Book Ireland s Case for Freedom Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ireland s Case for Freedom Classic Reprint written by Laurence Ginnell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ireland's Case for Freedom Ireland is a Nation not merely for the reason, which in the case of other countries has been taken as sufficient, that she has claimed at all times and still claims to be a nation, but also because, even though no claim were put forward on her behalf, history shows her to be a dis tinct nation from remotely ancient times. For over a thousand years Ireland possessed and fully exercised Sovereign Independence, and was recognized through Europe as a distinct Sovereign State. The usurpation of the foreigner has always been disputed and resisted by the mass of the Irish people. At various times since the coming of the English the Irish Nation has exercised its sovereign rights as opportunity offered. The hope of recovering its full and permanent sovereignty has always been in the breasts of the Irish people, and has been the inspira tion and the mainspring of their political activities, abroad as well as at home. English statecraft has long and persistently striven in vain to force the Irish people to abandon hope. The English policy of repression, spiritually and materially, has never been at rest from the first intrusion of English power until the present day. Book The Annesley Case Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Annesley Case Classic Reprint written by Andrew Lang and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Annesley Case Purists or patriots may conceivably demur to the inclusion in a series of English Trials of the Amesley Case, tried in Ireland. As the nature of the law and of its administration was not that of the Brehons, these ancient Hibernian jurists, but of the English Courts, it is hoped that the circumstances may plead in favour of the appearance of the case among English Trials. The law in Ireland during the eighteenth century was English, and the persons whose interests were at stake, the family of Annesley, were neither Irish speakers nor of Irish blood. The ease is loo curious to be omitted. The Editor owes much to the success of Miss E. M. Thompson, who discovered the hitherto unpublished affidavits of 1746: and desires to thank W. Roughead, Esq., XV. S., for his kindness in drawing up the chronology of the Annesley Case. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book A Stranger in Ireland Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Stranger in Ireland Classic Reprint written by An Englishman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Stranger in Ireland At the end Of two or three months a man's ideas about a new country are usually clear cut and sharply defined, so that the task of putting them on paper is Simple, the result having as often as not a certain value from its very freshness. But after a stay of two or three years the Situation is altogether different. One feels that one' S subject is inexhaustible, that one' S ignorance is unlimited. At the same time all those precise impressions which made every one of the early days an adven ture have become blurred, confused and inextricably entangled. For anything ap proaching a generalisation which I now feel inclined to make on any subject connected with Ireland or the Irish, a hundred excep tions and contradictions at once present themselves. It is only by a ruthless insistence on first principles that any order can be got out of the chaos of conflicting observation. And in this realisation of what must be the only, sound basis for his conclusions the man of letters has too often (as in my own case) to lament his short comings as a scholar. Book Ireland in Insurrection

Download or read book Ireland in Insurrection written by Hugh Martin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ireland in Insurrection: An Englishman's Record of Fact Have known Hugh Martin as a journalist for many years, and I believe him to be a patriotic Englishman and-an honest man. When there fore I read his reports day by day on the happen ings in Ireland I was convinced that they were accounts of the truth, trustworthy as far as it is possible for anyone to obtain the exact detail of truth in such conditions as those in Ireland - where the search for it is difficult and dangerous - and not written with any poisonous intent to destroy the good fame of England. It seemed to me then and it seems to me now after reading Mr. Martin s book, in which he has given a careful and considered narrative of his observations and experiences, that here is evidence which cannot be disregarded by English people who have any honesty of mind and any love for the reputation of their country. Official denial, evasion, sup pression, and distortion of facts cannot stand. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
