Book Basic Principles of Fresnel Antenna Arrays

Download or read book Basic Principles of Fresnel Antenna Arrays written by Igor V. Minin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-05-31 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antennas represent a critical technology in any of these wireless systems. Not only do they directly affect the received power of the system, they are also typically the largest and most visible part. Recently, the need for low-cost, low-profile, and lightweight antenna in the frequency range of the microwave/millimeter wave/THz band has regained momentum. "Basic Principles of Fresnel Antenna Arrays" provides us a with the basics of the various Fresnel Antenna approaches, in order to achieve low-cost, low-profile, and lightweight antenna in the microwave/millimeter wave band. A potential solution of the antenna problem lies in using lens technology in an array. The Fresnel zone plate lens (FZPL) antenna is in particular an interesting candidate for the array element. The limiting focusing properties of FZPL including subwave length focus are described in detail. The book further presents a novel hexagonal FZPL antenna which can be more effectively packed in an array due to its shape. Before considering the hexagonal FZPL antenna in an array, the authors investigate two ideas, described as methods to potentially improve the radiation characteristics. The first idea is to change the reference phase of the Fresnel zone radii - a novel free parameter in the usual design of zone plate’s lenses and antennas. To further improve the radiation characteristics of the hexagonal FZPL antenna, a technique involving Fresnel zone rotation is investigated. The book is of interest for designers of optical systems because, taking scaling effects into account, the characteristics of diffractive quasioptical elements are valid for diffractive focusing elements of integrated optics.

Book A Full Electromagnetic Analysis of Fresnel Zone Plate Antennas and the Application to a Free space Focused beammeasurement System

Download or read book A Full Electromagnetic Analysis of Fresnel Zone Plate Antennas and the Application to a Free space Focused beammeasurement System written by David R. Reid and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this research, Fresnel zone plates were studied using an accurate, full-electromagnetic simulator based on the body-of-revolution finite-difference time-domain (BOR-FDTD) method. This tool was used to investigate zone plates for two different applications: zone plates used as antennas in communication systems and zone plates used as focusing elements in free-space, focused-beam measurement systems. Through detailed studies of zone plates for these applications, a number of general characteristics of the zone plate were given a more in-depth look than they have been given in the past.

Book New Variable for Fresnel Zone Plate Antennas

Download or read book New Variable for Fresnel Zone Plate Antennas written by G. W. Webb and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I present experimental results and analysis on the application of a new variable in the design of zone plate antennas. This variable is the choice of phase reference used in the definition of the Fresnel zones from which zone plates arc constructed. The standard zone plate construction assumes a specific choice for this reference phase which, however, can be chosen to have any value between 0 degrees and 360 degrees. When the reference phase is varied, antenna pattern measurements reveal small systematic changes in the main lobe gain accompanied by large improvements in the overall sidelobe level and position in both the E- and H-planes. Measurements also show that through variation of the reference phase, the phase of the main lobe can be varied controllably through 3600. I conclude that reference phase is a useful new tool available to the zone plate antenna designer.

Book Diffractional Optics of Millimetre Waves

Download or read book Diffractional Optics of Millimetre Waves written by I.V. Minin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-09-01 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffractional Optics of Millimetre Waves combines those elements of diffraction theory normally associated with optics, including Gaussian beams, lenses, and mirrors, and extends them into the micro- and millimetre wavelength range. In this regime there are a number of applications in devices, such as automobile proximity sensors, satellite-TV receiving antennae, and non-destructive testing systems. Researchers working in these areas would benefit from greater understanding of the diffraction phenomena involved. A translated and updated version of the authors' book Diffraction Quasioptics, this book will present results formerly unavailable in the general literature.

Book Characteristics of Phase Correcting Fresnel Zone Plates and Elliptical Waveguides

Download or read book Characteristics of Phase Correcting Fresnel Zone Plates and Elliptical Waveguides written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary area of activity has been concentrated on the investigations relating to Fresnel zone plate antennas. A secondary effort has dealt with the characteristics of propagation in waveguides of elliptical cross section. In both cases, applications at microwave and millimeter-wavelengths have been emphasized. Thorough literature searches were conducted, and the results are given in Appendices A and B. The zone plate work has dealt with both transmission and reflection types, and has included considering the off-axis-fed cases. In the latter case, the plate may consist of elliptical zones, rather than the usual circular configuration. In general, the characteristics studied include far-field patterns, focal region fields, off-axis performance, bandwidth, and aberrations. In the case of Propagation in elliptical waveguides, the attenuation and modal properties were studied for enclosed metal waveguides, coaxial transmission lines, and various surface waveguides. Contributions to these investigations were made by Dr.-Glenn Smith and Dr. Helen C. Wiltse and Messrs. C.A. Barrett, J.E. Garrett, T.H. Gfroerer, and K. Demino.
