Book Ions Electrons and Ionizing Radiations Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ions Electrons and Ionizing Radiations Classic Reprint written by James Arnold Crowther and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-08-02 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ions, Electrons, and Ionizing Radiations N 0 charge has yet been observed which is smaller than that on the electron. Every charge observed, which is sufficiently small to be directly compared with that of the electron, has been found to be an exact integral multiple of it. We are thus led to the conclusion that electricity is atomic in structure; the smallest possible unit of charge being that of the electron, which thus constitutes our fundamental unit of electricity. Moreover it can be shewn that the mass of the electron is entirely an electrical effect, and is due solely to the charge which it carries. The electron therefore constitutes a real atom of electricity. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Health Effects of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation

Download or read book Health Effects of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation written by National Research Council and published by National Academies. This book was released on 1990-02-01 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reevaluates the health risks of ionizing radiation in light of data that have become available since the 1980 report on this subject was published. The data include new, much more reliable dose estimates for the A-bomb survivors, the results of an additional 14 years of follow-up of the survivors for cancer mortality, recent results of follow-up studies of persons irradiated for medical purposes, and results of relevant experiments with laboratory animals and cultured cells. It analyzes the data in terms of risk estimates for specific organs in relation to dose and time after exposure, and compares radiation effects between Japanese and Western populations.

Book Health Risks from Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation

Download or read book Health Risks from Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation written by Committee to Assess Health Risks from Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2006-03-23 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the seventh in a series of titles from the National Research Council that addresses the effects of exposure to low dose LET (Linear Energy Transfer) ionizing radiation and human health. Updating information previously presented in the 1990 publication, Health Effects of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation: BEIR V, this book draws upon new data in both epidemiologic and experimental research. Ionizing radiation arises from both natural and man-made sources and at very high doses can produce damaging effects in human tissue that can be evident within days after exposure. However, it is the low-dose exposures that are the focus of this book. So-called “late” effects, such as cancer, are produced many years after the initial exposure. This book is among the first of its kind to include detailed risk estimates for cancer incidence in addition to cancer mortality. BEIR VII offers a full review of the available biological, biophysical, and epidemiological literature since the last BEIR report on the subject and develops the most up-to-date and comprehensive risk estimates for cancer and other health effects from exposure to low-level ionizing radiation.

Book Introduction to Radiological Physics and Radiation Dosimetry

Download or read book Introduction to Radiological Physics and Radiation Dosimetry written by Frank Herbert Attix and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A straightforward presentation of the broad concepts underlying radiological physics and radiation dosimetry for the graduate-level student. Covers photon and neutron attenuation, radiation and charged particle equilibrium, interactions of photons and charged particles with matter, radiotherapy dosimetry, as well as photographic, calorimetric, chemical, and thermoluminescence dosimetry. Includes many new derivations, such as Kramers X-ray spectrum, as well as topics that have not been thoroughly analyzed in other texts, such as broad-beam attenuation and geometrics, and the reciprocity theorem. Subjects are layed out in a logical sequence, making the topics easier for students to follow. Supplemented with numerous diagrams and tables.

Download or read book Quantum Mechanics written by D.I. Blokhintsev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The English translation of Osnovy kvantovol mekhaniki has been made from the third and fourth Russian editions. These contained a number of important additions and changes as compared with the first two editions. The main additions concern collision theory, and applications of quantum mechanics to the theory of the atomic nucleus and to the theory of elementary particles. The development of these branches in recent years, resulting from the very rapid progress made in nuclear physics, has been so great that such additions need scarcely be defended. Some additions relating to methods have also been made, for example concerning the quasiclassical approxi mation, the theory of the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients and several other matters with which the modern physicist needs to be acquainted. The alterations that have been made involve not only the elimination of obviously out-of-date material but also the refinement of various formulations and statements. For these refinements I am indebted to many persons who at different times have expressed to me their critical comments and suggestions. Particularly important changes have been made regarding the definition of a quantum ensemble in Section 14.
