Book Effects of Environmental Factors on the Toxicity of Chloramine T to Fish

Download or read book Effects of Environmental Factors on the Toxicity of Chloramine T to Fish written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The toxicity of chloramine-T, a therapeutant used to treat bacterial gill disease in fish, was evaluated under a variety of physical and chemical conditions. Chloramine-T was more toxic in warm water than in cold water at exposures of 24 hour or less, but temperature had no significant effect on toxicity in 96-hour exposures. The chemical was slightly less toxic to rainbow trout in hard than in soft water, but water hardness had little influence on its toxicity to channel catfish. The pH was the most important factor affecting chloramine-T toxicity; the chemical about 6 times more toxic at pH 6.5 than at 9.5.

Book Fish and Fishery Products

Download or read book Fish and Fishery Products written by Barry Leonard and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guidance will assist processors of fish and fishery products in the development of their Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans. Processors of fish and fishery products will find info. that will help them identify hazards that are associated with their products, and help them formulate control strategies. It will help consumers understand commercial seafood safety in terms of hazards and their controls. It does not specifically address safe handling practices by consumers or by retail estab., although the concepts contained in this guidance are applicable to both. This guidance will serve as a tool to be used by fed. and state regulatory officials in the evaluation of HACCP plans for fish and fishery products. Illustrations. This is a print on demand report.

Book Field Manual for the Investigation of Fish Kills

Download or read book Field Manual for the Investigation of Fish Kills written by Fred P. Meyer and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fish kills are graphic evidence of serious problems in a lake or stream. If the kill is related to the presence of toxic chemicals, there may be human health concerns, in addition to the obvious damage to the ecosystem and the fisheries resources. Depending on the cause of a fish kill, legal and economic ramifications may be involved. If the kill is caused by human or corporate actions, litigation is likely to follow, with possible court-awarded damages and assessed costs for cleanup and restoration. This manual is intended to help fisheries biologists and others to prepare for a fish kill investigation.

Book Reef Fish Spawning Aggregations Biology Research and Management

Download or read book Reef Fish Spawning Aggregations Biology Research and Management written by Yvonne Sadovy de Mitcheson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-10 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reef fish spawning aggregations, ranging from small groups to many tens of thousands of individuals, are spectacular but poorly known natural phenomena whereby fish assemble at specific times and locations to spawn. For some species these large groups may be the only form of reproduction, the high fish numbers briefly giving a false impression of stability and abundance—an ‘illusion of plenty’. They are often a focus for intensive seasonal fishing because of their predictability and because many important commercial fishes form them. Highly vulnerable to overexploitation, many aggregations and their associated fisheries, have disappeared or are in decline. Few are effectively managed or incorporated into protected areas. Aggregations are not well understood by fishery scientists, managers and conservationists and their significance little appreciated by fishers or the wider public. To ensure their persistence to replenish important fisheries in coral ecosystems, maintain their ecosystem function and continue to delight divers, a significant change in perspective is needed to foster protection and management. This book provides comprehensive and practical coverage of the biology, study and management of reef fish aggregations, exploring their how, when, where, and why. It explores ways to better protect, study, manage and conserve them, while identifying key data gaps and questions. The text is extensively illustrated with many unique, never before published, photographs and graphics. Case studies on over 20 interesting and important fishes are included, outlining their biology and fisheries and highlighting major concerns and challenges.
