Book Higher Multiplicities and Almost Free Divisors and Complete Intersections

Download or read book Higher Multiplicities and Almost Free Divisors and Complete Intersections written by James Damon and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost free divisors and complete intersections form a general class of nonisolated hypersurface and completer intersection singularities. They also include discriminants of mappings, bifurcation sets, and certain types of arrangements of hyperplanes such as Coxeter arrangements and generic arrangements. Associated to the singularities of this class is a "singular Milnor fibration" which has the same homotopy properties as the Milnor fibration for isolated singularities. This memoir deduces topological properties of singularities in a number of situations including: complements of hyperplane arrangements, various nonisolated complete intersections, nonlinear arrangements of hypersurfaces, functions on discriminants, singularities defined by compositions of functions, and bifurcation sets.

Book Singularities in Geometry and Topology

Download or read book Singularities in Geometry and Topology written by Jean-Paul Brasselet and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 918 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Singularity theory appears in numerous branches of mathematics, as well as in many emerging areas such as robotics, control theory, imaging, and various evolving areas in physics. The purpose of this proceedings volume is to cover recent developments in singularity theory and to introduce young researchers from developing countries to singularities in geometry and topology. The contributions discuss singularities in both complex and real geometry. As such, they provide a natural continuation of the previous school on singularities held at ICTP (1991), which is recognized as having had a major influence in the field.

Book Handbook of Geometry and Topology of Singularities I

Download or read book Handbook of Geometry and Topology of Singularities I written by José Luis Cisneros Molina and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-24 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of ten articles which provide an in-depth and reader-friendly survey of some of the foundational aspects of singularity theory. Authored by world experts, the various contributions deal with both classical material and modern developments, covering a wide range of topics which are linked to each other in fundamental ways. Singularities are ubiquitous in mathematics and science in general. Singularity theory interacts energetically with the rest of mathematics, acting as a crucible where different types of mathematical problems interact, surprising connections are born and simple questions lead to ideas which resonate in other parts of the subject. This is the first volume in a series which aims to provide an accessible account of the state-of-the-art of the subject, its frontiers, and its interactions with other areas of research. The book is addressed to graduate students and newcomers to the theory, as well as to specialists who can use it as a guidebook.

Book Handbook of Geometry and Topology of Singularities IV

Download or read book Handbook of Geometry and Topology of Singularities IV written by José Luis Cisneros-Molina and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth volume of the Handbook of Geometry and Topology of Singularities, a series that aims to provide an accessible account of the state of the art of the subject, its frontiers, and its interactions with other areas of research. This volume consists of twelve chapters which provide an in-depth and reader-friendly survey of various important aspects of singularity theory. Some of these complement topics previously explored in volumes I to III. Amongst the topics studied in this volume are the Nash blow up, the space of arcs in algebraic varieties, determinantal singularities, Lipschitz geometry, indices of vector fields and 1-forms, motivic characteristic classes, the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity and comparison theorems that spring from the classical De Rham complex. Singularities are ubiquitous in mathematics and science in general. Singularity theory is a crucible where different types of mathematical problems interact, surprising connections are born and simple questions lead to ideas which resonate in other subjects. Authored by world experts, the various contributions deal with both classical material and modern developments, covering a wide range of topics which are linked to each other in fundamental ways. The book is addressed to graduate students and newcomers to the theory, as well as to specialists who can use it as a guidebook.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume is a collection of papers presented at the 11th International Workshop on Real and Complex Singularities, held July 26-30, 2010, in Sao Carlos, Brazil, in honor of David Mond's 60th birthday. This volume reflects the high level of the conference discussing the most recent results and applications of singularity theory. Articles in the first part cover pure singularity theory: invariants, classification theory, and Milnor fibres. Articles in the second part cover singularities in topology and differential geometry, as well as algebraic geometry and bifurcation theory: Artin-Greenberg function of a plane curve singularity, metric theory of singularities, symplectic singularities, cobordisms of fold maps, Goursat distributions, sections of analytic varieties, Vassiliev invariants, projections of hypersurfaces, and linearity of the Jacobian ideal."--P. Book Vector Fields on Singular Varieties

Download or read book Vector Fields on Singular Varieties written by Jean-Paul Brasselet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-17 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vector fields on manifolds play a major role in mathematics and other sciences. In particular, the Poincaré-Hopf index theorem gives rise to the theory of Chern classes, key manifold-invariants in geometry and topology. It is natural to ask what is the ‘good’ notion of the index of a vector field, and of Chern classes, if the underlying space becomes singular. The question has been explored by several authors resulting in various answers, starting with the pioneering work of M.-H. Schwartz and R. MacPherson. We present these notions in the framework of the obstruction theory and the Chern-Weil theory. The interplay between these two methods is one of the main features of the monograph.

Book Singularity Theory and its Applications

Download or read book Singularity Theory and its Applications written by David Mond and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A workshop on Singularities, Bifurcation and Dynamics was held at Warwick in July 1989 as part of a year-long symposium on Singularity Theory and its applications. The proceedings fall into two halves: Volume I mainly on connections with algebraic geometry and volume II on connections with dynamical systems theory, bifurcation theory, and applications in the sciences. The papers are orginal research, stimulated by the symposium and workshops: All have been refereed, and none will appear elsewhere. The main topic, deformation theory, is represented by several papers on descriptions of the bases of versal deformations, and several more on descriptions of the generic fibres. Other topics include stratifications, and applications to differential geometry.

Book New Developments in Singularity Theory

Download or read book New Developments in Singularity Theory written by Dirk Wiersma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Singularities arise naturally in a huge number of different areas of mathematics and science. As a consequence, singularity theory lies at the crossroads of paths that connect many of the most important areas of applications of mathematics with some of its most abstract regions. The main goal in most problems of singularity theory is to understand the dependence of some objects of analysis, geometry, physics, or other science (functions, varieties, mappings, vector or tensor fields, differential equations, models, etc.) on parameters. The articles collected here can be grouped under three headings. (A) Singularities of real maps; (B) Singular complex variables; and (C) Singularities of homomorphic maps.
