Download or read book The Empire Has An Answer written by Tony James Brady and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘If we do not win the battle of training, we shall win no other battle in the air.’ In 1943 the Royal Air Force recognised that training a vast amount of aircrew for a high attrition war was essential to an Allied victory, and that the key to winning the ‘battle of training’ was the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS). 37,576 Australian aircrew graduated from the EATS. Over 300 were killed whilst training for war and 9874 aircrew were killed or listed as missing while on active duty. Those who fought under this scheme during World War II amounted to just 6.7 per cent of Australian service personnel serving overseas yet the aircrew losses amounted to almost 25 per cent of all the Australian fatalities during the war. This made serving in EATS among the most hazardous duties of the war. The Empire has an Answer was researched using more than 35 000 articles, from 150 metropolitan, regional, and district newspapers, and what materialised was a story of one of, if not, the greatest training programs the world has seen. Follow the journey from the conception and implementation of the scheme, through recruitment and basic training, flight training, and then into combat. The individual accounts woven into the narrative provide a first-hand experience of the triumphs and trials of typical airmen and airwomen who performed extraordinary feats in a time of great need. The significant achievements and success of the Empire Air Training Scheme has for the most part been overlooked in our history, until now.
Download or read book Queensland s Threatened Animals written by Lee K Curtis and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queensland is home to 70% of Australia’s native mammals (226 species), over 70% of native birds (630 species), just over half of the nation’s native reptiles (485) and native frogs (127), and more than 11 000 native plant species. Hundreds of these have a threatened status in Queensland. In order for Queensland to maintain and recover a healthy biodiversity we must address the serious problems faced by our natural environment – habitat loss, inappropriate land management, change in fire regimes, pollution of natural resources, proliferation of invasive species and climate change. This book features up-to-date distribution data, photos and maps for most of Queensland’s threatened animals. It also includes a comprehensive list of resources, with key state, national and international organisations involved in the recovery and management of threatened species. Queensland's Threatened Animals will provide vital information to scientists, educators, business entities, government agencies, students, community groups, environmental NGOs, regional NRMs and potential volunteers.

Download or read book Oceania written by Chris Cooper and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Oceania: A Tourism Handbook draws together a wide range of sources to provide a comprehensive handbook of tourism in the Oceania region. As tourism continues to grow in importance and significance for the countries of Oceania, it is important to have a single source of information and reference for tourism. At the same time, it is vital to provide a disciplined analysis of tourism by standardising terminologies and delivering a consistency of approach for all the countries in the region." "The handbook provides an anatomy of tourism in the region by taking a detailed look at each of the three key constituents of Oceania - Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. For each of these regions, tourism demand, supply and organisation have been analysed, as well as a chapter to guide the reader through the tourism statistics sources that are available. The final section of the handbook takes a thematic approach with chapters examining key issues of tourism in the region, including investment, air transport, risk management, land ownership, climate change and tourism education."--BOOK JACKET.

Download or read book Inclusive Theory and Practice in Special Education written by van Rensburg, Henriette and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-01-03 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusive education retains significant complexity associated with creating a definition, and there is significant importance within the surrounding narratives reflecting the broader definitions. Due to the flexibility within the definition, investigating current practices across an array of definitions becomes essential to developing best practices in special education. Inclusive Theory and Practice in Special Education is an essential research book that examines current shifts in the field within the overarching philosophy of inclusion and inclusive education. It reports recent research that focuses on the experiences of teachers and students in classrooms and ways of enhancing the practices of inservice teachers and early career teachers, as well as the preparation of preservice teachers. Besides presenting research from these perspectives, it also addresses a selection of broader issues that impact on policy and curriculum, thus identifying related concerns, including those of the wider community. Highlighting a wide range of topics such as learning disabilities, student mobility, and early childhood education, this publication is ideal for researchers, professionals, administrators, curriculum designers, academicians, policymakers, and students.

Download or read book Order Order written by Stephen Wilks and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Order, Order!’: A Biographical Dictionary of Speakers, Deputy Speakers and Clerks of the Australian House of Representatives shines a first-ever historical light on the remarkable men and women who have served in these national offices since Federation. The Speakers include Frederick Holder, whose campaign to embed a Westminster-style Speakership died with him when he collapsed dramatically in the parliament; the much-loved Joan Child, Australia’s first female Speaker, whose struggles as a widow with five children fostered her commitment to social justice and made her, in the words of another Speaker, Anna Burke, ‘pretty fierce’; and Ian Sinclair, a warhorse of a parliamentarian who seemed to prove the poacher-turned-gamekeeper principle. The Deputy Speakers, a particularly eclectic assortment, include the strange and bleakly serious James Fowler, who once hopefully mailed a film synopsis to the American director Cecil B. DeMille and who ended his days warning of the perils of democracy. Amongst the Clerks are Frank Green, who, at the height of the Cold War, indiscreetly befriended members of the Communist Party, and the popular Jack Pettifer—a true child of parliament—who grew up in an apartment in the building. This book includes analysis of what sorts of individuals typically filled these vital parliamentary positions, and the appearance of an Australian model of the Speakership based on pragmatic compromise. All three offices are typically more than just creatures of political parties—something that Australians should be prepared to defend against the remorseless encroachment of political partisanship.
