Book Absorption of the Omega and Phi Mesons in Nuclei

Download or read book Absorption of the Omega and Phi Mesons in Nuclei written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to their long lifetimes, the $\omega$ and $\phi$ mesons are the ideal candidates for the study of possible modifications of the in-medium meson-nucleon interaction through their absorption inside the nucleus. During the E01-112 experiment at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, the mesons were photoproduced from $^{2}$H, C, Ti, Fe, and Pb targets. This paper reports the first measurement of the ratio of nuclear transparencies for the $e^{+}e^{-}$ channel. The ratios indicate larger in-medium widths compared with what have been reported in other reaction channels.

Book Medium Modification of the Light Vector Mesons in Nuclei

Download or read book Medium Modification of the Light Vector Mesons in Nuclei written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 45209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical calculations predict the modification of properties of vector mesons, such as a shift in their masses and/or broadening of their widths in dense nuclear matter. These effects can be related to partial restoration of chiral symmetry at high density or temperature. Photoproduction of vector mesons off nuclei were performed at Jefferson Lab using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). The data were taken with a beam of tagged photons with energies up to 4 GeV on various nuclear targets. The properties of the rho vector mesons were investigated via their rare leptonic decay to e+e?. This decay channel is preferred over hadronic modes in order to eliminate final state interactions in the nuclear matter. The combinatorial background in the mass spectrum was removed by a self-normalizing mixed-event technique. The rho meson mass distributions were extracted for each of the targets. Statistically significant results regarding medium modification of the rho meson in the nuc.

This book was released on 2013-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interplay of hadron properties and their modification in an ambient nuclear medium on the one hand and spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and its restoration on the other hand is investigated. QCD sum rules for various heavy-light pseudoscalar mesons embedded in cold nuclear matter are evaluated, the impact of order parameters is investigated and Weinberg type sum rules are derived. The consequences of a chirally symmetric scenario for the rho meson are investigated and the complementarity of mass shift and broadening is discussed. Additionally, the analytic structure of quark propagators in the complex plane is investigated numerically within Dyson-Schwinger equations. The applicability of Bethe-Salpter equations for heavy-light quark-antiquark bound states in the scalar and pseudo-scalar channels by variation of the momentum partitioning parameter is presented. The solutions of the Dyson-Schwinger equation in the Wigner-Weyl phase are used to investigate the hadron spectrum with explicit but without dynamical chiral symmetry breaking. An exhaustive introduction to chiral transformations within classical and quantum field theory and current-current correlators is given.

Book Medium Modifications of Light Vector Mesons in Nuclei

Download or read book Medium Modifications of Light Vector Mesons in Nuclei written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preliminary results on the photoproduction of light vector mesons in nuclei using the Cebaf Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Laboratory are presented. The?,?, and? mesons are clearly observed via their decay to e+e-. This decay channel reduces the effects of final state interactions in the nucleus. Of particular interest are the possible in-medium effects on the properties of the? meson. The? mass spectrum is extracted from the data on various nuclei, carbon, iron, and titanium, and compared to the spectrum from deuterium, which is relatively free of nuclear effects. No effects on the mass of the? meson are observed, however, there is some widening of the resonance in titanium and iron, which is consistent with expected collisional broadening.

Download or read book Plastic Scintillators written by Matthieu Hamel and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-10 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the physics and chemistry of plastic scintillators (fluorescent polymers) that are able to emit light when exposed to ionizing radiation, discussing their chemical modification in the early 1950s and 1960s, as well as the renewed upsurge in interest in the 21st century. The book presents contributions from various researchers on broad aspects of plastic scintillators, from physics, chemistry, materials science and applications, covering topics such as the chemical nature of the polymer and/or the fluorophores, modification of the photophysical properties (decay time, emission wavelength) and loading of additives to make the material more sensitive to, e.g., fast neutrons, thermal neutrons or gamma rays. It also describes the benefits of recent technological advances for plastic scintillators, such as nanomaterials and quantum dots, which allow features that were previously not achievable with regular organic molecules or organometallics.
