Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A U.S. government report is mandated annually through 2015 on firms engaging in certain types of commercial activities involving Iran's energy and communications sectors. Iran's economy relies on oil, a major source of government revenues, and Iran has blocked its citizens' access to telecommunications. This is the latest in a series of reports on foreign firms reported to have engaged in commercial activities in Iran's energy sector or to have exported technologies to Iran for blocking telecommunications. It identifies (1) foreign firms reported to have engaged in commercial activity in Iran's energy sector between Nov. 8, 2013, and Dec. 1, 2014; (2) foreign firms reported to have exported technology to Iran between Nov. 8, 2013, and Dec. 1, 2014, for telecommunications blocking; and (3) any of these identified firms that had U.S. government contracts, awards, or purchasing agreements while having been reported to have engaged in such activities. It also updates the activity status for firms previously identified as having been reported to be engaged in such activities. Tables. This is a print on demand report.

Book Firms Reported in Open Sources as Having Commercial Activity in Iran s Oil Gas and Petrochemical Sectors

Download or read book Firms Reported in Open Sources as Having Commercial Activity in Iran s Oil Gas and Petrochemical Sectors written by Joseph A. Christoff and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iran has the world's third largest oil reserves and second largest gas reserves, and is the world's fourth largest producer of crude oil. Iran's priorities for the next 5 years are: (1) raise oil production and exports; (2) increase natural gas production for domestic use; and (3) expand refining capacity. Iran prohibits non-Iranian firms from obtaining an ownership interest by investing in oil and gas fields, but allows them to enter into "buy-back" arrangements in which the foreign firms may receive entitlements to oil or gas for a limited time in exchange for the funds they expend on the project. This report: (1) provides a list of foreign firms engaging in commercial activity in Iran's oil, gas, or petrochemical sectors from 2005 to 2009; and (2) provides info. about these sectors.

Book Bazaar and State in Iran

Download or read book Bazaar and State in Iran written by Arang Keshavarzian and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-04-12 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tehran Bazaar has always been central to the Iranian economy and indeed, to the Iranian urban experience. Arang Keshavarzian's fascinating book compares the economics and politics of the marketplace under the Pahlavis, who sought to undermine it in the drive for modernisation and under the subsequent revolutionary regime, which came to power with a mandate to preserve the bazaar as an 'Islamic' institution. The outcomes of their respective policies were completely at odds with their intentions. Despite the Shah's hostile approach, the bazaar flourished under his rule and maintained its organisational autonomy to such an extent that it played an integral role in the Islamic revolution. Conversely, the Islamic Republic implemented policies that unwittingly transformed the ways in which the bazaar operated, thus undermining its capacity for political mobilisation. Arang Keshavarizian's book affords unusual insights into the politics, economics and society of Iran across four decades.

Book Nuclear Iran The Birth of an Atomic State

Download or read book Nuclear Iran The Birth of an Atomic State written by David Patrikarakos and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Iranian nuclear crisis has dominated world politics since the beginning of the century, with the country now facing increasing diplomatic isolation, talk of military strikes against its nuclear facilities and a disastrous Middle East war. What is Iran's nuclear programme all about? What is its genesis? There is little real understanding of Iran's nuclear programme, in particular its history, which is now over fifty years old. This ground-breaking book is unprecedented in its scope. It argues that the history of Iran's nuclear programme and the modern history of the country itself are irretrievably linked, and only by understanding one can we understand the other. From the programme's beginnings under the Shah of Iran, the book details the central role of the US in the birth of nuclear Iran, and, through the relationship between the programme's founder and the Shah of Iran himself, the role that nuclear weapons have played in the programme since the beginning. The author's unique access to 'the father' of Iran's nuclear programme, as well as to key scientific personnel under the early Islamic Republic and to senior Iranian and Western officials at the centre of today's negotiations, sheds new light on the uranium enrichment programme that lies at the heart of global concerns. What emerges is a programme that has, for a variety of reasons, a deep resonance to Iran. This is why it has persisted with it for over half a century in the face of such widespread opposition. Drawing on years of research across the world, David Patrikarakos has produced the most comprehensive examination of Iran's nuclear programme - in all its forms to date.

Book Iran s Deadly Ambition

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ilan Berman
  • Publisher : Encounter Books
  • Release : 2016-12-06
  • ISBN : 1594038988
  • Pages : 156 pages

Download or read book Iran s Deadly Ambition written by Ilan Berman and published by Encounter Books. This book was released on 2016-12-06 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are we on the cusp of détente with Iran? Conventional wisdom certainly seems to believe so. Since the start of diplomacy between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 powers (the United States, France, England, Russia, China, Germany) in November 2013, hopes have been running high for a historic reconciliation of Iran’s clerical regime with the West. Yet there is ample reason for skepticism that the United States and its allies can truly curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions by diplomatic means. Moreover, the West’s current focus on Iran’s nuclear program is deeply dangerous insofar as it fails to recognize—let alone address—Iran’s other international activities or its foreign policy aims. Those objectives are global, and they continue to grow in scope and menace. In this sobering book, Ilan Berman illuminates the multiple dimensions of the Iranian threat and exposes the perils of lodging confidence in diplomacy with the Islamic Republic.

Book South Korea s Middle Power Diplomacy in the Middle East

Download or read book South Korea s Middle Power Diplomacy in the Middle East written by Hae Won Jeong and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines theoretical and empirical approaches to the study of middle powers with reference to South Korea’s bilateral relations with Iran, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Iraq. It maps the development, political and diplomatic trajectories between South Korea and Iran, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Iraq against the historical backdrop of ROK-US alliance and the rise of China. This accessible book is intended for students and scholars in area studies and international affairs, career diplomats, and South Korean businesses in the Middle East. It should also prove of practical value for journalists and policy makers who are interested in studying the nexus of domestic, regional and international factors that have configured South Korea’s Middle East policy.

Download or read book Iran written by Anthony H. Cordesman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-02-14 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report analyzes four key aspects of US and Iranian strategic competition--sanctions, energy, arms control, and regime change. Its primary focus is on the ways in which the sanctions applied to Iran have changed US and Iranian competition since the fall of 2011. This escalation has been spurred by the creation of a series of far stronger US unilateral sanctions and the European Union’s imposition of equally strong sanctions, both of which affect Iran’s ability to export, its financial system, and its overall economy.
