Book Investigations of Infra Red Spectra

Download or read book Investigations of Infra Red Spectra written by William W. Coblentz and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Investigations of Infra-Red Spectra: Part I. Infra-Red Absorption Spectra; Part II. Infra-Red Emission Spectra The free vibration periods Of molecular aggregations may be studied by means Of their emission or absorption spectra. Emission generally implies a high temperature and uncertainty Of the composition Of the radiator, due to dissociation; hence it is more advantageous to study a substance at a low temperature by means Of its absorption spectrum, since we then have a more definite knowledge Of its composition. This is especially true Of the highly complex compounds which are so abun dant in organic chemistry. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Investigations of Infra Red Spectra Vol 2

Download or read book Investigations of Infra Red Spectra Vol 2 written by William Weber Coblentz and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Investigations of Infra-Red Spectra, Vol. 2: Part III Infra-Red Transmission Spectra; Part IV Infra-Red Reflection Spectra The following research was undertaken to ascertain the cause Of absorption, and the connection between absorption and the structure of crystals. In this and in a previous research it has been shown that cer tain absorption bands in the infra-red are due to particular groups of atoms. The relation Of these results to the question Of the structure Of crystals will be Obvious to the reader. For, if the crystal is composed of molecules Of, say, water and calcium sulphate, which separately have characteristic absorption bands, then, if these molecules or certain groups of atoms in them undergo no physical change when they com bine to form a crystal (of selenite in this case), one would naturally infer that the absorption spectrum Of the product will be the composite of the absorption bands Of the two constituents. Book Infrared Spectral Interpretation

Download or read book Infrared Spectral Interpretation written by Brian C. Smith and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-12-10 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This author's second volume introduces basic principles of interpreting infrared spectral data, teaching its readers to make sense of the data coming from an infrared spectrometer. Contents include spectra and diagnostic bands for the more common functional groups as well as chapters on polyester spectra and interpretation aids. Discussions include: Science of infrared interpretation Light and molecular vibrations How and why molecules absorb infrared radiation Peak heights, intensities, and widths Hydrocarbons, carbonyl groups, and molecules with C-N bonds Polymers and inorganic molecules The use of atlases, library searching, spectral subtraction, and the Internet in augmenting interpretation Each chapter presents an introduction to the nomenclature and structure of a specific functional group and proceeds with the important diagnostic bands for each group. Infrared Spectral Interpretation serves both novices and experienced practitioners in this field. The author maintains a website and blog with supplemental material. His training course schedule is also available online.

Book Supplementary Investigations of Infra Red Spectra

Download or read book Supplementary Investigations of Infra Red Spectra written by William Weber Coblentz and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Supplementary Investigations of Infra-Red Spectra: Part V, Infra-Red Reflection Spectra; Part Vi, Infra-Red Transmission Spectra; Part VII, Infra-Red Emission Spectra The Spectrometer slits were mm., or about 2' of arc, as in the preceding work. The radiation from a Nernst heater was projected upon the reflecting surfaces by means of a mirror having a focal length of 15 cm. And an aperture Of 12 cm. The reflection spectrum was explored by means of a Rubens thermo pile. Although its sensitiveness was greater than the radiometer used previously, the unsteadiness at times, due to magnetic disturbances, neces sitated repeating the Observations at each spectrometer setting. When using the radiometer, it was rarely necessary to repeat the Observations in exploring the spectrum up to 9 or IO p, while in the present work, using a thermopile, the region beyond 9 I: was examined under the greatest difficulties, and in the case of the carbonates no attempt was made to locate the band at 1 p. When the reflection faces were less than the standard size, 2 by 3 cm. Which was frequently the case, the silver com parison mirror and the specimen were covered with diaphragms having equal openings, so that equal areas of the two surfaces were exposed.
