The folktales are transcribed from Isoko language into English language for better understanding while some words that are onomatopoeic are left in order to maintain their linguistic potency. The folktales' songs are notated and analyzed contextually. The musical instruments in Isoko culture are also described in their classifications and usage. An upgrade from pentatonic scale to a chromatic scale with a constructive instruction on the Isoko people's xylophone (ekpokro-ile) which is getting extinct is made. The playing technique of the improved ekpokro-ile is pedagogically written in this book. It is hoped that the folktales and musical themes in this book would attract the attention of composers, playwrights and artistic directors which could form a basis for their compositions and performances. African music technologists should be challenged to intensify their efforts at the standardization of the numerous African musical instruments using our theoretical model as paradigm.

Art from Trauma: Genocide and Healing beyond Rwanda explores the possibility of art as therapeutic, capable of implementation by mental health practitioners crafting mental health policy in Rwanda. This anthology of scholarly, personal, and hybrid essays was inspired by scholar and activist Chantal Kalisa (1965–2015). At the commemoration of the nineteenth anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda, organized by the Rwandan Embassy in Washington DC, Kalisa gave a presentation, “Who Speaks for the Survivors of the Genocide against Tutsi?” Kalisa devoted her energy to giving expression to those whose voices had been distorted or silenced. The essays in this anthology address how the production and experience of visual, dramatic, cinematic, and musical arts, in addition to literary arts, contribute to healing from the trauma of mass violence, offering preliminary responses to questions like Kalisa’s and honoring her by continuing the dialogue in which she participated with such passion, sharing the work of scholars and colleagues in genocide studies, gender studies, and francophone literatures.

These challenges are not particular to particular homes, whether one is of the parents of Isoko enthusiast like mine, or is of Diaspora Isoko minor speakers, the challenge to instil the Isoko values and language of the children is the same. This work is an aspect to make Isoko a little more appealing to the children, by adding graphics and English interpretations to Isoko words, particularly nouns that the pictures are feelable, sizeable and touchable. The every day things, house equipment, Kitchen tools and those instruments that the children use every day.
