Book Documents on the Arab Israeli Conflict

Download or read book Documents on the Arab Israeli Conflict written by M Cherif Bassiouni and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2023-04-17 with total page 1259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive compilation of some 595 documents on the Arab-Israeli conflict and a variety of related issues includes all the materials the researcher, analyst, and student of this conflict and region needs in a single text, from the years 1897 to 2003. Documents are listed in chronological order because many documents refer to more than one subject. They are, however, identified in the introduction according to subject matter. When different aspects recurred in a number of UN resolutions, only the main document is included, while others are referred to. The compilation is not only about Palestinian issues. It includes all relevant documents between Arab states and Israel, from the armistice agreements (1949), to the peace treaties with Egypt (1979) and Jordan (1994), as well as their protocols and other documents that derive from these treaties. The subject-matter content is as varied as the legal and political issues presented by this conflict. It includes geographical boundaries, refugees, water rights, regional security, elimination of weapons of mass destruction, and, of course, human rights and peace. Published under the Transnational Publishers imprint. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9781571052902).

Book The Case for Palestine

Download or read book The Case for Palestine written by John B. Quigley and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Quigley brings a necessary international law perspective to bear on the seemingly intractable Israeli-Palestinian conflict in this updated edition of his important book. Since 2000, the cycle of bloodshed and retribution has spiraled increasingly out of control. Quigley attributes the breakdown of negotiations in 2000 to Israel's unwillingness to negotiate on the basis of principles of justice and law. He argues that throughout the last century, established tenets of international law--and particularly the right of self-determination--have been overlooked or ignored in favor of the Zionists and then the Israelis, to the detriment of the Palestinians. In this volume, Quigley provides a thorough understanding of both sides of the conflict in the context of international law. He contends that the Palestinians have a stronger legal claim to Jerusalem than do the Israelis; that Palestinian refugees should be repatriated to areas including those within the borders of Israel; and that Israel should withdraw from the territory it occupied in 1967. As in his earlier volume, Quigley provides an extensively documented evaluation of the conflict over the last century, discussing the Zionist movement, the League of Nations' decision to promote a Jewish homeland in Palestine, the 1948 war and creation of Israel, and Israel's occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Golan Heights during the 1967 war.
