Book Investigations of the Renormalization Group Approach to the Nucleon nucleon Interaction

Download or read book Investigations of the Renormalization Group Approach to the Nucleon nucleon Interaction written by Sunethra Ramanan and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis work has investigated the Renormalization Group theory for the nucleon-nucleon interaction. Conventional nuclear many-body calculations have the following sources of non-perturbative physics: (1) a strongly repulsive short-range interaction, (2) a tensor force, e.g. from pion exchange, which is highly singular at short-distances, (3) the presence of low-energy bound states or nearly bound states (in the S waves).

Book The Nucleon nucleon Interaction and the Nuclear Many body Problem

Download or read book The Nucleon nucleon Interaction and the Nuclear Many body Problem written by Gerald E. Brown and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of some key developments in the understanding of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and nuclear many-body theory. The main problems at the level of meson exchange physics have been solved, and we have an effective field theory using a phenomenological interaction pioneered by Achim Schwenk and Scott Bogner, which is nearly universally accepted as a unique low-momentum interaction that includes all experimental data to date. This understanding is based on a multi-step development in which different scientific insights and a wide range of physical and mathematical methodologies fed into each other. It is best appreciated by looking at the different 'steps along the way', starting with the pioneering work of Brueckner and his collaborators that was just as necessary and important as the insightful masterly improvements to Brueckner's theory by Hans Bethe and his students. Moving on from there, the off-shell effects that bedeviled Bethe's work — which had resulted in the 1963 Reference Spectrum Method — were treated relatively accurately by introducing an energy gap between initial bound states and an intermediate state. With their influential 1967 paper, Brown and Kuo prepared the effective field theory. Later, the introduction of 'Brown-Rho scaling' deepened understanding of saturation in the many-body system and fed directly into recent work on carbon-14 dating.

This book was released on 2010-07-05 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of some key developments in the understanding of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and nuclear many-body theory. The main problems at the level of meson exchange physics have largely been solved, and we now have an effective nucleon-nucleon interaction, pioneered in a renormalization group formalism by several of us at Stony Brook and our colleagues at Naples, which is nearly universally accepted as the unique low-momentum interaction that includes all experimental information to date. Our present understanding of these issues is based on a multi-step development in which different scientific insights and a wide range of physical and mathematical methodologies fed into each other. It is best appreciated by looking at the ‘steps along the way’, starting with the pioneering work of Brueckner and his collaborators that was just as necessary and important as the insightful improvements to Brueckner's theory by Hans Bethe and his students. Moving on from there, microscopic methods for nuclear structure calculations using the Brueckner G-matrix, and later low-momentum nucleon interactions, were developed and applied. With their influential 1967 paper, Brown and Kuo prepared the effective theory that allowed the description of nuclear properties directly from the underlying nucleon-nucleon interaction. Later, the addition of ‘Brown-Rho scaling’ to the one-boson-exchange model deepened the understanding of nuclear matter saturation, carbon-14 dating and the structure of neutron stars.

Book Finite cutoff Renormalization of the Chiral Nucleon nucleon Interaction

Download or read book Finite cutoff Renormalization of the Chiral Nucleon nucleon Interaction written by Ehab Marji and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chiral effective field theory is a powerful tool in dealing with nuclear forces in both a systematic and model-independent way. In the recent past, two-, three-, and four-nucleon forces up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3 LO) have been derived and and applied fairly successfully in nuclear few- and many-body systems. However, an important issue has been neglected in all of this work: Non-perturbative renormalization, which is crucial to prove the model-independence of the theory. In this thesis, I have have investigated systematically the renormalization of chiral neutron-proton (np) potentials at order NLO and NNLO applying Weinberg counting for the counter terms (NN contact terms). I show that the reproduction of the np data at these energies is generally poor at NLO, while at NNLO the [chi] 2 /datum assumes acceptable values (a clear demonstration of order-by-order improvement). Moreover, at NNLO one observes "plateaus" of constant low [chi]2 for cutoff parameters ranging from 450 to 850 MeV. This may be perceived as cutoff independence (and, thus, successful renormalization) in the relevant range of cutoff parameters. Preliminary results for N3 LO will also be discussed.

Book Advances in the Application of the Similarity Renormalization Group to Strongly Interacting Systems

Download or read book Advances in the Application of the Similarity Renormalization Group to Strongly Interacting Systems written by Kyle Andrew Wendt and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The Similarity Renormalization Group (SRG) as applied in nuclear physics is a tool to soften and decouple inter-nucleon interactions. The necessity for such a tool is generated by the strong coupling of high- and low-momentum degrees of freedom in modern precision interactions. In recent years the SRG have been used with great success in enhancing few (2-12) nucleon calculations, but there are still many open questions about the nature of the SRG, and how it affects chiral forces. This thesis focuses on three topics within the study of the SRG as it applies to nuclear few-body interactions, with a focus on nuclear forces from chiral effective field theory .

Download or read book Modern Nuclear Physics written by Alexandre Obertelli and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-25 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a unique and ambitious primer of nuclear physics, which introduces recent theoretical and experimental progresses starting from basics in fundamental quantum mechanics. The highlight is to offer an overview of nuclear structure phenomena relevant to recent key findings such as unstable halo nuclei, superheavy elements, neutron stars, nucleosynthesis, the standard model, lattice quantum chromodynamics (LQCD), and chiral effective theory. An additional attraction is that general properties of nuclei are comprehensively explained from both the theoretical and experimental viewpoints. The book begins with the conceptual and mathematical basics of quantum mechanics, and goes into the main point of nuclear physics – nuclear structure, radioactive ion beam physics, and nuclear reactions. The last chapters devote interdisciplinary topics in association with astrophysics and particle physics. A number of illustrations and exercises with complete solutions are given. Each chapter is comprehensively written starting from fundamentals to gradually reach modern aspects of nuclear physics with the objective to provide an effective description of the cutting edge in the field.

Book Applications of the Similarity Renormalization Group to the Nuclear Interaction

Download or read book Applications of the Similarity Renormalization Group to the Nuclear Interaction written by Eric Donald Jurgenson and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The Similarity Renormalization Group (SRG) is investigated as a powerful yet practical method to modify nuclear potentials so as to reduce computational requirements for calculations of observables. The SRG proves to be versatile and robust in its treatment of these interactions and opens the door to a deeper understanding of the renormalization process.
