Book Investigation of the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Model Wing propeller Combination and of the Wing and Propeller Separately at Angles of Attack Up to 90

Download or read book Investigation of the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Model Wing propeller Combination and of the Wing and Propeller Separately at Angles of Attack Up to 90 written by John W. Draper and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of an investigation conducted in the Langley 300 mph 7- 10-foot wind tunnel for the purpose of determining the aerodynamic characteristics of a model wing-propeller combination, and of the wing and propeller separately at angles of attack up to 90 degrees. The tests covered thrust coefficients corresponding to free-stream velocities from zero forward speed to the normal range of cruising speeds. The results indicate that increasing the thrust coefficient increases the angle of attack for maximum lift and greatly diminishes the usual reduction in lift above the angle of attack for maximum lift.

Book Effect of Propeller Location and Flap Deflection on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Wing propeller Combination for Angles of Attack from 0 to 80 Degrees

Download or read book Effect of Propeller Location and Flap Deflection on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Wing propeller Combination for Angles of Attack from 0 to 80 Degrees written by William A. Newsom and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been made to determine the effect of propeller location and flap deflection on the lift, drag, and pitching-moment characteristics of a wing-propeller combination over an angle-of-attack range from 0 to 80 degrees. The model had four propellers, the slipstream from which covered practically the entire span of the wing. The wing had a 30-percent-chord slotted flap and an 8.5-percent-chord slat. Data were obtained for flap deflections of 0, 20, 40, and 60 degrees with the slat off and on. For one propeller position the power input to the model was measured and tuft studies of the flow on the wing were made. The data are analyzed to assess the feasibility, from consideration of stability and control, of a tilting-wing vertical-take-off-and-landing airplane with the wing pivoted behind the primary wing structure to provide a desirable structural configuration. The main object of the investigation was to determine whether advantage might be taken of the forward shift of the center of gravity of the airplane, as the wing is tilted from an angle of attack of 90 to 0 degrees, to minimize the change in trim pitching moment throughout the transition speed range for such a configuration. The results indicate that with proper propeller position and programming of flap deflection, it is possible to design a configuration of this type in which essentially no change in trim is required throughout the transition from hovering to normal unstalled forward flight.

Book Aerodynamic Characteristics of a General Tilt wing propeller Model Tested at Slow Speeds and High Angles of Attack

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of a General Tilt wing propeller Model Tested at Slow Speeds and High Angles of Attack written by Joseph James Traybar and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aerodynamic characteristics of a general tilt-wing/propeller model were investigated at the Princeton Dynamic Model Tract Facility. The experiments included test conditions corresponding to free-stream velocities from slow backward flight through hovering and transition. Wing incidence angles ranging from 30 degrees (forward flight) to 90 degrees (hovering flight) were investigated. The experimental data are presented in graphs of lift, horizontal force, and pitching moment versus thrust in coefficient form based on free-stream velocity. (Author).

Book Preliminary Investigation of the Characteristics of a Two dimensional Wing and Propeller with the Propeller Plane of Rotation in the Wing chord Plane

Download or read book Preliminary Investigation of the Characteristics of a Two dimensional Wing and Propeller with the Propeller Plane of Rotation in the Wing chord Plane written by David H. Hickey and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aerodynamic characteristics of a wing-propeller combination with the propeller rotating in the wing-chord plane of a two-dimensional wing were investigated. The wing had a 4-1/2-foot chord length. Total static lift was measured with and without the wing for a 3-foot-diameter propeller; the effects of a ground plane on the static lift of the wing-propeller combination were measured with a 2-foot-diameter propeller. Lift and pressure distributions at several angles of attack and free-stream airspeeds from 0 to 93 feet per second were obtained with the 3j-foot diameter wing-propeller combination.

Book Propeller Propulsion System Integration

Download or read book Propeller Propulsion System Integration written by S. J. Miley and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literature survey was performed to identify and review technical material applicable to the problem area of propeller propulsion system integration. The survey covered only aerodynamic interference aspects of the problem, and was restricted primarily to propeller effects on the airframe. The subject of airframe aerodynamic interference on the propeller was limited to the problem of vibration due to nonuniform inflow. The problem of airframe effects on propeller performance was not included. A total of 1121 references are given. The references are grouped into the subject areas of Aircraft Stability, Propulsive Efficiency, Aerodynamic Interference, Aerodynamic Interference-Propeller Vibration, and Miscellaneous.
