Book Is the Bible Trustworthy Classic Reprint

Download or read book Is the Bible Trustworthy Classic Reprint written by William P. Swartz and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Is the Bible Trustworthy? There is, however, presented to us a more serious challenge. It is the chal lenge of students who claim to havefound in the Bible errors which must have been in the original manuscripts; errors, which it must be acknowledged are due to the ignorance of the writers, and which science, or right history, or personal experience has undeniably shown, are not in harmony with the facts. This is the contest which we must now meet. It is a battle for the authority of the Word of God. It is not denied by the Christian or the critic, that many variations have found their way into the different manuscripts during the centuries; a word or a figure incorrect, sometimes a marginal note, which an annotator may have written, has crept into the text of subsequent copies. But apart from such errors, not one of which by the way effects in the slightest degree any of the essential or saving truths, the Christian church has taken the Word of God as it has come down through the ages, and has called it, as did Christ, the truth, infallible, the only infallible rule of faith and conduct. Book Why Catholic Bibles Are Bigger

Download or read book Why Catholic Bibles Are Bigger written by Gary Michuta and published by Catholic Answers Press. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some differences between Catholicism and Protestantism can be tricky to grasp, but one of them just requires the ability to count: Catholic bibles have seventy-three books, whereas Protestant bibles have sixty-sis - plus an appendix with the strange title Apocrypha. What's the story here? Protestants claim that the medieval Catholic Church added six extra books that had never been considered part of the Old Testament, either by Jews or early Christians. Catholics say that the Protestant Reformers removed those books, long considered part of Sacred Scripture, because they didn't like what they contained. In Why Catholic Bibles Are Bigger, Gary Michuta presents a revised and expanded version of his authoritative work on this key issue. Combing the historical record from pre-Christian times to the Patristic era to the Reformation and its aftermath, he traces the canon controversy through the writings and actions of its major players.

Book Is the Bible Scientifically Correct Classic Reprint

Download or read book Is the Bible Scientifically Correct Classic Reprint written by Frederick Erdman and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Is the Bible Scientifically Correct? All through the Bible, there are frequent statements involving a number of the sciences. If these statements are true according to modern science, it proves that the Bible is not only scientifically correct, but that it repeatedly anticipates modern science by 2,000 to 3,500 years. 1. The Bible is Archeologically and Historically Correct. "History lies at the root of all science" (Carlyle). The historical accuracy of the Bible has been confirmed in a multitude of instances whenever any reliable profane records have been found. This has been true, even "in many instances which were formerly, for lack of information, regarded as difficult or suspicious" (W. J. Beecher). "The almost universal inaccuracy and unreliability of the Greek and Arab historians with reference to the kings of Egypt, Assyria, and Babylonia is in glaring contrast with the exactness and trustworthiness of the Hebrew Bible" (R. D. Wilson). Even as far back as Genesis 14, this accuracy has been confirmed. The names of kings with whom Abraham fought have been found among the inscriptions. In its lists of the names of the kings of Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Damascus, Tyre, Moab, Greece, and Rome, the Bible has proved to be correct in time, order, and orthography. If the Old Testament writers were so accurate in spelling the names even of heathen kings, they logically should be trusted in other respects. Book The Jefferson Bible

Download or read book The Jefferson Bible written by Thomas Jefferson and published by Wyatt North Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2014-01-05 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jefferson Bible, or The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth as it is formally titled, was a book constructed by Thomas Jefferson in the latter years of his life by cutting and pasting numerous sections from various Bibles as extractions of the doctrine of Jesus. Jefferson's composition excluded sections of the New Testament containing supernatural aspects as well as perceived misinterpretations he believed had been added by the Four Evangelists. In 1895, the Smithsonian Institution under the leadership of librarian Cyrus Adler purchased the original Jefferson Bible from Jefferson's great-granddaughter Carolina Randolph for $400. A conservation effort commencing in 2009, in partnership with the museum's Political History department, allowed for a public unveiling in an exhibit open from November 11, 2011, through May 28, 2012, at the National Museum of American History.

Book The David Story A Translation with Commentary of 1 and 2 Samuel

This book was released on 2009-10-21 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A masterpiece of contemporary Bible translation and commentary."—Los Angeles Times Book Review, Best Books of 1999 Acclaimed for its masterful new translation and insightful commentary, The David Story is a fresh, vivid rendition of one of the great works in Western literature. Robert Alter's brilliant translation gives us David, the beautiful, musical hero who slays Goliath and, through his struggles with Saul, advances to the kingship of Israel. But this David is also fully human: an ambitious, calculating man who navigates his life's course with a flawed moral vision. The consequences for him, his family, and his nation are tragic and bloody. Historical personage and full-blooded imagining, David is the creation of a literary artist comparable to the Shakespeare of the history plays.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of Books: A Study of the Bible The modest aim of this book is that of setting forth a. Point of view; and the writer has tried to avoid the appearance of an erudition which he cannot claim. Much of his matter, especially for Chapters II and IX, has been derived of necessity at second-hand, though always, he hopes, from trustworthy sources. But he has endeavoured to work as far as possible with no book except the Bible before him, and to burden the pages with few references except those indicating the scriptural passages concerned. For the point of View which he fain would bring before the reader is that of one who, with instincts preponderatingly traditional, practical, and devotional, has allowed the leaven of the 'new Learn ing' to work in his mind, believing that there is much that is true in it, and that all truth comes down from the 'father of Lights.' His endeavour is, in fact, to show, with as little technicality as possible, what the Bible, in its manifold aspects, looks like to-day to one who, for many years, has turned over its pages, and has, never lost, with changing times, his first love and reverence for its teachings. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Is the Bible Worth Reading: And Other Essays That depends. If a man is going to get his living by standing in a Christian pulpit, I should be obliged to answer, Yes! But if he is going to follow any other calling, or work at any trade, I should have to answer, No! There is absolutely no information in the Bible that man can make any use of as he goes through life. The Bible is not a book of knowledge. It does not give instruction in any of the sciences. It furnishes no help to labor. It is useless as a political guide. There is nothing in it that gives the mechanic any hint, or affords the farmer any enlightenment in his occupation. If man wishes to learn about the earth or the heavens; about life or the animal kingdom, he has no need to study the Bible. If he is desirous of reading the best poetry or the most entertaining literature he will not find it in the Bible. If he wants to read to store his mind with facts, the Bible is the last book for him to open, for never yet was a volume written that contained fewer facts than this book. If he is anxious to get some information that will help him earn an honest living he does not want to spend his time reading Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Kings, Psalms, or the Gospels.
