, with the colour and interest which so strongly characterizes this half of the New World; and to offer in some degree a detailed study of the region as concerns what (elsewhere) I have ventured to term a "science of humanity" or science of corporate life, whose main factors are topographical, occupational or industrial, and ethical or ethical-economic. New responsibilities are arising in our dealings and contact with foreign lands, especially those whose social affairs are still backward. We must beware how we regard the folk of such lands mainly as hewers of wood and drawers of water, or absorbents of exported goods or producers of dividends, or their lands as mainly reservoirs of raw material. Elemental forces are at work in the world to-day, which only justice and constructive intelligence can control. The English-speaking peoples have wide interests and consequent responsibilities in these lands: matters which are discussed in the final chapter. As will be seen, I have embodied many descriptive passages in this book from the various authors of the South American Series, to which the present work is in a measure auxiliary.

Book The Institutes of Biblical Law Vol 1

Download or read book The Institutes of Biblical Law Vol 1 written by R. J. Rushdoony and published by Chalcedon Foundation. This book was released on 2009-11-16 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To attempt to study Scripture without studying its law is to deny it. To attempt to understand Western civilization apart from the impact of Biblical law within it and upon it is to seek a fictitious history and to reject twenty centuries and their progress. The Institutes of Biblical Law has as its purpose a reversal of the present trend. it is called "Institutes" in the older meaning of the that word, i.e., fundamental principles, here of law, because it is intended as a beginning, as an instituting consideration of that law which must govern society, and which shall govern society under God. To understand Biblical law, it is necessary to understand also certain basic characteristics of that law. In it, certain broad premises or principles are declared. These are declarations of basic law. The Ten Commandments give us such declarations. A second characteristics of Biblical law, is that the major portion of the law is case law, i.e., the illustration of the basic principle in terms of specific cases. These specific cases are often illustrations of the extent of the application of the law; that is, by citing a minimal type of case, the necessary jurisdictions of the law are revealed. The law, then, asserts principles and cites cases to develop the implications of those principles, with is purpose and direction the restitution of God's order.
