Book Death the Gate of Life Mors Janua Vitae

Download or read book Death the Gate of Life Mors Janua Vitae written by H. A. Dallas and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-26 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Death, the Gate of Life? (Mors Janua Vitae?): A Discussion of Certain Communications Purporting to Come From Frederic W. H. Myers The author has asked me to say a few words by way of introduction to this little book. I shall, indeed, be glad if any word of mine will help to commend it to the reader. Miss Dallas has long been known to me as an earnest and critical student of psychical phenomena. Her knowledge of this subject is exceptionally wide, and her judgment sane and well informed. In the present volume she has dealt in an interesting and succinct manner with one fragment of the evidence that is slowly accumulating on behalf of survival after death. The service which she has thus rendered is considerable. Few people have the time or patience to read through, and carefully consider, the lengthy, detailed, and therefore often wearisome, re ports published by the Society for Psychical Research. Hence, whilst the interest in this subject is spreading throughout the Western world with astonishing rapidity, the well in formed are few and far between. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life and Death But that volume must be subjected to the equal laws of interpretation by which we ascertain the meaning of the words of other authors addressing us from ancient times, and in languages long since dead. Regardless of that tribunal, we are, to all intents and purposes, without a revelation in hu man language; and, still worse, we never can have one. It is absolutely essential to the very idea of a Divine communication in the form of a revela tion, that its words and sentences be understood according to their usual sense at the time in which that communication was made, and amongst the people to whom it was addressed, and to whose care it was committed. Since the apparel of thought changes as the apparel of our persons and words, in the lapse of time vary from their original and primitive meaning, a very strict re gard must always be had to their received accepta tion and sense in the age and country in which they were employed as the vehicle of a Divine revelation. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Book of Life and Death I am asked to write a "foreward" Fred Grantham's book. I feel ill qualified to do it, but thirty years ago he was a friend of mine at Cambridge, and in 1915 we met again in France, and I was in the line just south of him when, as a captain in the Munster Fusiliers, he gave his life for his country and found an unknown grave on the battlefield of Festubert. He was the second son of the late Mr. Justice Grantham, and went to Harrow and then to Trinity College, Cambridge. Whilst at Cambridge his mind was greatly taken by the many noble and Christian ideals which he found in the teaching of Confucius and Buddha, the Brahmins and the Koran; and soon after his call to the Bar he went out to practise in the East, largely, I think, in order to gain a better opportunity to judge of those ideals among their votaries; and, as he says, to study different customs in many countries. During the whole course of my illness I felt as if chained by a thousand fetters to a hollow wall, which caused me torture. Little by little the wall released me, my sufferings decreased, the fetters loosened and fell apart. During the last two days I was held by a piece of tape, which now also was torn off, and I felt a sense of lightness, such as I had never before experienced. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Light of Life: The Mastery of Death "The Light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not." For the past two thousand years at least, the world may be said to have been in a condition of mental and spiritual darkness. This period, or the earlier part of it, is called the Dark Age. The history of this age, distinguished by nothing so much as mans inhumanity to man, is familiar to all, and needs no recapitulation. A few pessimists of the present proclaim that the age of darkness is by no means at an end, and some are wont to predict even a darker age to follow, but the consciousness of the optimistic majority is awakening responsive to the Dawn that is surely breaking over the world, repudiating such pessimistic prognostications as reactionary and retrogressive. We have but to take the mental and moral conditions of two hundred, or even a hundred, years ago and compare them with the conditions of today to become conscious of this wonderful illumination and its many revelations. And what is this New Light that is thus suffusing the earth, working all these wondrous changes, and transforming the world and its ways? It is the same Light that shone in the darkness of the past, but which the shadowed mind of man was unable then to perceive, or to utilize. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life Beyond Death One of the questions most frequently asked the teachers of the Wisdom of the East is this: What do you teach regarding 'the other Side' of the river of death? To the trained and developed occultist, this ques tion never seems to lose its strangeness. To such, it would seem as the question: What do you teach regarding the 'other side' of the street? Would seem to the ordinary man on the street. The latter would naturally feel surprised that there should be any question of teaching on the subject, for the inquirer would have but to use his own eyes to obtain the answer to his query. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life in the Great Beyond: Or the Law of Life and Death In giving the following record of life beyond the grave, I shall endeavor to give it exactly as it was revealed to me by one who passed beyond this vale of tears several years ago. The person referred to was, for many years before his release from this earth, in close communion with me and we were in perfect harmony of both mind and spirit. So closely did our minds accord that either bad but to think and mentally express a wish and the other recognized it and responded. We both felt satisfied that the truth regarding the after life had never been told, that it is barely imagined by the few and that the vast multitude are in absolute ignorance of what awaits them beyond the border.
