Book Analysis of Reaction and Transport Processes in Zinc Air Batteries

Download or read book Analysis of Reaction and Transport Processes in Zinc Air Batteries written by Daniel Schröder and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-22 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a novel combination of experimental and model-based investigations, elucidating the complex processes inside zinc air batteries. The work presented helps to answer which battery composition and which air-composition should be adjusted to maintain stable and efficient charge/discharge cycling. In detail, electrochemical investigations and X-ray transmission tomography are applied on button cell zinc air batteries and in-house set-ups. Moreover, model-based investigations of the battery anode and the impact of relative humidity, active operation, carbon dioxide and oxygen on zinc air battery operation are presented. The techniques used in this work complement each other well and yield an unprecedented understanding of zinc air batteries. The methods applied are adaptable and can potentially be applied to gain further understanding of other metal air batteries.

Book The Zinc Bromine Flow Battery

Download or read book The Zinc Bromine Flow Battery written by Gobinath Pillai Rajarathnam and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-11 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a detailed technical overview of short- and long-term materials and design challenges to zinc/bromine flow battery advancement, the need for energy storage in the electrical grid and how these may be met with the Zn/Br system. Practical interdisciplinary pathways forward are identified via cross-comparison and comprehensive review of significant findings from more than 300 published works, with clear in-depth explanations spanning initial RFB development to state-of-the-art research in related systems. Promising strategies described include the use of modern electrochemical techniques to study and optimize physical processes occurring within the system during operation, improving zinc electroplating quality during the charge phase through the strategic use of organic additives, as well as identifying suitable catalysts to optimize the bromine/bromide redox couple. The primary focus is on research and development of novel materials in the areas of electrolyte formulation and multifunctional “smart” electrode surfaces to achieve a higher degree of control over processes at the electrode–electrolyte interface. The strategies suggested in this book are also highly adaptable for use in other similar flow battery systems, while the unique cross-comparative approach makes it a useful reference and source of new ideas for both new and established researchers in the field of energy storage and battery technology.

Book Battery Zinc Electrode Kinetics Investigation

Download or read book Battery Zinc Electrode Kinetics Investigation written by T. P. Dirkse and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Batteries using a zinc anode and an alkaline electrolyte offer much promise in terms of desirable energy density factors. However, sometimes when the electrode is charged, the zinc often deposits in the form of dendrites which may form metallic bridges between plates and lead to internal shorting of the cell. In order to gain an understanding of the kinetics of this problem, the exchange current densities of the zinc electrode in KOH solutions were measured over a temperature range of -33 to +55C in 1 to 14 molar KOH. Galvanostatic, double impulse, and potentiostatic methods were used. A current inversion appears to be related to the concentration of unbound water in the electrolyte. This matter is discussed in connection with measurements made in solutions of controlled ionic strength.

Book Investigation of the Transport and Reaction Processes Occurring Within Silver Oxide zinc Batteries

Download or read book Investigation of the Transport and Reaction Processes Occurring Within Silver Oxide zinc Batteries written by Thedford Preston Dirkse and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decomposition of Ag2O dissolved in KOH solutions was studied; effects of temperature, light, KOH concentration, Ag2O concentration, and additives on this decomposition were measured. At least two mechanisms are involved but the precise nature of these mechanisms is still unknown. Overvoltages for anodic and cathodic zinc electrode processes were measured by different methods. The presence of additives in the electrolyte had little effect on these overvoltages but overvoltages were markedly affected by KOH concentration and temperature. Amalgamation improved performance of the Zn electrode but this effect decreased with decreasing temperature. Ag contamination adversely affected cathodic Zn electrode processes. It appears that the beneficial effects of additives to the electrolyte are related to the presence of carboxyl groups and that the beneficial effects of additives to the Zn electrode are related to their wetting ability. Book Zinc Electrode Kinetics Research

Download or read book Zinc Electrode Kinetics Research written by T. P. Dirkse and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time-to-passivation studies have been made on the zinc electrode in a range of KOH solutions. The time range was milliseconds and seconds. Attempts to interpret these results in terms of the rate at which the charge transfer product dissolves in the electrolyte encounter theoretical difficulties. Even at low times-to-passivation, the electrode process appears to be under diffusion control indicating that the rate of dissolution of the charge transfer product is not a limiting factor. Limiting diffusion currents have been measured in 1 to 13.4 M KOH and over a temperature range of -33 to 44C. The diffusion coefficients of the zinate ion have been measured polarographically in 1 to 10 M KOH and over a temperature range of -30 to 45C. (Author).

Book Advanced Redox Flow Technology

Download or read book Advanced Redox Flow Technology written by Inamuddin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-05-14 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ADVANCED REDOX FLOW TECHNOLOGY This book serves as a comprehensive guide to redox flow technologies, from their basic principles to their applications. As a result, this book provides a thorough review of craftsmanship in the subject, as well as the potential for future advances. As energy becomes a greater global concern, redox flow technology must be considered as a possibility. There is concern over energy shortages and rising air pollution, paving the way for renewable energies like solar and wind energy which have been extensively analyzed and evaluated in recent years. These renewable sources, on the other hand, are intermittent and frequently unpredictably available, resulting in low-quality output energy and a negative influence on grid stability. To date, diverse types of energy storage systems have been designed for various purposes, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks. In recent years, redox flow technology, particularly vanadium redox flow, has progressed substantially. Experiments at various scales have been successfully carried out, proving the viability of redox flow technology in bulk energy storage applications. In addition, innovative redox flow technologies that offer more energy storage per unit mass or a more cost-effective volume of the storage device have attracted a lot of interest. This book is intended to serve as a comprehensive guide to redox flow technologies, from their basic principles to their applications. As a result, this book provides a thorough review of the craftsmanship in the subject, as well as the potential for future advances. Advanced redox flow technology has sparked interest in bulk energy storage due to its flexibility in design, safety in operation, efficient energy storage, and near-zero environmental impact. The technology has been extensively developed and tested at a range of levels in recent years, demonstrating its applicability and usage.
