Book Its All about Control

Book excerpt: It's All About Control? Are You In?Or Out? A new book presents insights and strategies to put you in control One of the most difficult, yet often overlooked, challenges in life is the issue of self-control. Many people feel lost due to lack of it and don?t realize that fulfilling their destiny begins with this important life skill. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have total control of your destiny? Or wondered if that can even be achieved? The answers to these questions and others are explained by author Randy McDonald, Ph.D., in his compelling new book entitled It's All About Control. McDonald's book explains the programming that we have all been subjected to: how it got there, why we?re oblivious to it, and how it stops us from being in control of our lives. He makes readers aware of what they do, why they do it, and then helps them to consider their choices; this gives readers the courage to make needed changes in their lives. Through examples from his own life, McDonald outlines a series of steps that readers can easily integrate into their daily life. Strategies are presented for relationships (professional & personal), for health, adjusting your programming, controlling work environments, and identifying situations that are controlling you or those where you are in control. Intelligent and fascinating, It's All About Control will interest everyone who does not feel in complete control in life. McDonald's smart prose and down-to-earth language gives clear direction on how to move toward reinventing one's self and improving relationships at work and at home. You will achieve better balance, live with more optimism, and ultimately achieve a more rewarding andfulfilling life.

Book Postal and Delivery Innovation in the Digital Economy

Download or read book Postal and Delivery Innovation in the Digital Economy written by Michael A. Crew and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-12 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Worldwide, postal and delivery economics is the subject of considerable interest. The postal industry’s business model is in drastic need of change. Notably, the European Commission and member states are still wrestling with the problems of implementing liberalization of entry into postal markets, addressing digital competition, and maintaining the universal service obligation. In the United States, the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 has, perhaps, exacerbated some of the problems faced by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Currently, the USPS has serious financial problems because of difficulties it faces in making changes and the failure of the Act to address problems that have been long-standing. Electronic competition is severe and affects post offices (POs) worldwide, which have been slow to address the threat. This book addresses this new reality and includes discussion of how POs may attempt to reinvent themselves. Parcels and packets will play a major role in developing new business models for postal operators. This book is of use not only to students and researchers interested in the field, but also to postal operators, consulting firms, utilities, regulatory commissions, Federal Government Departments and agencies of the European Union and other countries.

Book How Consumer Culture Controls Our Kids

Download or read book How Consumer Culture Controls Our Kids written by Jennifer Hill and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-11-02 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This gripping book considers the history, techniques, and goals of child-targeted consumer campaigns and examines children's changing perceptions of what commodities they "need" to be valued and value themselves. In this critique of America's consumption-based society, author Jennifer Hill chronicles the impact of consumer culture on children—from the evolution of childhood play to a child's self-perception as a consumer to the consequences of this generation's repeated media exposure to violence. Hill proposes that corporations, eager to tap into a multibillion-dollar market, use the power of advertising and the media to mold children's thoughts and behaviors. The book features vignettes with teenagers explaining, in their own words, how advertising determines their needs, wants, and self-esteem. An in-depth analysis of this research reveals the influence of media on a young person's desire to conform, shows how broadcasted depictions of beauty distort the identities of children and teens, and uncovers corporate agendas for manipulating behavior in the younger generation. The work concludes with the position that corporations are shaping children to be efficient consumers but, in return, are harming their developing young minds and physical well-being.

Book Affect and Cognition in Criminal Decision Making

Download or read book Affect and Cognition in Criminal Decision Making written by Jean-Louis van Gelder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research and theorizing on criminal decision making has not kept pace with recent developments in other fields of human decision making. Whereas criminal decision making theory is still largely dominated by cognitive approaches such as rational choice-based models, psychologists, behavioral economists and neuroscientists have found affect (i.e., emotions, moods) and visceral factors such as sexual arousal and drug craving, to play a fundamental role in human decision processes. This book examines alternative approaches to incorporating affect into criminal decision making and testing its influence on such decisions. In so doing it generalizes extant cognitive theories of criminal decision making by incorporating affect into the decision process. In two conceptual and ten empirical chapters it is carefully argued how affect influences criminal decisions alongside rational and cognitive considerations. The empirical studies use a wide variety of methods ranging from interviews and observations to experimental approaches and questionnaires, and treat crimes as diverse as street robbery, pilfering, and sex offences. It will be of interest to criminologists, social psychologists, judgment and decision making researchers, behavioral economists and sociologists alike.
