Book excerpt: In Where Are You? A Beginner’s Guide to Advanced Spirituality, Dan Ehrenkrantz leads you on a journey of transformation. Drawing from multiple traditions, the reader finds a spirituality that fits within every religion, and within no religion. Atheists and believers, the faithful and the rebellious, will all experience a taste of enlightenment. There is no dogma to be accepted, no ideas to be believed. Instead, readers are asked to place authority in their own experience. The book is divided into two parts. Part 1 is designed to take you on a journey to spiritual awakening. Part 2 explores life from within the awakened state. Where Are You? explores what it means to live from the enlightened perspective. When we come home to ourselves, we allow others to do the same. Spirituality is not an escape. It’s a prescription for living fully and bringing a loving presence to the world.

Book Case and Aspect in Slavic

Download or read book Case and Aspect in Slavic written by Kylie R. Richardson and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2007-06-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of structural case in syntax is arguably one of the most controversial topics in syntactic theory with important implications for semantic theory. This book focuses on some of the most puzzling case marking patterns in the Slavic languages and ties these patterns to different types of aspectual phenomena, showing that there is after all a pattern in the seeming chaos of case in the Slavic languages. Kylie Richardson addresses links between the case marking on objects and the event structure of a verb phrase in Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Slovak, Polish, and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and also shows that the links between case and aspect in the Slavic languages belong to a much larger pattern found in language in general. She also focuses on links between case and grammatical aspect in depictive, predicative participle, and copular constructions in the East Slavic languages. The book will appeal to scholars and advanced students of aspect, and to all Slavicists.

Book The Syntax of the Be Possessive

Download or read book The Syntax of the Be Possessive written by Hakyung Jung and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2011-05-18 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first attempt to provide a unified account of the be-possessive syntax and its extension to the modal and the perfect constructions in Russian/North Russian within a generative framework. Apparently diverse constructions are construed as deriving from the have/be parameter, which depends on the utilization of the prepositional complementizer with a Case feature. The be-perfect structure provides an adequate environment where ergativity is encoded via verbal nominalization. The relevance of the be-perfect structure for a split ergative pattern shows that the ergative system is a syntactically conditioned phenomenon rather than a purely morphological diversity. This volume also offers the diachronic study of the be-syntax, investigating the evolution of the be-perfect and be-modal constructions, which has rarely been explored within a formal framework. Concrete scenarios are proposed for the developmental paths of the be-perfect and the be-modal constructions, based on textual evidence in old North Russian.

Book Complementation

Download or read book Complementation written by Evelyn N. Ransom and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1986-01-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a stage in the evolution of a theory of modality meanings and forms. It covers exclusively complements. There are two questions that this book addresses. Can one find a small, finite set of meanings which systematically underlies the enormous variety of meanings found in complements? And can one make any predictions from this set of meanings about the variety of forms they take? The answer to both questions is yes. The author convincingly shows how a multiplicity of sentence meanings and forms can be accounted for by breaking down sentence meaning into a small set of modules and howing how these modules combine to express certain meanings and how complement forms are related to them and their combinations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new Jewish spirituality lies somewhere between God's elusive presence in our world and our search for authentic language to describe it. Personal journeys seldom have a clear beginning, and they rarely have a definite end. If there is an end to our journey, surely it is one that leads to some measure of wisdom, and thence back to its own beginning. But somewhere along the way, we come to realize that we must know where we have been going, why we have been going. Most of all, we come to understand as best we can the One who sends us on our way. —from the Introduction Rabbi Arthur Green leads us on a journey of discovery to seek God, the world, and ourselves. One of the most influential Jewish thinkers of our time, Green has created a roadmap of meaning for our lives in the light of Jewish mysticism, using the Hebrew letters that make up the divine name: Yod— Reality at the beginning. God as the oneness of being at the outset, before it unfolds into our universe. Heh— Creation and God’s presence in the world. A renewed faith in God as Creator has powerful implications for us today. Vav— Revelation, the central faith claim of Judaism and the claim it makes on our lives. Heh— Redemption and our return to God through the life of Torah and by participating in the ongoing repair of the world. A personal and honest framework of understanding for the seeker, this revised and updated edition of a classic sheds new light on our search for the divine presence in our everyday lives.
