Book Low Frequency Waves and Irregularities in the Ionosphere

Download or read book Low Frequency Waves and Irregularities in the Ionosphere written by N. D'Angelo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-17 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last week of September 1968, ESRIN (the European Space Research Institute) held the ESRIN-ESLAB Symposium on 'Low-Frequency Waves and Irregularities in the Ionosphere' in Frascati, near Rome. The symposium was attended by about 60 participants, including speakers from most of the ESRO member states, the U.S.A., the U.S.S.R., and Peru. The main topics covered were: (a) observations of ionospheric irregularities by radar scattering, (b) scintillations of satellite signals, (c) geomagnetic micropulsations, and (d) whistlers. Both theoretical and observational aspects were treated. In addition, laboratory results on low-frequency waves in plasmas were discussed, emphasis being given to their possible relevance to low-frequency ionospheric phenomena. Finally, a brief presentation (not included in these proceedings) of the ESRO rocket and satellite program was given by Dr. Pedersen of ESLAB. The symposium provided an exchange of information among workers in closely related fields. It was also valuable in bringing together people whose experience is predominantly in ionospheric observations with others whose field of interest is mainly in plasma physics (theoretical or laboratory) - a combination that seemed particularly appropriate to ESRIN's program and functions.

Book Propagation of Radio Waves at Frequencies below 300 Kc s

Download or read book Propagation of Radio Waves at Frequencies below 300 Kc s written by W. T. Blackband and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Propagation of Radio Waves at Frequencies Below 300 KC/S covers the proceedings of the Seventh Meeting at the AGARD Ionospheric Research Committee, held in Munich, Germany on September 17-21, 1962. This book is organized into eight parts encompassing 32 chapters. The first parts deal with research studies concerning the electron density distribution and some properties of the lower ionosphere, as well as the effect of D-layer irregularities on radio wave propagation. The next parts explore the low frequency propagation in the lower ionosphere, the measurement of oblique incidence, and the statistical frequency spectrum of radio noise below 300 kc/s. The remaining chapters discuss the diurnal changes, the statistical prediction, the mode theory, and the propagation of very and extremely low frequency radio waves in the ionosphere. These chapters also examine the Earth resonance. This book will prove useful to astronomers, astrophysicists, and space scientists.

Book Wave Propagation in the Ionosphere

Download or read book Wave Propagation in the Ionosphere written by K. Rawer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author draws on his broad experience to describe both the theory and the applications of wave propagations. The contents are presented in four parts and the sequence of these parts reflect the development of ionospheric and propagational research in areas such as space research geophysics and communications. The first part of the book presents an outline of the theory of electromagnetic waves propagating in a cold electron plasma. For reference, vector analysis, dyadics and eigenvalues introduced in this part are presented in the appendices. Practical aspects of radio wave propagation are the subject of the second part. The typical conditions in different frequency ranges are discussed and the irregular features of the ionospheric structure such as sound and gravity waves are also considered. Warm plasma and the effects of ions are considered in the third part, which includes a discussion of sound-like waves in electron and ion plasmas. Nonlinear effects and instabilities are described in the fourth part.

Book Low Frequency Wave reflection Properties of the Equatorial Ionosphere

Download or read book Low Frequency Wave reflection Properties of the Equatorial Ionosphere written by John E. Rasmussen and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A joint United States - Brazil experiment was conducted near the geomagnetic equator to confirm the theoretically predicted strong dependence of the ionospheric reflection properties on the azimuthal direction of wave propagation. Skywave delays, reflection coefficients, and polarization ellipses were measured at different frequencies, ranges, and azimuths. The results were compared with full-wave computer calculations for several ionospheric models. A series of high resolution waveforms showing the sunrise transition from night- to daytime conditions is included.

Book Multifrequency Long Wave Vertical Sounding of the Lower Ionosphere

Download or read book Multifrequency Long Wave Vertical Sounding of the Lower Ionosphere written by Bodo W. Reinisch and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vertical pulse sounding at 30, 60, 180, and 520 kHz at Quabbin Reservoir, MA, USA, reveals diurnal and seasonal variations in structure, reflectivity, and height of the lower ionosphere. A solid state wideband amplifier feeds 10 kW peak power into a ground-laid six-element antenna. A special digital sampling and integration scheme selects median values of amplitude and phase received at perpendicular loop antennas. Day and nighttime D-region model profiles are fitted to the observed data by matching group height and reflection coefficient. Emphasis is placed on the nighttime residual E-layer observed at 100 km with an electron density, under undisturbed conditions, around 1000/cc. Long and short term variability of this layer is considerable. It is often semi-transparent as indicated by simultaneous E- and F-region echoes, suggesting the presence of a valley above the nighttime E-layer. (Author).
