Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United Church of Christ was not the first to occupy the building that sits on Titus Avenue Across from the House of Guitars. It began as the home of the women's suffragettes and people like Susan B Anthony and her sister at one time graced its halls. When it began it's transition to a church, it was the congregational church that worshiped in its sanctuary. This later would become the United Church of Christ. So much has taken place in this building that had several additions added on to it over the years. From the changes on the outside, other changes would take place inside to help keep the building going. It's size is massive as well as it's history that is so embedded in the community of Irondequoit. Even the wall painting of Christ that appears behind the podium has its own interesting story. In this building you feel the presence of those who came before and you feel the presence of God. It is a place to worship and a place that we need to preserve for all generations to experience.

Book The Perpetual Pivot

Download or read book The Perpetual Pivot written by Susan Cartmell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of unsung heroes: the clergy, in so many churches, who quietly changed the world they knew and reimagined their roles in order to lead their people, and their communities, during an international crisis. As the COVID-19 pandemic held everyone in its grip, these authors asked what happened to the church. How did churches cope? When people could not crowd into sanctuaries or share rituals in person or listen to choirs sing, how did the clergy reinvent worship online? When clergy were restricted from the hospitals where they were accustomed to visiting the sick and comforting the dying, how did they reach people? When the pandemic exposed new needs for food and clothing and racial justice in many communities, how did religious leaders respond? The authors interviewed fifty-three clergy from Cape Cod to Alaska asking them questions about how the pandemic challenged them and changed their churches. This book is full of stories about the sacrifices they made and the heroism they displayed, as well as the lessons the clergy learned—lessons that will shape the future of faith.

The story begins with Michael appearing at the age of 5 years old to the artist, Taylor Bouchand who doesn't know what to make of him or what to do with him. When she asks the child where are his parents, he says, "No one is ready for me" and thus begins her association with this little boy, Michael who grows at an alarming speed through childhood. To add to the confusion, Taylor will find that what she thought she knew about her parents was not exactly true and this new knowledge goes a long way in explaining why Michael appeared to her.

Book Treasure Hunting

Download or read book Treasure Hunting written by Howard S. Fuller and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-04-04 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story of a boy growing up in a Boston suburb near where his ancestors had settled three centuries before. He attends elite private schools and Union Theological Seminary, training to be a Protestant pastor. He marries Annette and they raise four children in suburban Rochester and the inner-city neighborhoods of Buffalo, New York. They help Saul Alinsky create a mass-based community organization to empower the dispossessed. Annette teaches social work at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Always moving West, they settle in Berkeley, California. They lose their political innocence during the Vietnam War, join a commune and are blind-sided by the power of cults. The family backpacks every summer in the Sierra Nevada. Annette teaches in the University of California School of Public Health. Howard, trained now as a sociologist of religion, advises groups planning to begin new churches in West Coast suburbs. Through meditation, creative use of their imagination, and workshops at Esalen, they explore aspects of themselves that had been cut off by their East Coast upbringing. They move to Benicia, California, where Annette blocks the railroad tracks over which munitions trains pass; Howard has a compelling dream of descent into the Void. After his ten-year pastorate, they retire to Claremont, California, where Annette dies in 1997.
