Book The High Power Iodine Laser

Download or read book The High Power Iodine Laser written by G. Brederlow and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been two major review articles on the iodine laser in the last ll seven years, liThe Photochemical Iodine Laser by K. Hohla and K. Kompa (Handbook of Chemical Lasers, edited by R. Gross and J. Bott, Wi 1 ey, New York,1976) and a SANDIA report (No. 78-1071, 1978) entitled liThe Atomic Iodine Laserll. Since then, a large body of new material has been published, and practical experience has been gained with large iodine laser systems in Garchi ng (ASTERIX II I) and in the USSR. These 1 asers have now become very reliable tools, especially in fusion-oriented plasma experiments, which represent their main field of application. They can deliver powers in excess of many terawatts per beam and are thus also suited for use in other areas such as X-ray lasers, incoherent X-ray sources, compression of matter and its behaviour at very high densities. The physics of the iodine laser is now rather well understood, and its technology has reached a standard adequate for the construction of large scale systems in the multi-hundred kJ range. In view of this new situation, we thought it useful to document the present state of the art ina book. Its contents and the literature cited therein have been chosen to cover those areas which are of main concern in the design and operation of pulsed high-power iodine lasers.

Book Gas Lasers

Download or read book Gas Lasers written by Masamori Endo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lasers with a gaseous active medium offer high flexibility, wide tunability, and advantages in cost, beam quality, and power scalability. Gas lasers have tended to become overshadowed by the recent popularity and proliferation of semiconductor lasers. As a result of this shift in focus, details on modern developments in gas lasers are difficult to find. In addition, different types of gas lasers have unique properties that are not well-described in other references. Collecting expert contributions from authorities dealing with specific types of lasers, Gas Lasers examines the fundamentals, current research, and applications of this important class of laser. It is important to understand all types of lasers, from solid-state to gaseous, before making a decision for any application. This book fills in the gaps by discussing the definition and properties of gaseous media along with its fluid dynamics, electric excitation circuits, and optical resonators. From this foundation, the discussion launches into the basic physics, characteristics, applications, and current research efforts for specific types of gas lasers: CO lasers, CO2 lasers, HF/DF lasers, excimer lasers, iodine lasers, and metal vapor lasers. The final chapter discusses miscellaneous lasers not covered in the previous chapters. Collecting hard-to-find material into a single, convenient source, Gas Lasers offers an encyclopedic survey that helps you approach new applications with a more complete inventory of laser options.

Book A New All Gas Phase Chemical Iodine Laser Scientists Developed and Demonstrated a New Chemically Pumped Laser

Download or read book A New All Gas Phase Chemical Iodine Laser Scientists Developed and Demonstrated a New Chemically Pumped Laser written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid-state lasers convert electrical energy into light using optical excitation. Although efficient, scientists continue research into scaling these devices for high-power applications. Chemical lasers efficiently convert energy derived from chemical bonds and reactions into laser photons. Scientists use chemical lasers for applications that require high-power, lightweight, and self-contained sources of laser radiation because of their inherent high efficiency and scalability. The two classes of chemical lasers are the hydrogen fluoride (HF) laser and the chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL).

Book Gas Lasers Recent Developments and Future Prospects

Download or read book Gas Lasers Recent Developments and Future Prospects written by W.J. Witteman and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-03-31 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gas laser's high power in all parts of the spectrum and and potential high quality with low cost make its industrial application intriguing. The 30 July 1995 proceedings papers discuss these aspects of gas lasers along with the fundamental and technological problems of different types of lasers connected with beam properties, excitation technology, new pumping schemes, pulsed power, construction materials, and new description codes.
