Book Advanced Experimental and Numerical Techniques for Cavitation Erosion Prediction

Download or read book Advanced Experimental and Numerical Techniques for Cavitation Erosion Prediction written by Ki-Han Kim and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the cavitation erosion phenomenon and state-of-the-art research in the field. It is divided into two parts. Part 1 consists of seven chapters, offering a wide range of computational and experimental approaches to cavitation erosion. It includes a general introduction to cavitation and cavitation erosion a detailed description of facilities and measurement techniques commonly used in cavitation erosion studies, an extensive presentation of various stages of cavitation damage (including incubation and mass loss) and insights into the contribution of computational methods to the analysis of both fluid and material behavior. The proposed approach is based on a detailed description of impact loads generated by collapsing cavitation bubbles and a physical analysis of the material response to these loads. Part 2 is devoted to a selection of nine papers presented at the International Workshop on Advanced Experimental and Numerical Techniques for Cavitation Erosion Prediction (Grenoble, France, 1-2 March 2011) representing the forefront of research on cavitation erosion. Innovative numerical and experimental investigations illustrate the most advanced breakthroughs in cavitation erosion research.

Download or read book Fundamentals of Cavitation written by Jean-Pierre Franc and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-22 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats cavitation, which is a unique phenomenon in the field of hyd- dynamics, although it can occur in any hydraulic machinery such as pumps, propellers, artificial hearts, and so forth. Cavitation is generated not only in water, but also in any kind of fluid, such as liquid hydrogen. The generation of cavitation can cause severe damage in hydraulic machinery. Therefore, the prevention of cavitation is an important concern for designers of hydraulic machinery. On the contrary, there is great potential to utilize cavitation in various important applications, such as environmental protection. There have been several books published on cavitation, including one by the same authors. This book differs from those previous ones, in that it is both more physical and more theoretical. Any theoretical explanation of the cavitation phenomenon is rather difficult, but the authors have succeeded in explaining it very well, and a reader can follow the equations easily. It is an advantage in reading this book to have some understanding of the physics of cavitation. Therefore, this book is not an introductory text, but a book for more advanced study. However, this does not mean that this book is too difficult for a beginner, because it explains the cavitation phenomenon using many figures. Therefore, even a beginner on cavitation can read and can understand what cavitation is. If the student studies through this book (with patience), he or she can become an expert on the physics of cavitation.

Book Scale Effect Investigation of Cavitation Erosion Using the Energy Parameter

Download or read book Scale Effect Investigation of Cavitation Erosion Using the Energy Parameter written by G. Sebestyén and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors define the energy parameter as the ratio of the volume loss of specimen material during erosion test to a certain fraction of the work done by the cavitation drag force. On the grounds of the analysis of the initial formula of the energy parameter as well as on the basis of experimental investigations, a method is suggested to allow for the influence of geometrical similarity (scale effects) upon cavitation damage when flow velocity or the characteristic dimension of the model and certain physical properties of the fluid, such as viscosity, surface tension, or density, are varied.

Book Cavitation and Supercavitation

Download or read book Cavitation and Supercavitation written by M. A. Zaher and published by . This book was released on 2015-10-09 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cavitation is the formation of voids or bubbles containing vapor and gas in an otherwise homogeneous fluid in regions where the pressure falls locally to that of the vapor pressure corresponding to ambient temperature. The regions of low pressure may be associated with either a high fluid velocity or vibration. Cavitation is an important factor in many areas of science, engineering, and occurs in many industrial processes. The book covers four general topic areas:1- The basic characteristics and physical mechanics of hydrodynamic cavitation,2- Cavitation damage from the viewpoint of both the hydrodynamic process and the reaction of particular materials.3- Cavitation study methods and equipment for research and performance testing.4- Cavitation effects in flow passages and hydraulic equipment and on fixed and free bodies. The book is intended as a combination of a reference book for those who work with cavitation, and as a monograph for advanced students interested in some of the basic problems associated with multi-phase flow. It is ideal for graduate students and research engineers and scientists.
