Book Internet Protocol Television in Germany Analysing Business Models for Market Success

Download or read book Internet Protocol Television in Germany Analysing Business Models for Market Success written by Nikolas Fritz and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-11-26 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 86 %, Cologne Business School Köln, language: English, abstract: The medium Television in Germany looks back on a more than 70-years old history. Since the first regular television programme was broadcasted in 1935 – which has been the first worldwide – television was subject of permanent change. Broadcasting and recording techniques, end devices, public perception and acceptance and content developed significantly over the decades. Starting with a single channel broadcasting black and white free-to-air, today consumers with the proper equipment can receive hundreds or even thousands of different channels that serve every imaginable need. Free-to-air broadcasting was little by little replaced by cable and satellite broadcasting, starting in 1983 respectively in 1988. Hand in hand with the digitisation era a new medium arose in the 1990’s: broadcasting via the internet. Due to high bandwidth requirements this distribution channel developed slowly. Even nowadays this represents the bottleneck of the potential “TV of the future”, called Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). However, IPTV has yet earned an early round of applause which is legitimated by the numerous advantages it offers for the consumer as well as for the distributer, content provider and advertiser.

Book Parametric Packet based Audiovisual Quality Model for IPTV services

Download or read book Parametric Packet based Audiovisual Quality Model for IPTV services written by Marie-Neige Garcia and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-20 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a parametric, packet-based, comprehensive model to measure and predict the audiovisual quality of Internet Protocol Television services as it is likely to be perceived by the user. The comprehensive model is divided into three sub-models referred to as the audio model, the video model, and the audiovisual model. The audio and video models take as input a parametric description of the audiovisual processing path, and deliver distinct estimates for both the audio and video quality. These distinct estimates are eventually used as input data for the audiovisual model. This model provides an overall estimate of the perceived audiovisual quality in total. The parametric description can be used as diagnostic information. The quality estimates and diagnostic information can be practically applied to enhance network deployment and operations. Two applications come to mind in particular: Network planning and network service quality monitoring. The audio model can be used indifferently for both applications. However, two variants of the video model have been developed in order to address particular needs of the applications mentioned above. The comprehensive model covers effects due to resolution, coding, and IP-packet loss in case of RTP-type transport. The model applied to quality monitoring is standardized under the ITU-T Recommendations P.1201 and P.1201.2.

Book Triple Play

Download or read book Triple Play written by Francisco J. Hens and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Triple Play”is a combination of Internet access, voice communication (telephony), and entertainment services such as IP television and video on demand. The erosion of the traditional voice service, together with the ever-increasing competition between companies, is pushing the telecommunications industry towards a major shift in its business models. Customers want more services in a more flexible way. Today, this shift can only be carried out by offering converged services built around the Internet Protocol (IP). Triple Play, a bundle of voice, video, and data services for residential customers, is the basis of this new strategy. Hens and Caballero explain how and why the telecommunications industry is facing this change, how to define, implement and offer these new services, and describes the technology behind the converged network. Triple Play analyses a number of business strategies to minimise costs, while migrating infrastructures and offering new services. Triple Play: Describes the elementary concepts of triple play service provision and gives detailed technical information to highlight key aspects. Discussed access networks, transport, signaling, service definition and business models. Covers the latest innovations in Triple Play services such as Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM), VDSL2 (Very High Speed DSL second generation), pseudowires andMultiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). Explores video solutions (encoding, IPTV, VoD) alongside transmission and switching technologies (Ethernet, DSL, PON, NG-SDH). Includes a chapter on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and on fixed/mobile convergence. Triple Play: Building the Converged Network for IP, VoIP and IPTV provides decision makers, engineers, telecommunications operators, network equipment manufacturers, installers and IT managers with a thorough understanding of the changes of traditional voice service and its impact upon the telecommunications industry.
