Book Experimental Investigation of the Thermal hydraulics of Gas Jet Expansion in a Two dimensional Liquid Pool

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of the Thermal hydraulics of Gas Jet Expansion in a Two dimensional Liquid Pool written by Ray Alan Rothrock and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas jet blowdown in a two-dimensional liquid pool has been experimentally investigated. Two sets of experiments were performed: a set of hydrodynamic experiments, where a non-condensible gas is injected into a subcooled liquid pool; and a set of thermal-hydraulic experiments, where a non-condensible heated gas is injected into a near saturated liquid pool. Liquid entrainment by the gas, bubble growth characteristics, and the potential for vaporization, were investigated for a variety of experimental pressures (3 to 10 bars) and two liquid types (water and R-113). Liquid entrainment increased with increasing pressure. The fraction of the jet volume which is liquid is relatively the same for all pressures and decreases with time of expansion. A Taylor instability mechanism for entrainment is found to under predict the entrained volume. In the initial stages of the expansion, higher entrainment is experienced for more dense fluids. For the same fluid, the entrainment rate was slightly higher for the heated experiments compared to the unheated experiments. Both lateral and vertical growth rates increased with pressure. Vaporization may have occurred for the 4 bar initial pressure, 12 °C superheat condition in freon R-113.

Book Multiphase Flow Dynamics 3

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-phase flows are part of our natural environment such as tornadoes, typhoons, air and water pollution and volcanic activities as well as part of industrial technology such as power plants, combustion engines, propulsion systems, or chemical and biological industry. The industrial use of multi-phase systems requires analytical and numerical strategies for predicting their behavior. .In its fourth extended edition the successful monograph package “Multiphase Flow Daynmics” contains theory, methods and practical experience for describing complex transient multi-phase processes in arbitrary geometrical configurations, providing a systematic presentation of the theory and practice of numerical multi-phase fluid dynamics. In the present third volume methods for describing of the thermal interactions in multiphase dynamics are provided. In addition a large number of valuable experiments is collected and predicted using the methods introduced in this monograph. In this way the accuracy of the methods is revealed to the reader. This fourth edition includes various updates, extensions, improvements and corrections. "The literature in the field of multiphase flows is numerous. Therefore, it is very important to have a comprehensive and systematic overview including useful numerical methods. The volumes have the character of a handbook and accomplish this function excellently. The models are described in detail and a great number of comprehensive examples and some cases useful for testing numerical solutions are included. These two volumes are very useful for scientists and practicing engineers in the fields of technical thermodynamics, chemical engineering, fluid mechanics, and for mathematicians with interest in technical problems. Besides, they can give a good overview of the dynamically developing, complex field of knowledge to students. This monograph is highly recommended,” BERND PLATZER, ZAAM In the present third volume methods for describing of the thermal interactions in multiphase dynamics are provided. Book Advances in Fluid Dynamics with emphasis on Multiphase and Complex Flow

Download or read book Advances in Fluid Dynamics with emphasis on Multiphase and Complex Flow written by S. Hernández and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of fluid mechanics is vast and has numerous and diverse applications. Presented papers from the 11th International Conference on Advances in Fluid Dynamics with emphasis on Multiphase and Complex Flow are contained in this book and cover a wide range of topics, including basic formulations and their computer modelling as well as the relationship between experimental and analytical results. Innovation in fluid-structure approaches including emerging applications as energy harvesting systems, studies of turbulent flows at high Reynold number, or subsonic and hypersonic flows are also among the topics covered. The emphasis placed on multiphase flow in the included research works is due to the fact that fluid dynamics processes in nature are predominantly multi-phased, i.e. involving more than one phase of a component such as liquid, gas or plasma. The range of related problems of interest is vast: astrophysics, biology, geophysics, atmospheric processes, and a large variety of engineering applications. Multiphase fluid dynamics are generating a great deal of interest, leading to many notable advances in experimental, analytical, and numerical studies in this area. While progress is continuing in all three categories, advances in numerical solutions are likely the most conspicuous, owing to the continuing improvements in computer power and the software tools available to researchers. Progress in numerical methods has not only allowed for the solution of many practical problems but also helped to improve our understanding of the physics involved. Many unresolved issues are inherent in the very definition of multiphase flow, where it is necessary to consider coupled processes on multiple scales, as well as the interplay of a wide variety of relevant physical phenomena.

Book Fundamentals of Gas Particle Flow

Download or read book Fundamentals of Gas Particle Flow written by G Rudinger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Gas-Particle Flow is an edited, updated, and expanded version of a number of lectures presented on the “Gas-Solid Suspensions course organized by the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics. Materials presented in this book are mostly analytical in nature, but some experimental techniques are included. The book focuses on relaxation processes, including the viscous drag of single particles, drag in gas-particles flow, gas-particle heat transfer, equilibrium, and frozen flow. It also discusses the dynamics of single particles, such as particles in an arbitrary flow, in a rotating gas, in a Prandtl-Meyer expansion, and in an oscillating flow. The remaining chapters of the book deal with the thermodynamics of gas-particle mixtures, steady flow through ducts, pressure waves, gas-particle jets, boundary layer, and momentum transfer. The experimental techniques included in this book present the powder feeders, the instrumentation on particle flow rate, velocity, concentration and temperature, and the measurement of the particle drag coefficient in a shock tube.

Book Experimental and Theoretical Study on the Liquid and Gas Jets

Download or read book Experimental and Theoretical Study on the Liquid and Gas Jets written by Khaled Harby Mohammed and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-04 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is an introduction to the experiments and theoretical study of the horizontal gas jets and vertical plunging liquid jets that is great interest in environment and many industrial applications, especially in the safety system of nuclear power plants. The material of this book is appropriate for undergraduate students in nuclear, mechanical, environmental and hydraulic engineering. It will be assumed that the students have an introductory course in fluid mechanics and that they are familiar with the basic principles of fluid mechanics: continuity, momentum, and buoyancy principles. The book will first develop an introduction on the basic principles of jets and its different flow configurations. The methodology entails setting up and executing two different experiments on the horizontal gas jets and vertical plunging liquid jets and the structure of the book is divided into the following main parts; Part 1. Experimental study of the buoyant gas jets injected horizontally in water ambient. Part 2. Developing an integral model to predict the gas jet trajectories and the model validation. Part 3. Experimental study of the vertical plunging liquid jets on a free water surface.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 23 (thesis year 1978) a total of 10,148 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 220 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 23 reports these submitted in 1978, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
