Many times investors are aware of it and few times they are not aware of it. At last, for an individual investor the important thing is the capital appreciation. If they will get the capital appreciation from only one or two investment option and if they are satisfied with it then they will not think of the other avenues of the investment, which might give them more return compare to the others. It has been observed that the overall market of interest on government securities, bank deposits and other fixed deposit has been decreasing year after steadily due to various factors, which affect the interest of the investors and the rate of interest of the investors. On the other hand, the investor's interest is gradually shifted towards mutual funds, shares and other company securities. When compare to bank deposits the return from mutual funds is high. Likewise, when compare to mutual funds the return from equity market is very high. However, of course risk is also high in these securities. Hence, it is very important to know the awareness of the investors in financial assets and how far the investors are aware of the stock market operation, procedures and financial intermediaries. By keeping these issues in mind the present study -- investor's awareness and preference in financial asset for investment is undertaken.

Book Investor s Perception of Value Creation in Environmental Strategies

Download or read book Investor s Perception of Value Creation in Environmental Strategies written by Juan Santaló and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we test whether investors incorporate into stock market prices the future increase or decrease in firm value due to corporate strategies that cause better or worse firm environmental performance. We report strong evidence that low-polluter companies have substantial abnormal positive returns in the subsequent years after the environmental information was publicized while in the same period of time, high-polluter companies have no abnormal returns (positive or negative). On the contrary, we find exactly the opposite results when we analyze stock market behavior the exact same day the environmental information was publicly released. This is, for this exact publication date high polluter companies have significant negative abnormal returns while low-polluter companies have abnormal returns that are not statistically different than zero. Overall, our results are consistent with a world in which investors have been slow to properly evaluate future increases in firm value associated with current good firm environmental performance while on the other hand investors have correctly discounted the future negative financial effects corresponding to high-polluter companies.

Book The Emotionally Intelligent Investor

Download or read book The Emotionally Intelligent Investor written by Ravee Mehta and published by Les Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08-24 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Emotionally Intelligent Investor challenges several long-held assumptions and beliefs, by asserting that a good investment approach starts with introspection. Too many investment gurus tell you to emulate their techniques despite the fact that you may have very different personality traits, motivations and biases. Would Shaquille O'Neal tell a short basketball player to play like him? This book provides a unique template for self-reflection and a framework for developing an investment approach that works best with who you are. Whereas the consensus opinion is that investing success comes from blocking out emotions and making purely rational decisions, the best money managers actually use their feelings. They actively sense what others in the market are thinking, and they employ gut instincts when making decisions. Nevertheless, virtually all investing text books neglect to mention how to best cultivate and utilize empathetic and intuitive realizations. In this book you will learn a process for developing an investing advantage by putting yourself in someone else's shoes. You will also discover how a stock chart is a great tool for understanding what the current holders of a security may be feeling, and you will appreciate why technical analysis works. This book demystifies intuition with respect to investing and provides a method for building and safely harnessing helpful gut instincts. Traditional security analysis is vital, but in this book you will learn why superior returns primarily depend on self-awareness, empathy and intuition. The book is complete with examples and recommendations that illuminate a path towards reaching full investing potential.

Book Individual Investors Trading Behavior and the Competence Effect

Download or read book Individual Investors Trading Behavior and the Competence Effect written by Abhijeet Chandra and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper analyzes the impact of competence of individual investors on their trading behavior in the stock market. Individual investors are seen trading too frequently. This impacts their returns from their investments, their belief in the stock markets, and also the functioning of financial markets to some extent. Investors with high level of competence tend to trade more frequently. While some factors affect individuals' perception towards external issues, some affect their belief in themselves, which in turn, influences their confidence and belief in their own judgment and decision making. This holds true in the context of investors in general and individual investors in particular. Individual investors take trading decisions based on their self-perceived competence that is influenced by several factors. The present study identifies the factors that determine individual investors' competence. The study examines the trading behavior of individual investors by using a modified questionnaire. A survey of 250 individual investors across the Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) was undertaken to collect the primary data. The study uses a competence model to assess the competence effect on trading frequency of individual investors. Based on the findings of the survey data, the study explores the individual investors' trading behavior in the stock market.

Download or read book The Effect of Myopic Behavior on Stock Market Risk Perception written by Yi Liu and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate whether myopic behavior influences respondents' risk perception of future stock market returns. Using the 2012 wave of the Health and Retirement Study, we find that investors who are myopic (follow the stock market “very closely” or “somewhat closely”) are more likely to be in a higher subjective probability group that believes the market for blue chip stocks will drop by 20 percent or more next year. In addition, we find that older cohorts have a more accurate perception of future stock market returns compared to younger cohorts. Financial planning implications are provided.

Book Stock Market and Investment

Download or read book Stock Market and Investment written by Cherian Samuel and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author examines the role of the stock market as a signal to managers in undertaking capital expenditures. He concludes that while both managerial and market perceptions are integral, managerial perception is of greater importance. The evidence suggests that, as a statistic, the Q ratio is not sufficient to explain firms' capital expenditure decisions. Thus, the standard Q model of investment should be modified to provide a more meaningful description of a firm's capital spending decisions. Overall, the results suggest that stock market activity has only limited implications for the economy's resource allocation process. Evidence for the Q theory of investment confirms previous findings in the literature that the model's poor empirical perfomance was partly the result of using aggregate data for the whole economy. Also, since market perception plays only a limited role in determining capital expenditures, shareholder myopia is unlikely to result in managerial myopia. The implications for developing countries are: While the stock market may not be central to a firm's capital spending decisions, it is not a sideshow either. The market plays an important signaling role for managers. This is a powerful rationale for financial reform and capital development in developing countries. The results also suggest that complaints that stock market activity leads to misallocation of resources may be exaggerated.
