Book Investigation of Flowing Mercury Electrodes

Download or read book Investigation of Flowing Mercury Electrodes written by LAWRENCE F. KOONS and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An apparatus was devised for maintaining a flowing mercury electrode. Q alitatively, the current-voltage curves obtained with this electrode correspond to those obtained with the dropping-mercury electrode. The large currents o tainable with this electrode should result in greater sensitivity than in the current-voltage curves obtained with this electrode appear to be associated withAN INCREASED RATE OF SURFACE FLOW O THE MERCURY, PRESU ABLY DUE TO A DECREASE IN THE SURFACE TENSION. This observation may have a bearing on the interpretation of the maxima obtaine with the dr pping mercury electrode. (Author).

Book An Investigation of the Flowing Mercury Electrode

Download or read book An Investigation of the Flowing Mercury Electrode written by Lawrence F. Koons and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of the current-voltage relationship, and of the effect of concentration of electrolyzable substances as well as of mercury flow rate on the limiting current were made on an analogue of the polarographic cell in which the dropping mercury electrode is replaced by an electrode which consists of mercury flowing through a channel in a Teflon block. The limiting current is directly proportional to the concentration of the reducible species and to the mercury flow rate. The precision of the results is poor, apparently as a result of irregular variations in the behavior of the electrode surface. Studies of the results obtained for various empirical modifications of the channel configuration indicate that it will be possible to improve the extent of reproducibility of the results. (Author).

Download or read book Electrochemistry written by J. A. Friend and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 973 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochemistry is a collection of papers presented at the First Australian Conference on Electrochemistry, held in Sydney on February 13-15 and in Hobart on February 18-20, 1963, jointly sponsored by The Royal Australian Chemical Institute, The University of New South Wales, and The University of Tasmania. This conference highlights the numerous advances in the field of electrochemistry. This book is organized into 12 parts encompassing 70 chapters. The first parts deal with the solid-state reactions and processes in electrochemistry; the thermodynamic aspects of electrolytes; and the role of electrodic in corrosion control. The succeeding parts explore the concepts of equilibrium and non-equilibrium theory of double layers, as well as the various electroanalytical methods used in electrochemistry, including polarography, potentiometry, and coulometry. Other parts consider the areas of application of electrochemistry, such as in electroplating, anodizing, fuel cell, electrowinning, and electrorefining. The remaining chapters are devoted to non-aqueous electrolytes, molten salts, and electrode and electrochemical processes. Electrochemists and physicists will find this book invaluable.

Book History of Analytical Chemistry

Download or read book History of Analytical Chemistry written by Ferenc Szabadváry and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-22 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History of Analytical Chemistry is a systematic account of the historical development of analytical chemistry spanning about 4,000 years. Many scientists who have helped to develop the methods of analytical chemistry are mentioned. Various methods of analysis are discussed, including electrogravimetry, optical methods, electrometric analysis, radiochemical analysis, and chromatography. This volume is comprised of 14 chapters and begins with an overview of analytical chemistry in ancient Greece, the origin of chemistry, and the earliest knowledge of analysis. The next chapter focuses on analytical chemistry during the Middle Ages, with emphasis on alchemy. Analytical knowledge during the period of iatrochemistry and the development of analytical chemistry during the phlogiston period are then examined. Subsequent chapters deal with the development of the fundamental laws of chemistry, including the principle of the indestructibility of matter; analytical chemistry during the period of Berzelius; and developments in qualitative and gravimetric analysis. Elementary organic analysis is also considered, along with the development of the theory of analytical chemistry. This book will be helpful to chemists as well as students and researchers in the field of analytical chemistry.
