Book Global Health Informatics

Download or read book Global Health Informatics written by Heimar Marin and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-12-08 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Health Informatics: How Information Technology Can Change Our Lives in a Globalized World discusses the critical role of information and communication technologies in health practice, health systems management and research in increasingly interconnected societies. In a global interconnected world the old standalone institutional information systems have proved to be inadequate for patient-centered care provided by multiple providers, for the early detection and response to emerging and re-emerging diseases, and to guide population-oriented public health interventions. The book reviews pertinent aspects and successful current experiences related to standards for health information systems; digital systems as a support for decision making, diagnosis and therapy; professional and client education and training; health systems operation; and intergovernmental collaboration. - Discusses how standalone systems can compromise health care in globalized world - Provides information on how information and communication technologies (ICT) can support diagnose, treatment, and prevention of emerging and re-emerging diseases - Presents case studies about integrated information and how and why to share data can facilitate governance and strategies to improve life conditions

Book Information Systems Research

Download or read book Information Systems Research written by Bonnie Kaplan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-06-30 with total page 745 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information Systems Research: Relevant Theory and Informed Practice comprises the edited proceedings of the WG8.2 conference, "Relevant Theory and Informed Practice: Looking Forward from a 20-Year Perspective on IS Research," which was sponsored by IFIP and held in Manchester, England, in July 2004. The conference attracted a record number of high-quality manuscripts, all of which were subjected to a rigorous reviewing process in which four to eight track chairs, associate editors, and reviewers thoughtfully scrutinized papers by the highly regarded as well as the newcomers. No person or idea was considered sacrosanct and no paper made it through this process unscathed. All authors were asked to revise the accepted papers, some more than once; thus, good papers got better. With only 29 percent of the papers accepted, these proceedings are significantly more selective than is typical of many conference proceedings. This volume is organized in 7 sections, with 33 full research papers providing panoramic views and reflections on the Information Systems (IS) discipline followed by papers featuring critical interpretive studies, action research, theoretical perspectives on IS research, and the methods and politics of IS development. Also included are 6 panel descriptions and a new category of "bright idea" position papers, 11 in all, wherein main points are summarized in a pithy and provocative fashion.

Book Topics in Mathematical Physics General Relativity and Cosmology in Honor of Jerzy Pleba ski

Download or read book Topics in Mathematical Physics General Relativity and Cosmology in Honor of Jerzy Pleba ski written by Hugo Garc¡a-Compe n and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of modern science's most famous and controversial figures, Jerzy Plebanski was an outstanding theoretical physicist and an author of many intriguing discoveries in general relativity and quantum theory. Known for his exceptional analytic talents, explosive character, inexhaustible energy, and bohemian nights with brandy, coffee, and enormous amounts of cigarettes, he was dedicated to both science and art, producing innumerable handwritten articles - resembling monk's calligraphy - as well as a collection of oil paintings. As a collaborator but also an antagonist of Leopold Infeld's (a coauthor of Albert Einstein's), Plebanski is recognized for designing the "heavenly" and "hyper-heavenly" equations, for introducing new variables to describe the gravitational field, for the exact solutions in Einstein's gravity and in quantum theory, for his classification of the tensor of matter, for some outstanding results in nonlinear electrodynamics, and for analyzing general relativity with continuous sources long before Chandrasekhar et al. A tribute to Plebaski's contributions and the variety of his interests, this is a unique and wide-ranging collection of invited papers, covering gravity quantization, strings, branes, supersymmetry, ideas on the deformation quantization, and lesser known results on the continuous Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff problem.

Book Discovery Science

  • Release : 2001-11-07
  • ISBN : 3540429565

Download or read book Discovery Science written by Klaus P. Jantke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-11-07 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are the conference proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Discovery Science (DS 2001). Although discovery is naturally ubiquitous in s- ence, and scientific discovery itself has been subject to scientific investigation for centuries, the term Discovery Science is comparably new. It came up in conn- tion with the Japanese Discovery Science project (cf. Arikawa's invited lecture on The Discovery Science Project in Japan in the present volume) some time during the last few years. Setsuo Arikawa is the father in spirit of the Discovery Science conference series. He led the above mentioned project, and he is currently serving as the chairman of the international steering committee for the Discovery Science c- ference series. The other members of this board are currently (in alphabetical order) Klaus P. Jantke, Masahiko Sato, Ayumi Shinohara, Carl H. Smith, and Thomas Zeugmann. Colleagues and friends from all over the world took the opportunity of me- ing for this conference to celebrate Arikawa's 60th birthday and to pay tribute to his manifold contributions to science, in general, and to Learning Theory and Discovery Science, in particular. Algorithmic Learning Theory (ALT, for short) is another conference series initiated by Setsuo Arikawa in Japan in 1990. In 1994, it amalgamated with the conference series on Analogical and Inductive Inference (AII), when ALT was held outside of Japan for the first time.

Book Biochemistry of Milk Products

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biochemistry of milk products documents advances in the field and focuses on the two most active areas of research areas, which are starter cultures and enzymes for use in cheese and other foods, and factors influencing the functional properties of milk. The book covers the current thinking and research on the roles of proteinases and peptidases in the milk clotting process and in texture and flavour development during maturation of product. It also covers the protein engineering of enzymes and molecular biological manipulation of microorganisms, including the use of protein engineering to clarify the molecular basis of functional behavior and to manipulate protein properties in a defined and planned way.Biochemistry of milk products provides important reading for research workers, lecturers, graduates and final year undergraduates with interest in the practical applications of molecular biology, enzymology, and protein chemistry, not just in improving the quality and performance of dairy foods and ingredients but also in a much wider context.
