Book A Study of the Effects of Ionized Air on Behavior

Download or read book A Study of the Effects of Ionized Air on Behavior written by W. Dean Chiles and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The effect on human behavior of an atmosphere containing excesses of unipolar ions was investigated. Fifteen subjects were tested on a complex mental task, an additional fifteen performed a vigilance task, and twenty subjects indicated their attitudes through marking an adjective check list while exposed to five levels of air ionization. The ion conditions for each study were varied from a high excess of positive ions through a medium excess of positive ions, low ion (neutral), medium negative, and low negative. None of the differences found among the ion conditions for these tests were statistically significant."--Abstract.

Book excerpt: Air Ions: Physical and Biological Aspects fully develops two areas that are important for a comprehensive understanding of the subject of air ions: (1) the physical/chemical nature of ions, and (2) their potential interaction with biological systems. The reader is led through a series of none chapter, the first five of which lay the basis for understanding ions in the context of naturally and artificially created environments. The final four chapters are well situated to discuss the literature and history connected with the search for ion-induced biological effects.

Book Fundamentals of Ionized Gases

Download or read book Fundamentals of Ionized Gases written by Boris M. Smirnov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-09-19 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and readily accessible work for studying the physics of ionized gases, based on "Physics of Ionized Gases". The focus remains on fundamentals rather than on the details required for interesting but difficult applications, such as magnetic confinement fusion, or the phenomena that occur with extremely high-intensity short-pulse lasers. However, this new work benefits from much rearranging of the subject matter within each topic, resulting in a more coherent structure. There are also some significant additions, many of which relate to clusters, while other enlarged sections include plasmas in the atmosphere and their applications. In each case, the emphasis is on a clear and unified understanding of the basic physics that underlies all plasma phenomena. Thus, there are chapters on plasma behavior from the viewpoint of atomic and molecular physics, as well as on the macroscopic phenomena involved in physical kinetics of plasmas and the transport of radiation and of charged particles within plasmas. With this grounding in the fundamental physics of plasmas, the notoriously difficult subjects of nonlinear phenomena and of instabilities in plasmas can then be treated with comprehensive clarity. The work is rounded off with appendices containing information and data of great importance and relevance that are not easily found in other books. Valuable reading for graduate and PhD physics students, and a reference for researchers in low-temperature ionized gases-plasma processing, edge region fusion plasma physics, and atmospheric plasmas.

Book FORMATION OF IONS IN IONIZED AIR

Download or read book FORMATION OF IONS IN IONIZED AIR written by Franklin E. Niles and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Schematic representations are given for both the formation of positive ions and the formation of negative ions in ionized air. The formation of positive ions can be divided into three regions. Region I contains the ionization of neutral constituents and two-body reactions in dry air. Region II contains reactions involving ionic species which are formed by three-body reactions. Region III contains reactions requiring water vapor and shows the formation of the hydrated hydronium ions. The formation of negative ions proceeds predominantly through O2( - ). The clustering of neutral molecules to O2( - ) opens additional channels for the formation of NO3( - ), an ion which is not attacked by atomic oxygen. Rate constants are given, including the experimental values on which they are based, for the reactions in the schematic representations. (Author).

Download or read book Physics of Ionized Gases written by Boris M. Smirnov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-11-20 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive textbook and reference for the study of the physics of ionized gases The intent of this book is to provide deep physical insight into the behavior of gases containing atoms and molecules from which one or more electrons have been ionized. The study of these so-called plasmas begins with an overview of plasmas as they are found in nature and created in the laboratory. This serves as a prelude to a comprehensive study of plasmas, beginning with low temperature and "ideal" plasmas and extending to radiation and particle transport phenomena, the response of plasmas to external fields, and an insightful treatment of plasma waves, plasma instabilities, nonlinear phenomena in plasmas, and the study of plasma interactions with surfaces. In all cases, the emphasis is on a clear and unified understanding of the basic physics that underlies all plasma phenomena. Thus, there are chapters on plasma behavior from the viewpoint of atomic and molecular physics, as well as on the macroscopic phenomena involved in physical kinetics of plasmas and the transport of radiation and of charged particles within plasmas. With this grounding in the fundamental physics of plasmas, the notoriously difficult subjects of nonlinear phenomena and of instabilities in plasmas are then treated with comprehensive clarity.
