Book Imaging in Sports Specific Musculoskeletal Injuries

Download or read book Imaging in Sports Specific Musculoskeletal Injuries written by Ali Guermazi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-11 with total page 819 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most books on imaging in sports medicine are concerned with the particular joints or anatomy involved in sports-related injuries. This book, however, takes a different perspective by looking at injuries that are associated with specific sports. All of the well-known major sports, such as football, tennis, and basketball, are included, as are many less common but still very popular sports, such as baseball, American football, and rugby. The chapters on sports-specific injuries are preceded by two chapters on the perspective of clinicians and another two chapters on the general use of MR imaging and ultrasound in sports medicine. The authors of the book are world-renowned experts from five continents. Imaging in Sports-Specific Musculoskeletal Injuries should be of great interest to radiologists, sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and rehabilitation physicians, and to anyone interested in the treatment of sports-related injuries.

Book Imaging of Bone Tumors and Tumor Like Lesions

Download or read book Imaging of Bone Tumors and Tumor Like Lesions written by A. Mark Davies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-21 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detection and characterization of bone tumors with imaging remains a big challenge for every radiologist notwithstanding the impressive progress achieved by the introduction of several new imaging modalities. Moreover, new concepts in surgical and oncological treatment of these lesions require from the radiologist appropriate and focused answers to the specifc questions asked by the referring physicians in order to choose the best therapeutic approach for the in- vidual patient. Tis comprehensive textbook describes in detail the possibilities and limits of all moda- ties, including MRI, CT, nuclear medicine and interventional radiological procedures, employed for the modern imaging of tumoral and tumor-like lesions of bone. Teir role in the diagnosis, surgical staging, biopsy and assessment of response to therapy is discussed in detail, covering all tumor subtypes as well as their specifc anatomical location.Well selected and technically imp- cable illustrations strongly enhance the didactic value of this work. I am very much indebted and grateful to the three editors: A. Mark Davies, Murali Sundaram and Steven L. J. James, world authorities in musculoskeletal radiology, for their superb scientifc achievement in preparing and editing this wonderful volume as well as for their individual ch- ters. I would also like to thank the large international group of collaborating authors, who are also widely acknowledged for their specifc expertise in the area of bone tumors, for their outstanding contributions.

  • Publisher : OUP Oxford
  • Release : 2010-03-18
  • ISBN : 0191575275
  • Pages : 478 pages

Download or read book Musculoskeletal Imaging written by Philip G. Conaghan and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2010-03-18 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diseases of the joints and surrounding tissues cannot be visualised without the help of imaging techniques. These range from x-rays (which have been available for over 100 years) to the highly sophisticated magnetic resonance imaging scanning. The variety of imaging techniques and indeed the quality of these images has improved radically in the past decade and this book attempts to capture the way in which rheumatologists and their colleagues can use a wide variety of techniques to analyse musculoskeletal diseases which are known to exist. This handbook provides the reader with an insight into both which imaging techniques should be applied to particular clinical problems and how the results can be used to determine the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions. It is extensively illustrated with examples of the various imaging techniques and joints to aid understanding, and is organised by anatomical region and specific musculoskeletal disorder to allow easy access to information.

Book Algodystrophy

    Book Details:
  • Author : P. Doury
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642679897
  • Pages : 388 pages

Download or read book Algodystrophy written by P. Doury and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is with great pleasure and ,much interest that I accepted to write the foreword to this book by Paul Doury, Yves Dirheimer, and Serge Pattin on the subject of "algodystrophy." First, because I know the extent of their personal experience, from which they have selected the best for this book. Second, because it seemed to me that their detailed analysis of the numerous works on the subject, works which have been published all over the world and which provide diverse physiopathologic interpretations, would provide a comprehensive study meeting a real need. Algodystrophy, to adopt the term used by the authors, merits rheumatolog ists' careful attention. It is indeed a frequent condition and, as is now well known, occurs in the most varied etiologic circumstances; it is not solely posttraumatic, a notion on which diagnosis had long been based. This variable etiology suggests the complexity of algodystrophy's pathogenic mechanism.

Book Computational Biomechanics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kozaburo Hayashi
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 4431669515
  • Pages : 278 pages

Download or read book Computational Biomechanics written by Kozaburo Hayashi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The combination of readily available computing power and progress in numerical techniques has made nonlinear systems - the kind that only a few years ago were ignored as too complex - open to analysis for the first time. Now realistic models of living systems incorporating the nonlinear variation and anisotropic nature of physical properties can be solved numerically on modern computers to give realistically usable results. This has opened up new and exciting possibilities for the fusing of ideas from physiology and engineering in the burgeoning new field that is biomechanics. Computational Biomechanics presents pioneering work focusing on the areas of orthopedic and circulatory mechanics, using experimental results to confirm or improve the relevant mathematical models and parameters. Together with two companion volumes, Biomechanics: Functional Adaptation and Remodeling and the Data Book on Mechanical Properties of Living Cells, Tissues, and Organs, this monograph will prove invaluable to those working in fields ranging from medical science and clinical medicine to biomedical engineering and applied mechanics.

Book Oxford Handbook of Emergencies in Clinical Radiology

Download or read book Oxford Handbook of Emergencies in Clinical Radiology written by Richard Graham and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2009 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essential handbook provides indispensable guidance for all those seeking or reporting investigations in radiology which arises in an emergency setting. It summarises the major problems faced on-call and provides advice on the most suitable radiological tests to request as well as suggesting an appropriate timescale for imaging. From a radiologist's perspective, it lists in concise format the protocol for each test and outlines the expected findings. Emergency radiology is a crucial component of emergency care as a whole. It is rare for a patient to undergo emergency surgery or treatment without prior imaging. Radiology is the new gate-keeper in clinical practice with an emergency CT scan of the head being performed in most UK hospitals every day. Radiology can confirm a diagnosis, sending a patient down a pathway of established therapy; confirm normality, leading to patient discharge; detect an unsuspected abnormality, suggesting an alternative action altogether; or be non-contributory. This concise, portable handbook supports emergency-setting radiology and helps the reader in this vital field.
