Book Detonation of Condensed Explosives

Download or read book Detonation of Condensed Explosives written by Roger Cheret and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work marks a stage in the evolution of a scientific and technical field which has been developed by the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique (CEA) over several decades. Many members of the staff of the CEA have won re nown in this field, and their work has brought it to the high degree of excel lence for which it is internationally recognized today. These scientists had to consider every aspect of the field, as it concerned: modeling, which has recourse to fluid thermodynamics, molecular phys ics, and chemistry; numerical evaluation, which relies on mathematical analysis and data processing; and experiments in the firing area, which require specific stress generators and instrumentation. Whilst this book is a testament to the activity and success of staff of the CEA, it also reviews a number ofthe advances made in the discipline. How ever, it is not intended to be an exhaustive account of those advances; it is assumed that the reader can, if desired, consult the standard monographs, and more recent, more specialized works (notably W.C. Davis and W. Fickett, and C.L. Mader). The history of the discipline is interesting in itself, and also as an illustra tion of the causes which lead to progress in a coherent body of scientific work. I should like to make some comments on this progress, of which there is a fascinating summary in the introduction, and which will figure largely throughout the work.

Book Detonation Phenomena of Condensed Explosives

Download or read book Detonation Phenomena of Condensed Explosives written by Shiro Kubota and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-13 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents fundamental theory of shock and detonation waves as well as selected studies in detonation research in Japan, contributed by selected experts in safety research on explosives, development of industrial explosives, and application of explosives. It also reports detonation research in Japan featuring industrial explosives that include ammonium nitrate-based explosives and liquid explosives. Intended as a monographic-style book, it consistently uses technical terms and symbols and creates organic links between various detonation phenomena in application of explosives, fundamental theory of detonation waves, measurement methods, and individual studies. Among other features, the book presents a historical perspective of shock wave and detonation research in Japan, pedagogical materials for young researchers in detonation physics, and an introduction to works in Japan, including equations of state, which are worthy of attention but about which very little is known internationally. Further, the concise pedagogical chapters also characterize this book as a primer of detonation of condensed explosives and help readers start their own research.

Book Detonation of Condensed Explosives with Low Charge Densities

Download or read book Detonation of Condensed Explosives with Low Charge Densities written by L. N. STESIK and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made of the relationship of the rates of detonation to the density of the explosive, using nitrocellulose (13.3% N2). The diameters of the charges varied from 20 to 30 mm. The charge casings were made of cellophane. The detonation rates were measured by optical methods using a high-speed photorecorder (SFR). From three to four measurements were made for each value of charge density. The average error of measurement did not exceed 1 - 2%. The lowest charge density value amounted to 0.13 g./cc. This is sufficiently close to the density values at which the detonation products obey the equation of state for ideal gases.

Book A Theoretical Investigation of the Validity of the Classical Detonation Wave Structure for Condensed Explosives and the Effect of the Structure on the Experimental Observations

Download or read book A Theoretical Investigation of the Validity of the Classical Detonation Wave Structure for Condensed Explosives and the Effect of the Structure on the Experimental Observations written by Francis J. Petrone and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes an investigation made in order to determine the validity of the classical model for the detonation structure of condensed phase explosives in view of recent contradictory evidence, determine any effect of the complex wave interactions of the reflected shock and rarefaction waves within the reaction zone on the measured free surface velocities of the shocked metal, an effect which has previously been neglected, and remove the anomaly of the 'decay' zone. Book Detonation of Condensed Explosives with Low density Charges

Download or read book Detonation of Condensed Explosives with Low density Charges written by L. N. Stesik and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is of definite importance to measure the velocity of detonation of condensed explosives with a charge having a low density, where the products of the explosion are not governed by the equation of the state of ideal gases, but the elastic component of the pressure is small compared to the total pressure. To this zone correspond pressures resulting from a detonation of explosives whose density is less than 0.8 grams/cubic centimeter. In the majority of cases, however, the lower value of the density at which the detonation velocity of explosives is determined amounts to 0.5-0.6 grams/cubic centimeter. It is a fact that it is difficult to determine the detonation velocity of the majority of explosives at lower densities. In this work, the relationship between the detonation velocity and the density of explosives was investigated by using nitrocellulose (13.3% N2) which can provide charges of low density. Because the detonation velocity of nitrocellulose was not measured before, tests included a wide range of densities of the charge. (Author).

Book Experimental Validation of Detonation Shock Dynamics in Condensed Explosives

Download or read book Experimental Validation of Detonation Shock Dynamics in Condensed Explosives written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments on the HMX-based, condensed explosive PBX-9501 were carried out to validate a reduced asymptotically derived description of detonation shock dynamics (DSD). The experiments, coined passover experiments' have embedded disks of lead in right circular cylinders of PBX-9501. A range of dynamically changing states, with both divergent and convergent shock shapes are realized as a detonation front is created on one end of the cylinder and passes over the embedded disk of lead. The time-of-arrival of the detonation shock at the output end of the cylinder is recorded and compared against simulations using the DSD model. The experiment and DSD theory are found to be in excellent agreement and offer a high-fidelity, yet computationally efficient means for complex wave-front tracking in explosive systems.
