Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radioisotopes are widely used in the medical field for imaging and therapy of diseases by themselves or by tagging with other molecules that have the potential to target diseased cells. In imaging protocol, the radioisotope, such as technetium-99m or indium-111, decays through ?-radiation emissions, which are located by a scintigraphic camera (SPECT or PET) in the form of 2/3D image formation of the diseased organ. The other kind of radioisotopes, such as Lutetium-177 or Actinium-225, are those that decay through ?/?-decay, which is due to its valuable linear energy transfer that is in clinical use to eliminate diseased cells. This book will cover valuable information about selected diagnostic and therapeutic radioisotopes along with localization mechanisms of radioisotopes directly or through nanoparticles at diseased cells.

Most of them, if not all, had to overcome economic hardships or p[ersonal tragedies or had to do their groundbreaking work in the face of tyranny and war. The biographies also highlighted the high standards of moral convictions that the scientists had as they realized the grave implications of some of their work and the potential threats to humanity. This ought to inspire and motivate young men and women aspiring to be physicists. Even people who have been in the field for a while should find your book re-energizing. It certainly had that effect on me." -- Dr. Ramkumar Venkataraman, Canberra Industries, Inc., Meriden, CT, USA Winner of an Honorable Mention in the 2017 PROSE Awards in the category of Chemistry and Physics (https://proseawards.com/winners/2017-award-winners/ ) - Includes new content that explains the vital benefits that nuclear technology provides and the need to be aware and involved in worldwide efforts toward the reduction of nuclear weapon stockpiles and the elimination of the threat of nuclear weapons - Provides context and insights on key research over the past three centuries, placing radioactivity in real-world contexts - Supports learning via multiple solved problems that answer practical questions concerning nuclear decay, nuclear radiation and the interaction of nuclear radiation with matter

  • ISBN : 3319677209
  • Pages : 456 pages

Download or read book Radionanomedicine written by Dong Soo Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-25 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes radionanomedicine as an integrated medicine using exogenous and endogenous This book describes radionanomedicine as an integrated approach that uses exogenous and endogenous nanomaterials for in vivo and human applications. It comprehensively explains radionanomedicine comprising nuclear and nanomedicine, demonstrating that it is more than radionanodrugs and that radionanomedicine also takes advantage of nuclear medicine using trace technology, in which miniscule amounts of materials and tracer kinetic elucidate in vivo biodistribution. It also discusses exogenous nanomaterials such as inorganic silica, iron oxide, upconversion nanoparticles and quantum dots or organic liposomes labelled with radioisotopes, and radionanomaterials used for targeted delivery and imaging for theranostic purposes. Further, it examines endogenous nanomaterials i.e. extracellular vesicles labelled with radioisotopes, known as radiolabelled extracellular vesicles, as well as positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), which elucidate the biodistribution and potential for therapeutic success.
