Book excerpt: "Abandoned by their parents as toddlers, Willie and Bobbie Nelson found their love of music almost immediately through their grandparents, who raised them in a dusty small town in east Texas. Their close relationship ... is the longest-lasting bond in either of their lives. In alternating chapters, this ... dual memoir weaves together their lives as they experienced them both side-by-side and apart with powerful, emotional stories from growing up, playing music in public for the first time, and the trials they each faced in adulthood as Willie pursued a songwriting career and Bobbie faced a series of challenging relationships and a musical career that only took off when attitudes about women began to change in Texas"--

Download or read book Had Hoodwinked and Bamboozled willie Lynch is Running Wild in the Democratic Party and He Has the Black Community Just where He Wants Them written by Evang. G. E. McTyre and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2006 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1712, a slave owner from the West Indies, by the name of Willie Lynch, came to Virgina, at the request of slave owners in that state, and others, to teach them how to better control, and get top production out of their black slaves. What Mr. Lynch told them, and the steps he outlined, guaranteed the faithfulness of the slaves to their masters, in all situations. Today, those same principles, are being used by the Democratic party, to keep the black community, beholden to, and trusting only the Democrats. Thus, they have become the very thing they hated centuries ago, slaves, with the Democrats as their masters.

Book Willie Nelson

Download or read book Willie Nelson written by Joe Nick Patoski and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2008-04-21 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From his first performance at age four, Willie Nelson was driven to make music and live life on his own terms. But though he is a songwriter of exceptional depth - "Crazy" was one of his early classics - Willie only found success after abandoning Nashville and moving to Austin, Texas. Red Headed Stranger made country cool to a new generation of fans. Wanted: The Outlaws became the first country album to sell a million copies. And "On the Road Again" became the anthem for Americans on the move. A craggy-faced, pot-smoking philosopher, Willie Nelson is one of America's great iconoclasts and idols. Now Joe Nick Patoski draws on over 100 interviews with Willie and his family, band, and friends to tell Nelson's story, from humble Depression-era roots, to his musical education in Texas honky-tonks and his flirtations with whiskey, women, and weed; from his triumph with #1 hit "Always On My Mind" to his nearly career-ending battles with debt and the IRS; and his ultimate redemption and ascension to American hero

Book Tragic Souls of Love and War

Download or read book Tragic Souls of Love and War written by Jacquelyn Howes and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-09-08 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bellamy Mansion in Wilmington, North Carolina, is the setting of Tragic Souls of Love and War in the pre-Civil War era, during the Civil War, and after the war. The story is heavily based on facts of four strong women: Sarah Sampson, the Bellamy family’s slave cook; Belle Bellamy, the oldest Bellamy daughter; Mrs. Eliza Bellamy, the wife of Dr. John Bellamy; and Harriet Foote Hawley, the wife of Union general Joseph Roswell Hawley. She was an abolitionist and a first cousin of Harriet Beecher Stowe. The mix of these four women and the fictional and extraordinarily charismatic Braxton Scott twist into a story that captures the loves and sorrows of a tragic time in our history that resembles the classic Gone with the Wind and reminds us of the sad reality of inequality that still exists today.

Download or read book Ancient Sunlight written by Peter Rothwell and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-01-13 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout his childhood and adolescence Willie Maddison has always felt himself to be a misfit. He has never known a mother's love nor felt any affection from a father who blames his son for his wife's death in child-birth. The outbreak of war in 1914 gives him the chance to escape the suffocating constraints of his home life and he enlists in the army. It is in the trenches that at last he finds comradeship and a sense of purpose and experiences events that will change his life forever. On Christmas Eve, 1914 a spontaneous truce breaks out along a number of sectors of the front. The guns fall silent and carols can be heard coming from the German trenches. After a time, men from the opposing armies begin to venture forth into No Man's Land. The opportunity is taken to bury the dead and joint services are held. On Christmas day, celebrations are shared, gifts exchanged and games played. Willie is shocked to learn that the German soldiers also believe God to be on their side and realises that were it up to the ordinary soldier the killing would never start again. Commissioned, decorated and eventually demobilised, Willie Maddison finds it difficult to adjust to civilian life and, after a disastrous love-affair, retreats to a derelict cottage on the North Devon coast to make a start on the book that has been burning in him since that fateful Christmas Day and which he hopes will help prevent the pointless sacrifice of another generation. It is not long before his unconventional behaviour and what are judged to be dangerously radical ideas are seen by the 'local establishment' as a threat to good order and when he forms an attachment to a daughter of one of the oldest families a campaign is mounted to drive him out.

Book The Young Wireless Operator With the U S Secret Service

Download or read book The Young Wireless Operator With the U S Secret Service written by Lewis E. Theiss and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-07-21 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It may interest readers of The Young Wireless Operator series to know that most of the happenings in these books are based upon actual occurrences. Years ago, as a reporter, the author wrote for the New York Sun the stories of the auction of bled wool, the cotton-lined cabin, the mystery of the wheat sacks, and other accounts of the work of the United States Secret Service, that appear in this present volume. Although some of the characters in the book are of course fictitious, others, like Sheridan of the Secret Service, are real characters who actually did the things they are portrayed as doing. Of course, names have been changed. The practice of keeping notebooks and clippings that had to do with work the writer was engaged in, has made all this material available for present use and brought it once more freshly to mind. The descriptions of parts of New York and her wonderful waterways are written from intimate, personal knowledge of the places described. In effect, therefore, The Young Wireless Operator—With the U. S. Secret Service is a true story.

Book Three Lives and Tender Buttons

Download or read book Three Lives and Tender Buttons written by Gertrude Stein and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2003-02-04 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three Lives Three short stories comprise Gertrude Stein’s first significant work, each a psychological portrait of a different woman. “The Good Anna” is a kindly but domineering German servant. “The Gentle Lena” apathetically endures her miserable life until she dies in childbirth. “Melanctha” is a young Black woman learning about sexuality and love. Different as they may be, all three women are bound by poverty—and all three face the restrictions of class, race, and sex with resignation. Tender Buttons Stein spoke of maintaining a “continuous present,” comprised of “moments of consciousness,” independent of time and memory. Nowhere is this more clear than in her prose poems Tender Buttons. Their repetitive sentences, juxtaposition of sounds, and simple language connote this continuous presence. To live in this state is “to begin again and again,” to “use everything.” Each of the three sections, “Objects,” “Food,” and “Rooms,” employs both this repetition and disjointed words to build images. Prose poetry at its most abstract expression, Tender Buttons “is to writing…what cubism is to art.” (W.G. Rogers)
