Along some such line as that we propose to set forth the evidence - so far as that can be done within strict limits - that the Bible is the lord of God. In reply to the ques tion before us, we give a threefold answer, namely, It Seems to Be; It Claims to Be; and, It Proves to Be. The conclusiveness Of the evidence is not in any one Of these an swers taken by itself, but in the three to gether, which constitute irrefragable proof that the Bible is of divine origin, and there fore Of sovereign authority; that is, that it is the W ord of God. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Is the Bible the Word of God?: Yes We venture to send out the following essays, articles, and sermons because we think they will supply some of the religious wants of the religious people of our day. If it be said that each of the subjects discussed has been explained and discussed before, we make reply, that the same may be said of every religious subject. And yet much remains to be explained, and there are calls for sermons and lectures and books on the most discussed subjects from many directions. The reasons are not far to see. The world of thought and knowledge is developing every day, new fields are opening, and information respecting their bounds and limits and products are needed by the public, and are asked for by it. Book The Bible That Was Lost and Is Found Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Bible That Was Lost and Is Found Classic Reprint written by John Bigelow and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible That Was Lost, and Is Found It was in the spring of 191 I that I went to Mr. Bige low and asked him, for the sake of the good that might be accomplished, to allow me to edit this present volume. I urged that at the time when the tercentenary of the Authorized Version of our English Bible was being celebrated, it was peculiarly fitting that he should make public his testimony as to how the Bible had been established for him as the veritable Word of God. He listened to me patiently as I tried to persuade him that the narration of his religious experiences might be helpful to many outside of his own immediate circle of friends. He was unfeignedly modest on this point, but he promised to consider the matter. A few days later he wrote that he felt he had no right to withhold anything that might prove useful, and that he would leave the matter entirely in my hands. He sent me a copy of his Bible That Was Lost and Is Found, in which he had indicated changes and additions that should be made, and with it a large number of letters from friends who had received copies of the original edition. In his characteristic way he said that he felt I was entitled to any assistance he could place at my disposal, inasmuch as I was willing to act as a midwife in the birth of this new progeny. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Biblical Epochs We are finding that the old Bible is ours; that its truthfulness is confirmed and authenticated by the results of discovery and scholarship. More and more it is proved to be our own bible - the one Sacred Book of the world. Its words, sound ing down all the centuries, freighted with the joys and griefs and exultant hopes and victories of saints through the past millenniums, vocal ever with the songs of angels, and full of the expression of the Son of God, are proved to be the very Word of God. The Bible is the stronghold of Chris tianity. All antagonisms smite at it, would gladly destroy it. It stands impregnable, the same old Bible, with the memory of the dead in it, with the warm love of childhood in it with the woe of our trials reverberating in its melancholy experience, and the joys of our better days ringing in its psalms and prophecies, like chimes of musical bells above the lower life. Its voices are like choice music which one cannot forget; its prom ises are like faces that ever beam upon us in their remembered expression; it is like a life within our life, warming and refreshing and invigor ating us.
