Book Focused Ion Beam Systems

Download or read book Focused Ion Beam Systems written by Nan Yao and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-09-13 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focused ion beam (FIB) system is an important tool for understanding and manipulating the structure of materials at the nanoscale. Combining this system with an electron beam creates a DualBeam - a single system that can function as an imaging, analytical and sample modification tool. Presenting the principles, capabilities, challenges and applications of the FIB technique, this edited volume, first published in 2007, comprehensively covers the ion beam technology including the DualBeam. The basic principles of ion beam and two-beam systems, their interaction with materials, etching and deposition are all covered, as well as in situ materials characterization, sample preparation, three-dimensional reconstruction and applications in biomaterials and nanotechnology. With nanostructured materials becoming increasingly important in micromechanical, electronic and magnetic devices, this self-contained review of the range of ion beam methods, their advantages, and when best to implement them is a valuable resource for researchers in materials science, electrical engineering and nanotechnology.

  • Pages : 526 pages

Download or read book Bioengineering written by Audric Garcia and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2010 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarises recent progress of newly developed bioengineering technology, such as low-energy ion beam bioengineering (IBBE). Low-energy IBBE has demonstrated powerful impacts and highly potential applications on biology, agriculture, horticulture and life science. Over the years, many shell finite elements have been developed for applications in aerospace, automotive and shipbuilding industries. A review of the development and application of triangular shell finite elements is also included in this book. In addition, the challenge of bioengineering glass-ceramics and ceramics for the fabrication of dental restorations is to fulfil the needs of patients. The authors report on methods for developing materials that show a combination of different properties. New methods to measure some essential properties of tissue-engineered cartilage are examined, as well as the types of gene assembly in terms of metabolic engineering, and the principle of and actual protocol for the Ordered Gene Assembly in B. subtilis (OGAB). Furthermore, the use of human embryos and foetuses for the advancement of fundamental science and for the production of life-saving vaccines has had a significant historical importance. Cellular therapy using embryonic and fetal tissue has become a very prominent subject in the 21st century in the search of new treatments. This book clarifies some definitions of newly used terms for embryonic and foetal cells, describes world-wide policy on voluntary interruption of pregnancy and elaborates on the history for legal use for both embryonic and foetal issues. Some bioengineering approaches for the treatment of severe pressure ulcers (PU) are examined in this book as well.

Book Swift Heavy Ions for Materials Engineering and Nanostructuring

Download or read book Swift Heavy Ions for Materials Engineering and Nanostructuring written by Devesh Kumar Avasthi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-05-24 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ion beams have been used for decades for characterizing and analyzing materials. Now energetic ion beams are providing ways to modify the materials in unprecedented ways. This book highlights the emergence of high-energy swift heavy ions as a tool for tailoring the properties of materials with nanoscale structures. Swift heavy ions interact with materials by exciting/ionizing electrons without directly moving the atoms. This opens a new horizon towards the 'so-called' soft engineering. The book discusses the ion beam technology emerging from the non-equilibrium conditions and emphasizes the power of controlled irradiation to tailor the properties of various types of materials for specific needs.
