Book Advances in Molecular Genetics of Plant Microbe Interactions Vol 1

Download or read book Advances in Molecular Genetics of Plant Microbe Interactions Vol 1 written by H. Hennecke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on the interaction between plants and microbes has attracted considerable attention in recent years. The use of modem genetic techniques has now made possible a detailed analysis both of plant and of microbial genes involved in phytopathogenic and beneficial interactions. At the biochemical level, signal molecules and their receptors, either of plant or of microbial origins, have been detected which act in signal transduction pathways or as co-regulators of gene expression. We begin to understand the molecular basis of classical concepts such as gene-for-gene relationships, hypersensitive response, induced resistance, to name just a few. We realize, and will soon exploit, the tremendous potential of the results of this research for practical application, in particular to protect crop plants against diseases and to increase crop yield and quality. This exclung field of research, which is also of truly interdisciplinary nature, is expanding rapidly. A Symposium series has been devoted to it which began in 1982. Recently, the 5th International Symposium on the Molecular Genetics of Plant-Microbe Interactions was held in Interlaken, Switzerland. It brought together 640 scientists from almost 30 different countries who reported their latest research progress in 47 lectures, 10 short oral presentations, and on over 400 high-quality posters. This book presents a collection of papers that comprehensively reflect the major areas under study, explain novel experimental approaches currently in use, highlight significant advances made over the last one or two years but also emphasize the obstacles still ahead of us.

Book The Chemistry and Metabolism of 4 Deoxypyridoxine

Download or read book The Chemistry and Metabolism of 4 Deoxypyridoxine written by Stephen P. Coburn and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This review organizes the existing literature on deoxypyridoxine in order to provide additional insights for developing further work. By providing a thorough analysis of previous work with deoxypyridoxine, it can be used more effectively as a tool for examining various metabolic pathways and explored further for its potential clinical use in cancer therapy, immunosuppression, or other areas. The book also stimulate some new insights into action of vitamin B6 itself.

Book Mechanism of Action of Antibacterial Agents

Download or read book Mechanism of Action of Antibacterial Agents written by Fred E. Hahn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of Antibiotics was published in 1967 and contained a series of review papers on antibiotic actions. The editors, Drs. GOTTLIEB and SHAW, were aware of the rapid development of this field of study and provided a number of addenda in an effort to keep knowledge up to date while the book was in production. One year after the publication of Antibiotics I, this editor had a conference with Dr. KONRAD F. SPRINGER in which it became clear that another volume on actions of antibiotics would be necessary. For a variety of reasons, this was delayed until 1975 and became Antibiotics III. It did not contain addenda since it was recognized by the editors, Drs. CORCORAN and HAHN, that still another volume would have to follow and that in a moving field, such as the study of the actions of antibacterial drugs, no publication can be definitive or remain current, except for a limited period of time. The editors of Volume III grouped the contributions into sections: 1. Inter ference with nucleic acid biosyntheses, 2. Interference with protein biosynthesis, and 3. Interference with cell wall/membrane biosynthesis, specific enzyme sys tems, and those in which the mode of action was not known with certainty.

Book excerpt: Medicinal Chemistry: Lipid Pharmacology, Volume 2 focuses on the effects of drugs on lipid metabolism. This book explores the methodology in lipid chemistry by which transport and release mechanisms can be investigated very effectively by the use of drugs. Organized into 12 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the total lipid fraction that can be isolated from tissues by any one of many solvent extraction procedures. This text then defines atherosclerosis disease and explores the studies in experimental atherosclerosis, which are designed to better understand the progression of this disease in humans. Other chapters discuss the inhibitors of cholesterol biosynthesis and examine the pathways involved in the synthesis of other classes of lipids. This book describes as well all drugs known to influence steroid metabolism in humans and other mammals. The final chapter deals with the biological activity of a substance, which is determined by several factors. Chemists, biochemists, and pharmacologists will find this book extremely useful.
