Download or read book Investigation of Spoiler Ailerons for Use as Speed Brakes Or Glide path Controls on Two NACA 65 series Wings Equipped with Full span Slotted Flaps written by Jack Fischel and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis indicates that this use of spoiler ailerons is feasible and desirable for normal emergency operatiion of airplanes. These speed brakes or glide-path controls would probably have small effect on wing pitching moments and should retain their rolling effectiveness.

Book excerpt: This report contains results and discussion of high-lift and lateral-control investigation of a thin low-drag semi-span wing variously equipped with a 25-percent-chord full-span slotted flap and a 38-percent-semispan 20-percent-chord sealed plain straight-sided aileron. Lift data obtained with a flap retracted and deflected; lift and lateral-control data obtained through a large angle-of-attack range and at Mach numbers up to 0.71.

Book Wind tunnel Investigation of a Spoiler slot Aileron on an NACA 23012 with a Full span Fowler Flap

Download or read book Wind tunnel Investigation of a Spoiler slot Aileron on an NACA 23012 with a Full span Fowler Flap written by Francis Melvin Rogallo and published by . This book was released on 1941 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The characteristics of the spoiler-slot aileron of the present investigation are essentially the same as those of the same device on the airfoil with a full-span NACA slotted flap as tested in the previous investigation. Up-rigging the ailerons, however, as the flap is deflected may be desirable. The test results indicate that the spoiler-slot aileron will provide acceptable lateral-control characteristics for airplanes with full-span Fowler flaps.

Book Lateral control Investigation of Flap type and Spoiler type Controls on a Wing with Quarter chord line Sweepback of 60 Degrees Aspect Ratio 2 Taper Ratio 0 6 and NACA 65A006 Airfoil Section

Download or read book Lateral control Investigation of Flap type and Spoiler type Controls on a Wing with Quarter chord line Sweepback of 60 Degrees Aspect Ratio 2 Taper Ratio 0 6 and NACA 65A006 Airfoil Section written by Alexander D. Hammond and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a part of an NACA research program, an investigation by the transonic-bump method through a Mach number range of 0.6 to 1.15 has been made in the Langley high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the lateral-control characteristics of a semispan wing-fuselage combination equipped with flap-type and spoiler-type controls.

Book Investigations of a Spoiler type Lateral Control System on a Wing with Full span Flaps in the Langley 19 foot Pressure Tunnel

Download or read book Investigations of a Spoiler type Lateral Control System on a Wing with Full span Flaps in the Langley 19 foot Pressure Tunnel written by Owen J. Deters and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests of a partial-span model of a large bomber-type airplane were conducted to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing equipped with full-span flaps and a retractable spoiler and aileron lateral control systems. The arrangement consisted of (1) a double slotted flap extending over approximately 86 percent of the wing semispan, (2) a 20-percent constant-percentage-chord aileron extending from the outboard endo of the flap of teh wing tip, and (3) a retractable spoiler, located at the 65-percent of the wing station and extending from approximately 63 percent of the wing semispan to the wing tip. In addition, tests were made of a wing vent (of 1 and 2 percent of the wing chord located directly behind the spoiler), perforations in the spoiler, a slot or cut-out along the lower edge of the spoiler, and spoilers of various spans.

Book Investigation at Low Speed of 45 Degrees and 60 Degrees Sweptback Tapered Low drag Wings Equipped with Various Types of Full span Trailing edge Flaps

Download or read book Investigation at Low Speed of 45 Degrees and 60 Degrees Sweptback Tapered Low drag Wings Equipped with Various Types of Full span Trailing edge Flaps written by John J. Harper and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made to determine the low-speed aerodynamic characteristics of two sweptback, low-drag, tapered wings equipped with full-span split and slotted flaps and three special types of trailing-edge flaps. Sweep angles of 45 degrees and 60 degrees measured at the quarter chord were used. The results showed no appreciable gain in maximum lift coefficients for either the split flap or the special flaps on the 60 degrees model but these same flaps did produce an increment in lift on the 45 degree model. The slotted flap produced the largest increase in lift on both models. The effect of the flaps on drag and pitching moment is the same as that indicated by other test data available. The slotted flap caused the largest increase in pitching moment for a given deflection angle. All flap configurations increased the stability of both wings.

Book An Additional Investigation of the High speed Lateral control Characteristics of Spoilers

Download or read book An Additional Investigation of the High speed Lateral control Characteristics of Spoilers written by Edmund V. Laitone and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The characteristics of partial-span spoilers located at 0.75 of the chord on an NACA 66-series tapered wing, particularly at high speeds, were investigated. The effect of small spoiler projections was found to increase in speed until the critical Mach number was exceeded. The data indicate that a spoiler having a small projection in front of an aileron provides a considerable increase in control, especially at high speeds. A spoiler projecting from the upper wing surface produced no adverse effects on the aileron. However, spoilers projecting from both upper and lower surfaces, which were investigated as a possible control for tailless airplanes, produced serious buffeting and reversal of the hinge moments of the aileron.
